Trump widens lead over U.S. Republican presidential field at 32% : Reuters poll

Republican voters show no signs they are growing weary of the brash real estate mogul, who has dominated political headlines and the 17-strong Republican presidential field with his tough talk about immigration and insults directed at his political rivals. The candidates are vying to be nominated to represent their party in the November 2016 general election.

Nearly 32 percent of Republicans surveyed online said they backed Trump, up from 24 percent a week earlier, the opinion poll found. Trump had nearly double the support of his closest competitor, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, who got 16 percent. Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson was third at 8 percent.

Looks like that push amnesty strategy kinda faltered on Jeb. The backup plan of combining the three amigo GOPe candidates in support of Jeb, now cannot even beat Trump. Wow. Trump finally ended the Bush dynasty. And now he can end the Clinton dynasty. What the heck can he do for an encore ! Bring America back ?

Headline says Trump = 32%

and

Trump had nearly double the support of his closest competitor, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, who got 16 percent

Jeb = 16%

16 X 2 = 32

so where does the "nearly double" come from

I guess this is Common Core Math

Apparently Jeb is so petty, he had his PAC hire a plane to ride this banner: “Trump 4 higher taxes! Jeb For President!”

Because securing the border is going to raise your taxes folks, according to this clown.

Upon seeing the banner, hundreds of Trump supporters in attendance realized they had been dupes and ran for the exits just as bush strategists had predicted.

This poll was taken before Trump’s appearance in Alabama.
Expect to see a sharp rise in his numbers in other polls next week.

Those tickets were available to anyone who called in. It's not our problem if folks don't want to hear a message of putting US citizens to work and making the US great again.

It’s rounded, internals show 31.9 to 16.2. But I agree, they’re being picky...anything to try to hold Trump down.

Looks like the impact of his immigration plan is hitting his polling numbers. I figured that would get him to 35% alone...and he’s almost there.

I think you're on to something here, and the Trump phenomenon is still growing.

I've been a Cruz guy from the beginning, but this guy is winning me over because of the potential that's there to accomplish what you say in your post. Trump has broad appeal, to include some portions of staunch Dem constituencies.

I'm moving to Trump because of two developments. Trump went to Pete Sessions to help craft his very good immigration plan, and Trump has gone to Steve Forbes and Arthur Laffer, I understand, to help him with a tax proposal. These developments mean he has very good instincts as to who he would hire in his administration.

Also, I think there's a longing for the country to have a racial reconciliation, and for some reason, Donald Trump seems to have struck a nerve in the black community. Perhaps it's his stance on immigration somewhat, but it has to be more than that. He just connects with people without pandering to them as a group, maybe it's that simple.

Agreed, though it was Jeff, not Pete, Sessions that he went to. (And a good thing it was!)

I guess they’re being precise with the 31.9% and 16.2% results.

Here’s the data trend:

http://polling.reuters.com/#!response/TR130/type/smallest/filters/PARTY_ID_:2/dates/20150731-20150821/collapsed/false

Interesting that Bush has had a boost in the last few days too, while the others have fallen. Two possibilities: 1) as the time from the debate increases the two guys with the most name recognition gain. And/or 2) because Jeb reversed himself to sort of come out defending the ‘anchor baby’ term after Trump this week, that might have benefited him as well.

Saw earlier that a black pastor delivered the invocation and a black choir sang with other blacks in attendance.

That link is interesting. You can apply different filters to see different results.

For example, narrow it down to likely GOP primary voters (which, after all, is what counts) and Trump’s lead grows to 32%-13% over Bush, who is still in second—but just barely with Carson and Cruz following with 11.4% and 6.8%.
