(ZOT?) Don't Bash Kerry for Paying his Respects to Reagan
06/08/04 | xm177e2

Quite a few FReepers have attacked John Kerry for visiting Reagan's coffin and paying his respects to the man. I think this is wrong.

If he hadn't paid his respects, the same people would be throwing a fit.

John Kerry did not wait in line: Neither did other dignitaries (aka "important people who are not celebrities"). Neither did Arnold Schwarzenegger. Do you think George W. Bush should wait in line? Please. That's pathetic. John Kerry is, by virtue of being the presidential candidate for a major political party, more important than the rest of us. Just like George W. Bush was more important than the rest of us while he was running for president in 2000. Get over it.

Kerry gave a "thumbs up" in his limo: someone cheered for him, so he responded with a thumbs up. It's a pretty sedate response. Get over it.

Kerry bragged about opposing Reagan's policies in the past: Well, yeah. John Kerry is a left-wing Democrat and Former President Reagan was a right-wing Republican. We live in a democracy and people are allowed to disagree about this sort of thing. Whether or not Kerry was right to disagree with Reagan (I don't think he was), we should still begrudge Kerry the right to disagree.

I agree 110%! And by my screenname, you should guess I am no Kerry fan.

Oh please, Kerry wasn't paying his respects. Give us all a break. He was there for a photo op and if you don't know that already, then you need some help! If you think he hasn't done anything lately to merit what you deem a personal attack you haven't been listening. The King of personal attacks is John Kerry, yet you want no criticism of him? HUH!!!

Arnold had a reason to be there; Kerry didn't.

Kabar is right, and Kerry knew the mourners would not kick his A$$ in front of the SS,and at such a sacred site. He is a total dud compared to (fill in the blank)anyone has more charisma than this clueless idiot. He seems to lack any sense of decency.

John Kerry is...more important than the rest of us

Kerry, showing us he's more important by standing inside the ropes.

"I suppose there will be no photos of W delivering his eulogy either. As stated above, there is NO action that anyone who disagreed with Reagan's policies can safely follow at this point. As an RN, I see how awful Alzheimer's can be, and wouldnt wish it on anyone, not Reagan, not Bush, not anyone. So, lay off those of us who are paying respects in whatever way we can, but dont expect any monumental changes in our opinions of Reagan's presidential decisions. They are two different issues altogether."

HUH?

My opinions have nothing to do with Reagan's policies, or Alzheimer's, or Bush's eulogy. I am offering my opinions on my observations based on what relationship they have to TRUTH (which transcends politics).

Cheers, Deborah

Kerry was in a no-win situation.

How's that?

BTW, did you miss the nasty remarks Mr. Kerry made about Reagan up until he started running for POTUS?

Did you miss the nasty things he's said about Bush 43 this very day?

And even the AP doesn't agree with your characterization of his little visit:

SIMI VALLEY - John Kerry paused for a moment of silent reflection before the flag-draped casket of former President Reagan on Tuesday, a brief appearance in a national spotlight that suddenly has shifted from politics and the Democratic presidential candidate.

If he hadn't paid his respects, the same people would be throwing a fit.

That's not true. Kerry should have waited for the right time, in Washington. His appearance just makes him appear cheap and looking to use President Reagan's death for his own political purposes.

There was no respect paid. Showboating comes to mind.

That's an interesting profile page you've got there.

It's against the rules to have more than one screenname.

I have read it. As far as I can see, Kerry broke every rule except not having a backpack.
