I remember the Kennedy funeral procession well and I was amazed at the band music in today's procession. In 1963, it was only a muffled drum and today it was difficult to tell if even the drum was muffled. I will admit the muffled drum beat in 1963 made it somewhat more emotional. I love marching band music but did not appreciate it today and wondered why all the vehicles were in front of the caisson. Additionally, the riderless horse was photographed more in the Kennedy procession. I couldn't keep track of him today and at the end I could only hope that someone would take some water to all the horses.

Also, the flag on the casket in the Capitol Rotunda was not tied down for President Kennedy and Jacqueline and Caroline could reach under it and hold it. I would prefer to see it flowing free as opposed to tied down.

wonder why hume kept calling it a "state funeral"

The service in the Capitol was the state funeral. The service in the Cathedral will be the national funeral. That's what they were saying on MSNBC earlier.

"Above all we must realize
that no arsenal or weapon
in the arsenals of the world
is so formidable as the will
and moral courage of
free men and women.

It is the weapon our adversaries in today's world do not have.
It is a weapon that we as Americans do have.
Let that be understood
by those who practice terorism
and prey upon their neighbors."
President Ronald Reagan

Farewell, Commander in Chief.
You came to us in times of trouble.
And, you commanded the Ship of State
with strong and steadfast leadership.
Our oars moved with vigor and our dreams were yours
as we charged ahead and made America shine
brightly once again.
Today, sadly, you leave us
during a very critical and vital war
against terrorists who wish to see America destroyed.
Although, you can no longer talk to us.
Your brilliant vision. Your great legacy. Your vitality and wisdom
Will remain forever a guiding light of truth
and a bastion to which we can gain optimal strength as we
victoriously defeat our adversaries.

I've heard some say that now Heaven is Reagan Country.
But, America will always remain Reagan Country!
God Bless You, Mr. President, Sir.
No dream was too small for you to help us realize.

Who was the man (apparently in charge of the rotunda part) who told Brit Hume that there had been "intense pressure" to increase the number of speakers? To Hume's question about whether the number HAD been increased, he said the number had not changed. !!

the WWII generation is dying off - that generation understood much about the ideals of America. We are now faced with a generation from the 60s; and their children, educated by the liberal public schools and the culture provided by the mass media and MTV. Add the "entitlement generation" to that mix - I just don't see it.

You are entitled to your own opinion. I don't share it with regard to the class or lack of same as it pertains to Jackie Kennedy.

She was very sweet, but obviously pressed for time and preoccupied with her notes.

She said hi back, with a smile, and that was it.

She doesn't seem to have that adorable Cindy Brady lisp in person as she does on tv.

However, she's cuter in person.

I just walked in the door so I didn't see the procession. I am scanning the stations looking for a replay but CSpan just has a live shot from the rotunda.

My official schedule printed off the 'Net identifies tonight's service as the State Funeral.

Friday's service is the National Funeral.

That eulogy done by VP Cheney was one of the finest I have ever heard, and delivery and emotion was perfect.

Right on! I was listening on the bus on the way home, moving my walkman back and forth to avoid the static and trying not to cry in front of all those strangers. I guess a few of them thought I was nuts.

I'm not surprised, obviously a lot went into the entire event. I thought it went flawlessly.
