..."More than 100,000 people viewed the President lying in repose at his library..."

Me thinks the U.S. Capitol Police misunderestimated.

Of course it wasn't a Wellstone Funerally - They didn't have it in a sports arena with a Jumbotron and sell hot dogs! I think not having that in a church or some other dignified place set that up for disaster.

I agree. I had no problem with his speech. It paid tribute to the accomplishments of a great man, and IMHO wasn't "partisan" at all.

what's the significance of 21?

1+7+7+6=21 What I understood from my brother who was in the Honor Guard was it was for the year of our Independence 1776

Let's see what Snopes has to say.

I'm disheartened by the rudeness, arguing, and intemperate language used by many in this thread about the honoring of such a great man. I turned to this thread for comfort among fellow Reagan admirers, and find churlishness instead.

As far as the "Get it through your head" post, my printed schedule identified this as the State Funeral Ceremony.

This has been a memorable day and week, with more to come. I hope we can all exhibit the class toward each other in the days to come which was one of the hallmarks of President Reagan's life. President Reagan had strong views but presented them with grace, humor, and civility.

With sincere best wishes to all --

Forgive me, but I hope Levin wasn't feeling well.

Exactly, which is why I think smatterings of applause (not applause all the way, mind you) and shouts of support to Nancy are appropriate.

This is not an event of shock and national sorrow.

This is a time to exult that this man is now free from his pain! This is a time to rejoice at what he did with his life, to mourn his passing, but take time to not just mourn, but look at the good he did and do what we can to put the nation's arms around Mrs. Nancy Reagan.

If this was a somber occasion, it would be different.

During the funeral on Friday, obviously these things would be inappropriate.

Somewhere on Fr there was a schedule of the week's events posted, and it listed the two funerals, as you stated. Both ceremonies are funerals.

Speaking of Nancy: "It is her reaction that matters, not some xxxx xxxxxxx xxxxxxx on FR."

No matter what language is used I agree it is Nancy's understanding and opinion that counts.

I didn't really want to be that precise. ;O)

I would just point out that kleenex is to tissue and band-aid is to 'adhesive bandage' as chyron is to 'superimposition of electronic graphics on a television image.'

I was a married woman with children when I watched the Kennedy funeral so I am comparing as an adult.

Personally, Nancy Reagan appears more real than Mrs. Kennedy who appeared clearly scripted ala Hollywood.

Isn't the CA on Friday called a burial rather than a funeral?

we got lucky with Reagan - lucky to have him. He essentially served 3 terms, Bush 41 having served Reagan's third term essentially. The country elected Carter, then Clinton twice. And Gore, who was essentially running for Clinton's third term, won the popular vote while serving as the VP of an impeached President who had disgraced the office like no other.

you give the American sheeple too much credit.

To those complaining about music, please remember that the details of the funeral....including the music selections....were chosen by Nancy and Ronald.

Every president is required to submit plans for their funeral.

So, if you knock the music, you are knocking the wishes of the Gipper.

Forgive me, but your post is nasty. Levin WAS in a wheelchair.
