SAVE OUR BUTTS! (CNN SINKING)
New York Post ^ | 6/10/04 | TIM ARANGO

For nearly two years CNN has lagged Fox News in overall ratings — and the prime time hours of 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. are no exception. In the second quarter to date, Fox News is averaging almost 1.6 million viewers in prime time, compared with 857,000 for CNN, according to Nielsen Media Research.

What is amazing about those numbers is that CNN is on all cable providers basic packages. My friend just got his hooked up in his new place, guess what, no Fox only CNN, Fox is extra and it still wins.

What's with Atlanta, is it something in the water? My sister and her husband live there and they lean so far to the left, visits with them are uncomfortable.

Interesting trivia in your post, thanks for the info. Welcome to Free Republic.

I'm not married to fox. If one of those others would move to the same zip code as the truth, I'd watch them more.

So, the solution for our side would be for Sky News to compete big time with CNN internationally.

When we were in the BVI's I seem to remember they even had FOX.

Am I the only one who thinks that part of it is because CNN ABC NBC MSNBC and CBS split the same share of audience, while FOX captures a different one?

BINGO! Nailed it!

Maybe they could talk Connie Chung into saving them again.

I'm happy to see CNN tanking, but I wouldn't attribute their demise to an upsurge in conservatism. Fox offers the only moderate to conservative news programs on network TV or cable. Even though their numbers look good when compared to CNN, their share of the overall TV news market is small overall.

What is encouraging is that their ratings are equal to or bigger than CNN, PMSNBC, and CNBC combined.

Well, it's their funeral.

CNN is broadcasting their own funeral everyday 24/7.

So I am listening to Hannity yesterday and when the procession from the airport to the white house begins, he plays the audio from Andrews. So I take a minute to put on Err Amerika because Randi Rhodes is the closest thing to Lenin I will ever listen to.

She is talking about how Reagan killed this country and Ashcroft should be jailed.

At that moment I realized something. The opportunity to finally recognize Reagans legacy and Bush's place for changing American history is a mere five months away. If Bush wins this election, I will predict that in two years we will not only have our veto proof majority in the senate, but we will also have a 6-3 and possibly a 7-2 Supreme court.

We will then be able to go back to the days of Apple pie cooling in moms kitchen window, kids playing with sling shots, Davy and Goliath on Sunday mornings, families saying Amen at the dinner table while students pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.

The grand social experiment that failed this country over the last 45 years will finally be over, minorities will no longer be slaves to their own leadership, quotas will be tossed out, you have the freedom to choose, however you are responsible for that choice.

Criminals will be treated fairly and justice will be served swiftly, students will once again learn who the founding fathers are and what they meant to the building of this nation. Our nations history will start in 1776 and not 1976.

Yup, taking back our nation from the left is close at hand. We have to keep plugging and never let up.

Maybe it is because they are clueless as to what America wants to see.

Yesterday, when FOX and MSNBC where showing Reagan's caisson moving towards the Capital (and not a dry eye was found in this house). CNN was just giving regular chatter news...and nothing that interesting at that.

My jaw dropped. I couldn't believe they were THAT stupid.

Oh - and as for the laughable contention that Fox is 'fair and balanced' ... it is just as biased as CNN - merely from a different direction.

Fox seams to be right leaning because the others are so biased. Jobs jump 250,000 and MSNBC runs the line "Market falls on jobs numbers" while Fox runs " Jobs jump by 250,000 market slides on intrest rate hike fears". Both are correct but one is fair and balanced and the other is trying to missinform the viewer. CNN refuses to report Saddam abuses to keep its Baghdad office open.

No Fox may have a much larger conservative presence on its payroll compared to MSNBC and CNN, but considering this is a 50-50 country I would expect 50-50 representation in the newsroom.

Perhaps some one can add to this. Yesterday Rush Limbaugh said CNN is doing very well in ad revenues. That they get higher paying advertisements than does FOX. This is due to the leftist and feminist habits of the media buyers in the ad agencies. This is the story Rush tells. That ad agencies are willing to screw their customers and put them on CNN rather than FOX.

I agree 100%. The real opportunity lies in broadcast news. Whoever decides to take the FOX News strategy to the broadcast networks can achieve the sort of dominance in broadcast news that FOX has achieved on cable. Broadcast audiences are SIGNIFICANTLY larger: think of the profit potential! If the FOX Network would air a 30 minute version of Britt Hume's show at 6:30, they would rule the broadcast news market.

CNN is slanted as hell. I usually bounce around the three nets to avoid commercials but end up migrating back to Fox.

C-Span was best for the procession down Constitution Ave., as there was no commentary.

A side note: Did anybody catch Mario Cuomo on MSNBC damning Reagan with false praise and avoiding saying much nice about him except he was a "nice guy"? He said one truly terrible thing amongst his BS: He said that "Reagan made a lack of compassion 'acceptable' and that lasts until today."

I didn't make it back onto FReep yesterday after the ceremonies. So I didn't notice if there was a thread on the Cuomo comments.

I tuned into CNN to see how "Liberal" propaganda would cover President Reagan's funeral. I must say they were subdued. A few of their reporterettes (male and female) betrayed their bias, but for the most part they covered it rather well. I was pleasantly surprised.

The only real laugh came when some dizzy female reporterette asked why President Bush didn't leave the G8 summit to fly to Mrs. Reagan's side. When told that it was important for him to remain at the summit and that he would attend the funeral after the summit was over, she seemed to have had an epiphany.

"Liberals" covering the funeral are obviously stymied by the reaction of the American people. Some of them seem disturbed, some even frightened.

The last time I spent more than 2 minutes watching CNN was during Desert Storm; the main thing I remember about their coverage was that Bernard Shaw was hiding under the table in the hotel room, while the other guy stayed at the window reporting the war.

What a coward.

I was never able to stand watching him after that...
