John Kerry wrote his Review for "Apocalypse Now" on Oct 14, 1979 in the Boston Herald.
The key words in this scan are on page two--->
JOHN KERRY:
"On more than one occasion, I like Martin Sheen in "Apocalypse Now," took my patrol boat into Cambodia. In fact I remember spending Christmas Eve of 1968 five miles across the Cambodian border being shot at by our South Vietnamese allies who were drunk and celebrating Christmas. The absurdity of almost being killed by our own allies in a country in which President Nixon claimed there were no American troops was very real."

flip floppin' ping
John al-Qaery ping.
I pray to God that the American people are not taken in by his thinly veiled and even sophmoric lies and promises...that there are enough with some measure of virtue, integrity and honor left to put him down hard in the upcoming election.
I believe there will be.
How stupid can one be? Martin Sheen was never in Cambodia either. That was a movie DUMB A%#.
Coppola spent more time filming than John Forbes Kerry spent in Viet Nam
Down loaded and printed for copy and distribution - thanks for the great find!
Time to terminate Kerry's (crumbling) command...
BTTT!
LOL! It's more than one occassion now.
"As President, I will restore trust and credibility to the White House. "
- John Kerry, quoted from www.johnkerry.com, August 12, 2004
I have had to put up with statements such as apparently inventing the Internet (Gore), personally being at some disaster in Texas (Gore), watching churches burn in Arkanas (Bubba) and now taking trips into Cambodia with a fair size boat when there were big concrete blocks and other things blocking the path of the boat in the river ....
Will it ever stop?
I know that I'm a dumb Conservative and all but if I'm not mistaken LBJ was still President in December 1968 not Nixon.
The Cambodia lie was deliberately done, to enhance his cachet as someone in the know about the war, and to associate himself with the movie (thanks to P-JComix for making the connection.)
What a target-rich paragraph! He went there more than once and refused to acknowledge Johnson's war. Did the SV really celebrate Christmas like that? Just curious.
Bump!

It's a great scan and tangible proof of Kerry's nuttiness. If you print it out can you get the words in the scan to come out clearly enough to read?
dennisw has a photocopy of the whole movie review! Download and distribute!
Oh that's MUCH eaiser to read..THANKS!
ping
Just out of curiosity... Why would Vietnamese be celebrating Christmas when most of them are buddhists, taoists, confucionists and caodists? There were catholics but not many as Catholicism didn't really start there until the 1960s . Something doesn't sound right here? I've gotten my material from:
http://www.askasia.org/frclasrm/readings/r000058.htm
Can anyone help me out here?
Sooo...were there ARVN infantry on the boat WITH him, or...?
Apocalypse Now was never intended to be a realistic portrayal of Vietnam. It was a 1970s-vintage spin-off of the Joseph Conrad novel Heart of Darkness, set in Vietnam instead of on the Congo River in Africa.
If you read Conrad's novel, you'll understand why an "accurate" portrayal of the Vietnam War would have made the movie utterly meaningless.
Outstanding post!
Thanks.
You are 100% right. Nixon wasn't inaugurated until January of 1969. Johnson was still president on Christmas in 1968.
I was pointing this out last night - Apparently Nixon gave orders to spec-ops military units while still President-elect.
He was elected in November 1968, and took office in Jan. 1969.
But why let facts get in the way of a good Republican-bashing?

Dude, excellent find. Great research job!!
Absolutely correct ... Nixon was sworn in in January of 1969
In short, Copolla's vision wasn't Kerry's vision, therefore it was a failure. But Copolla's mission in the film was not to polemicize and propagandize, but to entertain.
And who the hell pluralizes the word "shrimp" with an "s"?! Did he wash them down with beers?
Doesn't this guy have enough to do with paying his bills, showing up for work in the senate, raising his kids, counting Teresa's money, moving fire hydrants, sleeping in his car, and blaming security for his lack of physical coordination, than to spend so much time making lies. Supporting lies is tremendous work. It's a full time job even for those who are stealthy and have a cast iron memory.
Catholicism was in Viet-Nam longtime and thru out the country.
It can with the French.
You are not mistaken. But for the Liberals, it was Nixon's war in 1963.
Useful--bumpmark. Someone's been spending some time with a microfiche?
Since these are your pictures, I must ask, may I post this on www.Christian-news-om-maine.com ? I will include a link back to this post.
The more of this story that comes out, the more it appears that Kerry is either a bigger fabricator of lies than Bill Clinton or Kerry is psychologically delusional and suffers from visions of perceived grandeur. Either one makes him appear unstable and dangerous as a Commander in Chief.
Barf!
OK as far as I can tell.
Seems to me it would be easy for his "Band of Brothers" to corroberate that they were in Cambodia. Or did he take his boat in there all by himself?
Why doesn't his campaign arrange a press conference for BoB to tell all about their adventures in Cambodia?
Wow .. he really didn't like that movie huh?
I suppose Kerry thinks he could have written a better story
I copied and sent this out to my email newslist. Thanks!
BINGO!
I think there may be more Catholics than you think. The President who was assassinated (Tuc) was Catholic.
Catholics, however, do not celebrate on Christmas Eve by firing weapons into the air.
In 1965 there were reportedly 1,559,077 Catholics in the South, 1771 priests of whom 1,376 were Vietnamese, 4,826 nuns the majority of whom were Vietnamese.
Kerry's made-up story reminds me of the case of the college football coach who embellished his resume and subsequently was fired by Notre Dame before he even coached a single game for them.
The Kerry Campaign has now admitted that this was a fabrication. This is far from a slip of the tongue this is a well thought out written attack on a President and country that not only impugned them, but the Ex-Government of South Vietnam. This soon became the basic prejudice of the history of the Vietnam War. The damage by this statement and further statements shamed an entire generation of men who gave their heroic service to their country and turned it to humiliation.
John Kerry came back from the war a decorated hero and soon parlayed that into the most decorated witness of war crime atrocities committed by the United States and South Vietnam. Nobody would question his truthfulness because he had chest full of medals and had no motivation to lie. Anybody who questioned him was quickly painted as a war criminal and a tool of the military. He was quickly annointed as the only moral person in an immoral war and this is exactly why this lie is so sickening.
We have now found and John Kerry has admitted that he was never in Cambodia on Christmas Eve or any other time. He never violated Cambodias sovereignty and neither did the South Vietnamese Army. Forget that President Nixon was not in office in 1968, but he never ordered any American Troops into Cambodia. President Nixon was telling the truth and John Kerry, decorated war hero was lying. President Nixon had to surrender to the North Vietnamese in shame and went to his grave a war criminal because of these lies. President Nixon we find four decades later, was telling the Truth.
His testimony and this story was the foundation of the Vietnam scar on Americas military. The stories of torturing prisoners and villagers became the visual of Viet Nam. The indiscriminate incursions into Cambodia and Laos was common knowledge. Because of these stories the soldiers came back from Nam to be spit on by American public. Now we find out these stories were all the fantasy of a young John Kerry who managed to keep his fabrications in the Americas consciousness. Vietnam became the club that hammered our military, over and over again. All of this was built off of the Cambodia lie and his false testimony in Congress.
John Kerry was still telling these lies as of last year when he showed off a hat he brought back from this Cambodia incursion. This he claimed was his lucky hat, given to him by a CIA agent?? What kind of dementia is this man suffering from? Did he actually believe any of his lies or did he enjoy being Mr Macho who steered his boat into another country during combat? Did he enjoy being Blood and Guts Kerry or was there something more sinister??
Because of this lie both Presidents Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon became the pyrias of American politics. Both went to their graves as accused war criminals, violating the sovereignty of innocent countries. As we find out that they were the innocent victims of a smear campaign led by John Kerry. John Kerry painted himself as the only moral person in an immoral war. As we find out the military was indeed fighting this war morally and the only immoral person in this story was John Kerry. Because of this lie two Presidents were made war criminals and an entire generation of soldiers were spit upon. What can John Kerry offer to repair his damage he has done to America?? The very least he can do is finally come clean, apologize for his atrocious lies and resign from the race!
Pray for W and Our Troops
