WASHINGTON (AFP) - The top Democratic Party official accused US President George W. Bush of lying to the American people about his National Guard service during the Vietnam War, even though CBS News said it had erred in using dubious documents about the matter.
"The American people already know that strings were pulled to get President Bush into the Guard; and while in the Guard he missed months of service and was grounded," Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe said in a statement.
"We know that George Bush was a fortunate son, a child of privilege, who refuses to admit that he used his connections to avoid fulfilling his requirements," he continued. "But what we still don't know is why Bush didn't fulfill his duty to his country or why he has continued to lie to the American people about it."
CBS News apologized Monday for airing documents alleging that Bush's family connections had secured his assignment to a National Guard unit during the Vietnam War -- a posting that effectively spared him active duty in Vietnam.
"Based on what we now know, CBS News cannot prove that the documents are authentic, which is the only acceptable journalistic standard to justify using them in the report," CBS News President Andrew Heyward said in a statement.
Well, sure he must have lied. All those phoney documents said so. (/sarcasm)
Fortunate Son? Fortunate Husband?
Kerry was both.
So was Bush, but in an entirely different, and far more loving way.
"But what we still don't know is why Bush didn't fulfill his duty to his country or why he has continued to lie to the American people about it."You mean about not showing up for his physical?
Come to think of it, I'm not sure I showed up for mine either. What'll I do?
Should I lie and say I took it? Oh, I didn't realize it was this important.
Gee, what a surprise . . . . Dems refusing to acknowledge that they lost . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . AGAIN!!!!!!!
It's pining.
Pining for the fjords...
It won't stop. The DNC apparatchiks are substance-less public relations-like wonks. In the absence of substance they obsess about Bush, the person. Remember 2002? McAuliffe publicly admitted he wanted to get at Bush by going after Jeb. Spent huge bucks on that one campaign, when there were complaints "zogby polls" happened to pop up show the Florida governor's race to be close. To save pace those "polls" showed a last week surge for Jeb - there was no real surge.
Looking like 2004 is a replay of 2002.
Byron York was on with Brit to go over the President's service. He has done a lot of research on this.
The thing that cracks me up the most about all this is that not only are the Democrats digging themselves into a hole... they're digging themselves into a hole over something no one even cares about.
Comes home, aids and abets the enemy, marrie rich once, marries rich twice, throws his medals away, gets elected to the Senate in the Peoples Republik of Mass., stands for absolutely nothing, and gets an complete free pass from the helping MSM.
John Kerry is the Opportunistic Son.
< crickets >
PLEASE continue to make this the central issue of your campaign. You only have 42 more days to make your case to the American people that Bush missed a doctor's appointment in 1973.
From now on, all sentences out of your mouth should be in this form:
"I'm as sure of..." (whatever you were going to talk about) "...as I'm sure that Bush was AWOL in the Air National Guard."
I'm telling you, Dems. THIS IS YOUR WINNING ISSUE! You only need to say it more forcefully and more loudly, because the media isn't getting your message out. Keep it up and you will win the Presidency, the House and the Senate for the remainder of the century.
I'm as sure of that as I'm sure that Bush was AWOL in the Air National Guard.

Here, here!
A toast!
To seeing DanRat Blather toasted!
that would be very sweet, indeed.
LVM
Have been thinking of sending a shovel to the DNC. Maybe that will help them dig this hole deeper.
The Kerry campaign is a disaster. If the Clinton people were serious about helping him they would of got off the Vietnam/National Guard fiasco weeks ago. No, they still bring it up and it keeps blowing up in their faces. It's only going to get uglier when Bush is reelected because the Dems are going to try to impeach him.
Kerry is a Fornuate Husband...LOL!
