When the bogus exit polls began coming in on Tuesday, they were a jarring shock to everyone following the presidential campaign on all sides. Returning from Texas to the White House, administration officials on Air Force One reportedly became sickened at the prospect of a vast landslide against President Bush. The president, however, was quoted as saying upon learning this news: "It is what it is."

I wish I could've been as calm as W on election day. I completely flipped out when I saw those exit polls. I'm an anxious person by nature, and those polls were the worst thing at the worst time for me. I was so upset that Kerry was about to be elected that at dinner I could barely swallow. But soon after that the tide turned, the real results came in, and the rest is history. But man what an emotionally exhausting day last Tuesday/Wednesday morning was!
I'd like to add my kudos for the way the Admin Moderators clamped down on the fake poll threads that kept popping up on Election Day. They helped us find the *real* news by eliminating the bogus (i.e., numbers from Wonkette) and in so doing also kept out spirits up. They had to move fast on Election Day and did a great job.
I believe that it was important for the Democrats to get a good report from the exit polls early, so as to influence later voters.
I just don't know how they did it.
The people coming off the Eastern polls early were mostly non-working women, who went for Kerry 55% nationally, 60% east coast.
The men, voting later, swung the picture back into reality.
I just don't understand how such hate is directed at this man. He is a remarkable human being. Maybe it is because he is 'his own man' -- no one owns him.. The MSM have stresses negatives that aren't there, and the kool-aid crowd swallows it.
So many words have been used to describe our President, resolve is one that comes to mind. Faithful is another. Loyalty, which by the way I think he gets very little credit for. Most politicians start throwing people off the boat as soon as the water gets rough. Bush has stood by his people in tough times. This is just another example of a real man and a true leader.
W is grounded in faith. He knows the Lord is always with him. No matter what. Kerry on the other hand is grounded in.......well......Kerry, and thats a lot of nothing to be grounded with.
Another election worker and I stood in the corner and prayed. Isn't this a great country? You can pray inside a polling place! (no voters there at the time)
When I got home, everything was turning our way. I'm SO thankful.
I remembered watching TV when Pres. Bush returned from Columbus, OH to the White House on election day. As he and the First Lady walked forward, the White House staffs were lined outside the lawn. Many staffers were in tears as they gave the President and Mrs. Bush hugs, precisely because the early exit polls were not good. The heartfelt emotion, love, and loyalty that the White House staffs had for our President and the First Lady gave glimpse into what kind, gentle, considerate, and caring people they are. You can tell a heck of a lot about a person by observing the people around them, especially the "little people" (Not to belittle the duties/job of the White House Staff, of course). The White House staff absolutely love this man and his wife. That speak volumes in my book! I don't remember seeing the White House staff ever that emotional about Bill and Hildebeast.
Only because they belived they had manufactured enough "votes" for Kerry, they thought they were covered. One thing they didn't count on....NRA turnout, Viet Vet turnout, Christian turnout.
This is a man worthy of our respect.
Such humility.
I have to disagree with all this admiration for
Bush's passive reaction. Given how the Democratic
party has disgraced itself, given its extremism,
given the vile campaign that was waged against
Bush and his supporters, I would have expected
something more passionate than "it is what it is."
I want my leader to WANT to win. He also should
have had the elementary sense to question the exit
polls. It was Karl Rove who had to rally the
president's men. It should have been the president
himself.
Does anyone know whether the exit-poll reports
reduced Republican turnout or grassroots efforts?
It seems like an obvious question, and I have yet
to see any attempt to ask it, let alone answer it.
I didn't- thought it was going to be a landslide victory, as did most of the people on FR, judging by the way they voted on the FR poll.
Though on election day there were chicken-littles everywhere... who hadn't learned a thing about the media, not even after Sept 11, the Wilson/Plame/Nigerflap, or even the CBS forgeries, and were ready to suck up every myth the media was spewing them from the exit polls like a bunch of Hoovers and Orecks.
It was not a "passive" answer. It was an answer of peace. An answer based in his faith in God and of his place in history.
It was the answer of a true man and a true Christian.
President Bush did want to win but by the time he heard about the exit polls the campaign was over. How did you expect him to react to this considering he was surrounded by his enemy - the press.
It was a passive answer. It was the kind of passivity
that got Bush into a hole in the first place. Sugar-coat
it all you want, Bush had an obligation to rally his aides, and he didn't do it.
The answer is blindingly obvious: "Let's wait for the
voters to speak. Don't believe the exit polls."
Or is that too aggressive for you?
There was an article in U.S. News & World Report this week about Rove seeing these exit polls and mad - 'cuz he knew they were wrong. Talked about how he knew down to the precinct level in the battleground states what the votes would look like based on their polling data.
They set up a little command center in the WH dining roomand starting making calls and emails to their contacts out in the "world".
Remember all the threads about "my high level source at the White House says don't believe the polls - get out AND VOTE!"?
Well, Rove's work and the internet and FreeRepublic and all the other conservative sites made it happen.
God bless President Bush.
I was at work when the early polls came out and I grew extremely depressed. Then I heard some of the liberals in my office laughing and whooping it up I thought it was over. Then I thought - it's not over yet and when I got home from work I fell on my knees and prayed to God for a miracle.
Then I came on the internet and starting reading the real poll results and my mood drastically changed.
I honestly believe people all over the country were praying for W and that is what helped turn things around.
