Mexican president announces initiative for North American cooperation
Fort Worth Star-Telegram/AP ^ | March 16, 2005 | John Rice

Posted on 03/16/2005 1:45:46 PM PST by La Enchiladita

MEXICO CITY - The leaders of the United States, Mexico and Canada, confronting the growth of rival groups in Europe and Asia, hope to strengthen their free-trade pact by signing an "Initiative for North America" next week in Texas, Mexico President Vicente Fox said Wednesday.

But Fox made clear that tensions remain over how to secure the countries' borders, criticizing new U.S. walls running along parts of its 2,000-mile frontier with Mexico. "No country that is proud of itself should build walls," he said.

Fox, President Bush and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin are scheduled to meet March 23 at Bush's Crawford, Texas, ranch during Bush's Easter vacation.

. . . .

Speaking at a news conference with U.S. and Canadian reporters, Fox vowed to take legal action against migrant-hunting vigilantes in Arizona and promised to fight terrorism.

. . .

But in both Spanish and English, Fox repeatedly expressed concern about state initiatives to limit rights of migrants and services for them in the United States, and about the U.S. government's effort to slow migration by building walls.

"We are convinced that walls don't work. They should be torn down," Fox said. He called the walls "discriminatory; they attack liberty. So no country that is proud of itself should build walls. Nobody can isolate himself these days."

. . .

He said Mexicans "totally reject" the migrant hunters recently formed in Arizona to help stem the illegal crossings there, which have risen partly because of the construction of walls elsewhere. The vigilantes "are completely in violation of American law itself and in violation of laws anywhere," Fox said.

He said Mexico "will be very alert to react legally against any lawbreaking" by those groups, either under U.S. or international law.

Yeah, but the Prez at the time changed his mind and wanted the whole thing. We should have done it then.

Yes, that is true -- and not very well known. When the Army had Mexico City under occupation, lots of members of Congress (mostly southern) wanted us to annex the whole thing. Had someone else been in office rather than President Polk, it might have turned out differently.

Since Pres. Fox wants us to open the border to let anyone that wants in to come on in. Well lets make that a two way street with Americans premitted to go to Mexico, buy and hold property, buy and open business and receive free education, medical, etc supplied by the government (people) of Mexico. I would love to own some beach front property south of the border.

From what I read in Gone for Soldiers, Polk changed his mind and wanted all of Mexico, but the head of the US delegation ignored his requests, such as communication was back then.

Then again, that is just an historical novel, but I don't Shaara would have made that point up.

I have pushed it here many times, and I am sure that some of the mods have considered giving me a time out or banning me completely. If I said what I truly think about Vincente Fox and his bullshit statements in this article, I would be banned for sure. So I will tone it down and say this:

Vincente Fox is the perfect a$$hole to be leading his corrupt, $4177y little country. This arrogant prick has absolutely NO RIGHT to tell us how we should police our borders or who we should allow into our country. He sees no irony in making his country's largest industry the export of its peoples illegally into a neighboring country and having trhe taxpayers of that country foot the bill for his failures. The worst thing about the United States is that we share a border with the cesspool of corruption and lawlessness that is Mexico.

"No country that is proud of itself should build walls." Sez Fox. In that case,Vicente, perhaps your Mexico, with not one d*mn thing to be proud of, should be building the wall to keep it's citizens from fleeing, as East Germany once did.

Sure thing. Wonder if I can collect social security and whatever Mexico has if anything while watching the sunsets on a nice beach. You know, Fox just may be onto something here...sure open the border but it must be two way traffic with rights guaranteed. Knew the Spanish classes I have been taking would come in handy. Oh not to worry, we can force Mexico to print everything and supply all services in English. Yup think Fox may be onto something here.

You have made a significant point.

The FBI-DOJ Uniform Crime Report never seems to "report" any crime/violent crime statistics in San Juan, Puerto Rico or other cities in PR.

Much higher violent crime rates than even our worst urban cities here in the states.

DC, Chicago, New Orleans, South Central LA, Gary, Detroit, Houston, St/ Louis, Philadelphia and many other large urban cities (many have gun-bans or "elitist-leftist only FA permits") have murder rates and other violent crime rates about 25+ times the crime rate of the rest of the USA.

Somehow the democrats in these urban high-minority cities have decided to mandate that blacks (still after 150+ years) under their thumbs? are still on the plantation and that the US Constitution's 2nd Ammendment does not apply to the honest ancestors of American black slaves (or hispanics, whites, Asians, native American Indians, ....) very strange as many of the large urban cities now have black Mayors (with armed bodyguards do ya think?) and a majority black City Council and a majority of black Judges.

I have asked the FBI, NRA, DOJ, my 2 US Senators and my RINO US Rep why Puerto Rico (and some other high-crime cities) cannot manage to give the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Department of Justice "fairly accurate" totals of various types of crimes, "alleged perpetrators" (see how PC I can be?), victims, racial/ethnic breakdowns (the FBI-DOJ annual Uniform Crime Report does not list those of hispanic ancestry in a separate category/column - only "white", "black", "Asian", and "other"?) [why I wonder???]

But I digress - Puerto Rico has an astronomical crime rate - don't report/publish it and nobody will know?

In Puerto Rico they have used Puerto Rico's National Guard to surround and search large urban public housing complexes (much like Bill Clinton once had Chicago's public housing units searched and "tossed" - as they were federally subsidized - talk about "abuse of Civil Liberties"!)

Citizens in Puerto Rico also get a "unique" income tax break and mega perks and subsidies paid for by the citizens of the 50 US states taxes.

No wonder they did not/do not scream/vote for Independence or Statehood!

They can catch a jet, move to the states and vote in NYC and also in still in PR.

Annexing Mexico would be like Puerto Rico times a trillion headaches/criminals.

Mexico and many other foreign nations are so corrupted that any who come here (esp. illegal aliens ) bring with them the deadly poisons and cultures they grew up in an participated in.

See Thomas Jefferson on this little un-PC goodie.....

A parting thought - Mexico bans their citizens from owning most firearms (dangerous Washington DC is 100% gun-banned over 27 years!) - yet has incredibly high violent crime rates and totals - many, oddly with those same banned firearms!

Sarah Brady - You are badly needed in Mexico City and San Juan! - Jets are leaving every half hour - Don't forget to drag Jim along so you get your much larger "Speaker's Bureau" $25,000 a night banquet-speech fee!
