ITHACA NY--Many colleges throughout the country are cutting back their black studies programs, but not at Cornell University. The University dedicated a new five-thousand-square-foot addition to its Africana Studies and Research Center Friday.

The center was established in 1969, months after armed black students took over a campus building. As part of the dedication, Cornell University hosted a daylong conference observing the 50th anniversary of the civil rights case "Brown versus the Board of Education."

The expansion comes at a time when many universities are struggling to attract students to black studies programs. The Chronicle of Higher Education says many schools are now incorporating African Studies with other departments like history and English

Figures.

The center was established in 1969, months after armed black students took over a campus building.

Yes, folks, you heard right. This building is a monument to an act of domestic terrorism.

Ithaca is the City of Evil.

Stupid, evil, wasteful, counter-productive.

A perfect addition to the City of Evil.

Last year, Bill Clinton spoke at Cornell commencement. The students voted for him to be their speaker. But actually, Northampton, Massachusetts, home of Smith College, is the real City of Evil.

Yeah, it is pretty ironic that they celebrated the decision in "Brown vs Board of Education," by donating huge sums of money to a building that encourages a system of voluntary segregation on campus.

Northampton, Massachusetts, home of Smith College, is the real City of Evil.

Can Northampton top this laundry list of malevolence?

Originally called "Sodom" in frontier days, and home to Lucifer Falls, Ithaca is host to two colleges, Cornell U (aptly nick-named "the Big Red") and Ithaca College (which flies the gay flag over its campus), the two major employers in the area. They ensure that a disproportionate amount of "ivory tower liberals" dominate the city.

Click here to see some "typical" Ithacans. Scary, huh?

With a crew like this in charge, locating copies of National Review or the American Spectator requires a trip out of the City, while Ithaca magazine racks remain well-stocked with copies of The Progressive, and The Nation. Readers interested in exposing themselves to a full range of national opinion are simply out of luck.

As a result of this dominiance, politics in Ithaca runs the gamet from "liberal" to "communist."

For years, the town had an openly socialist mayor. They later elected him to the school board.

Even today, the City and County governments are dominated by democrats and Green party members. Ithaca is so "Green" that Ralph Nader got more votes in Ithaca than George W. Bush, and the NYS Green Party held its 2002 nominating convention there. The current Chair of the County Legislature is a radical former anti-war protester, self-described hippie, who says "My values haven't changed, just my tactics."

Another local political figure, commenting on September 11, said >"I think the U.S. is starting to pay for the fact that it's been a rogue state for years."

As a result, we get lunacy like spending $500,000 to install solar panels on the new library (in cold, dark, upstate NY).

Even law enforcement is subject to political correctness. One former police chief's major concern was "pushing for departmental diversity.". His replacement was picked because they wanted a minority, but he failed the civil service exam twice. The latest chief was chosen simply because they wanted a woman. Her most notable accomplisments are attending topless protests and and banning the U.S. flag from police uniforms.

To make matters worse, the liberals who dominate Ithaca work overtime to impose their ultra liberal agenda on the area children. As the local newspaper recently put it, “In most places, youngsters spend their summers camping, or at the mountains or the beach. In Ithaca, they learn how to become social activists.”

The School District has mandated that elementary school students in the first and second grades be graded on how well they "respect others of varying cultures, genders, experiences, and abilities." It's even listed on the schools' report card. Despite this alleged tolerance, a student who was found reading the bible on her lunch hour was chatised for doing so. Another was directed not to bring a book about Christmas to school.

There's even a taxpayer funded "alternative" (ie, hippie) school that let's students graduate in majors like basket weaving and political activism, and invited convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal to be its graduation speaker .

These schools churn out "educated idiots," who are so liberal, they write editorials that argue "Bin Laden is Human too."

Need more proof? Do a search for "Ithaca" here at FR. You'll see a near daily dose of institutionalized, unfettered, liberal idiocy.

As a result of its unfettered liberalism, Ithaca was voted most enlightened (ie, liberal) city in America by the ultra left Utne Reader. As a good, conservative Freeper, I'm sure you'll agree that, contrary to what Utne says, "liberal" is not "enlightened." Unfettered liberalism is, well, evil.

As the most liberal city in America,"Ithaca is the City of Evil."

I was in Northampton and couldn't tell who were men and who were women. Turned out the men were women. Half of them were pushing baby carriages or carrying their adopted toddlers by the hand. At least Ithaca has Moosewood. Northampton is a disease. Greetings from Northampton

I should also point out that Cornell's faculty, which comprises a large chunk of the city's population, is more liberal than Harvard's.

A few years ago, the September 2002 issue of American Enterprise had an article about how the nation's colleges are not merely overrun by liberals, but that there are so many liberals on campus that conservatives are virtually non-existent.

Only approximately three percent of Cornell's professors are "republican" or "conservative." (Ithaca college only had approximately six percent).

That means Cornell has less conservatives than either Harvard or Berkley.

Since these faculty members (and their spouses) (and like-minded grad students) comprise a major chunk of Ithaca's population, it;s going to be hard to beat Ithaca for pure evil

IOW, after the school administration caved into extortion by domestic terrorists...

True. But at least they have some men in Ithaca, and a kosher dining hall at Cornell. But I'll grant you, Ithaca is evil.

Most universities are governed by evil spiritual principalities. Even MIT is anti-ROTC and started that petition to boycott Israel, or something like that.

Ah yes liberal Cornell and Ithaca.

One bright note amid the fog of uberliberalism---this morning I noticed that my favorite Tompkins County bagel and Deli shop has on this month's menu a special sandwich called:

"Clinton's 'Wich"

In honor of Hillary--
Yes indeed there is still a glimmer of hope even in this liberal mecca.

Isn't one of the participants in the 1969 Willard Straight Hall take over now on Cornell's Board of Trustees.

The takeover of the Straight shocked the academic community across America as guns appeared on campus where reason and logic were thought to be the weapons of choice.

the irony is that these pacifist, racist and environmental groups can only survive because of the work and voluntary contributions of the capitalist society that they dispise.

if you read the early 20th century history of these groups, they only emerge after the prosperity of the 1890's and 1920's.

they patterned themselves after the gentry of europe who were anti-industrial revolution and pro-marxist. the roosevelts were an example. eleanor attended communist party meetings in nyc.
