Revenge of the Sith--I've seen it!

Well, you can all relax. While ROTS isn't a masterpiece, it's pretty darn good.

I managed to slip into a preview showing earlier today and had a thoroughly good time. Yes, it's pretty grim in places. Yet if anything, I'd say it wasn't grim enough.

The opening battle will have your jaw hitting the floor. Wall-to-wall butt-kicking on a cosmic scale. And the betrayal of the Jedi...well, it really, really hurts. Even when you know it's coming, it hurts.

Oh, yes. This one's a keeper.

Actually, Jar Jar haters should check out the 'new' ending to Return of the Jedi - Jar Jar's still around after all those years, apparently.

Same here. The more times I saw Phantom Menace (quite a few, since I'm a SW-loving dork), the more Jar Jar grew on me. The battle scene at the end where Jar Jar accidentally holds off the robots got better every time. There are many bad things about these prequels, but I don't think Jar Jar is anywhere near the worst of them.

Plus, even if you do hate the character, you have to love the fact that George Lucas made him more or less responsible for the destruction of the Republic in Attack of the Clones.

Jar Jar must have been edited out, then. I've skimmed the script and he did have at least a couple lines (bumping into Anakin in the hall or some such thing).

This is, of course, the precursor to the flying winnebago in Space Balls...

Nooooope. So far as the script goes, anyway. Major screw-up by Lucas.

LOL! Not the prettiest thing I agree. But it has ten heavy turbolasers and twenty ion cannons (a great deal of them replace the ion cannons with twenty laser cannons). Even without its shields it can take severe puishment because of its incredibly dense structure.

I still prefer the Ewok hang-glider. It has eight sticks and one big dirty rag.

I loved the British television series and read all of Douglas Adams' books. This movie was such a let down. One of the things that disappointed me was the lack of "Britishness" in the movie. The hapless Arthur Dent is the quintessential Englishman character. This movie lost that aspect.

No flaming from me, either. As weak as the Phantom Menace was- Attack of the Clones was ten times worse. At TPM was a good kids' movie to watch. AOTC was just awful.

You're making me want to see this film!

I was at Walmart the other day and they had a wall of TV's in the electronics section playing Empire Strikes Back. I stood there for a while watching and thinking about how the Star Wars movies used to be really good, once upon a time. The last few were so mediocre that I had kind of given up on the series. Sounds like this one might be worth seeing.

Quick question: are they still using lots of computer animation? Someone told me they heard that Lucas was going back to using models for this film, which I think would be great.

One of my favorite things about the early Star Wars movies was their use of models. I think especially of the snow walkers in Empire Strikes Back -- oh man, so cool. Models gave the those movies a certain feel that was totally lost with CGI the stuff. For some reason the slight unrealisticness of the models is less bothersome to me than that of CGI. With both you can tell that what you're seeing is "not quite real", but somehow I'm more willing to suspend my disbelief with models. CGI makes me want to nitpick. In a row of computer-modelled droid warriors, I start looking to see which ones are cut-and-paste copies of each other. Sometimes it's all a little too neat and perfect. With models, I know that the Lucas knows that I know he's using models -- there's really no hiding it -- so it's like there's an understanding from the outset that stuff's not going to look perfectly real. You know you're seeing models but you appreciate the technique.

I heartily agree with your comments. I've seen bits and pieces of the last Star Wars movie (whatever it was called) and really could care less about seeing it all the way through. It's just totally limp and uninteresting. On the other hand, when they happened to be playing Empire Strikes Back on the TVs at Walmart the other day, I was stuck there for like twenty minutes watching. I had to peel myself away from it. No fancy CGI, but a much, much better film. Thirty seconds of interaction between Hans Solo and Princess Leah is worth more than the last two movies combined. Hopefully Lucas will get back on track with this latest one.

This picture has to be a joke. Whoever designed it clearly had a terminal case of, uh, "cruiser envy."

I refuse to refer to this movie by any other title than "Killer Clones from Outer Space"

I recently saw the original SW on Laser-disk (remember that format?) and remembered just how great a movie that was (before George Lucas "fixed it"). I now have it on DVD in its original condition even though Lucas doesn't want it out that way.

The original Star Wars is the ONLY truly great movie of the six. Every subsequent movie suffers from its blatantly trying to copy the greatness of the first one.

1. Credibility check: weren't you a big McCain fan?

2. What about taking kids? I have a 5yob and a 9yob, we don't plan to bring the 5yo, but are wondering about the 9yob. We're fairly protective of him, but he's seen all three LOTR movies, and another PG-13 or two.

Any SPOILER-FREE thoughts?

Dan
