00:05:16

Commentary: The main theme of this story is Marge's sister who wants a baby and upon Lisa's advice, that there are millions of Chinese girls to adopt, visits the Chinese Embassy in Springfield. (Click here for the full synopsis). There are jokes about China as well as America, although much more of the former than the latter. We're going to visit some of the Chinese ones as the American jokes are few in between and mostly about Homer's weight.

00:05:18

Commentary: Note how all the countries are in different colors except for South Asia.

00:05:36

Commentary: Note how the word Taiwan is in Country bold, as is South Korea (after all they animated this) and note how the disputed islands are well, blue, neutral.

00:05:44

Commentary: There's many shots of Taiwan being the brightest country on the map practically DPP Green the whole time. (31 seconds of airtime and most of it with Taiwan near the center!)

00:10:04

Commentary: They visit the "Tomb of Chairman Mao".

00:10:07

Homer: "Ohhoh, look at him, he's like a little angel..."

00:10:13

Homer: "...who killed 50 million people, goocheegoochee goo! Yes you are!"

00:11:23

Commentary: Krusty Burger never looked so good, note the uniform.

00:11:47

Madam Wu: "Lisa, soon you'll have a Chinese baby sister who will surpass you academically!"

Lisa: "I don't know about that, I'm considered preeeetty smart."

00:11:53

Madam Wu: "Well Tibet was considered pretty independent, how'd that work out?"

00:11:54

Lisa: "*Gasp* How dare you make light of that brutal..."

00:11:58

Marge: *Pulls Lisa back* "Oh mind your manners Lisa!" *Uncomfortably*

00:12:29

Host: "I regret  to inform you that our final stunt will not be performed, our star acrobat had an onset of outspoken-ness and suffered a bullet related death."

00:12:31

Man1: "This is most disillusioning!"

00:12:32

Woman: "It seems our leaders are not all knowing"

00:12:39

Man2: "Now I will question everything! Why doesn't Pearl Jam ever come here?!"

Audience: *Angry words of protest* *Crowd gets really angry*

00:12:43

Madam Wu: "Homer we need your acrobatic skills, only you can prevent this riot and save our..."

00:12:48

Madam Wu: *looks into air* "...beloved communist dictatorship"

00:12:49

Homer: "You guys are commies?"

00:12:52

Homer: "Then why am I seeing rudimentary free markets?"

00:13:45

Commentary: Homer makes the stunt. Like in many totalitarian nations, the people clap politely like drones instead of cheer, holler, or make any other noises. (See North Korea)

Audience: *Claps*

00:15:12

Commentary: Chairman Mao's portrait above a hospital bed is used as a 1984-esque Big Brother like spy.

00:15:56

Commentary: Note the Chinese characters...hrm... note the non-simplified-ness.

00:17:41

Commentary: Theres a part about how anyone could be spies a minute before this but I decided to exclude it.

00:18:07

00:18:37

Commentary: Yes Madam Wu is there to stop the Simpsons in a tank... at Tianamen Square.

The Simpsons has always been the wittiest show on television.

Do the Chinese ideograms at the nursery and airport have any meaning?
Do they match the English?

Yeah, yeah, I know - it was an atrocity; but the sign's just so damned funny!

Yes, that was a funny one!

As I recall, the episode made me chuckle. The visits to Japan, Britain, and Australia were pretty good too.

When did this episode air?!? You mean after loyally watching the show for 15 years or so, and the leftwing bias eventually drives me away this season, they *actually* do a show challenging communism and the Chinese Gov't?!?

TLR -
Much thanks for the post. I do not receive Simpsons or King of the Hill here.

Good to see Homer "puttin' it to the Commies.'
