Consistently with the principles of sovereignty of any given government on its own citizens, no government is forced by international law to extradite its citizens to a foreign government. Thus, the French government (as most European governments, along with Canada and Mexico among other countries) cannot extradite a citizen to a foreign country.

But, the possibility of stripping one's person from her French citizenship DOES exists for non-French born citizens, as it does for other governments. The French Code notably gives leeway to the government to strip naturalized French people from French citizenship in case of crimes against France's interests, which can be loosely extended to any terrorist act.

Another option is for the government of the country where the crime took place to ask the French government to put the suspected person on trial on its behalf.

For example, film director Roman Polanski was convicted of rape in the United States in 1977 but fled to France before sentencing. As a French citizen, he cannot be extradited to the United States, but the French government did propose to prosecute Polanski could be prosecuted in France if the US authorities so requested, an offer US authorities declined.

So, I think it would be easy for the French government to extradite a man suspected of terrorist acts and condemned in absentia in a foreign country, but probably not for hate-preaching imams.

For one thing, those are usually not French citizens (hence their deportation instead of imprisonment). For another, I don't see foreign governments bothering with prosecuting them for hate speech only.

Thanks. I know I won't have time, but if anyone else wants to, feel free.

I just want the message to get out.

Fox News is stating that the London police have issued a statement that the shooting was a tragic mistake. Do you have any further information? Thanks.

Not really, no, I've been sitting at the PC for the past few hours.

If indeed he was innocent, it was a terrible mistake. However, it is kind of sensible to stop when the police tell you to; his behaviour was suicidal.

Regards, Ivan

D@@n! Thanks for the quick reply. This type of statement from the police is a gift from heaven to the terrorists and the loony left. Assuming that the initial reports that he ran from the police are correct, this situation should not have been labeled a mistake, even if he is not related to the terrorist events.

They seem to have shot an innocent Brazilian for some reason. We're waiting for them to explain exactly why.

They have said "sorry" ...

"Shot man not connected to bombing"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Brazilian diplomats in London said they had been told by police that the man who was shot dead by police on Friday was a Brazilian.

An earlier Scotland Yard statement read: "We believe we now know the identity of the man shot at Stockwell Underground station by police on Friday 22nd July 2005, although he is still subject to formal identification.

"We are now satisfied that he was not connected with the incidents of Thursday 21st July 2005.

"For somebody to lose their life in such circumstances is a tragedy and one that the Metropolitan Police Service regrets."

The statement confirmed the man had been followed by police from a house in Tulse Hill that was under surveillance."

"Man Killed by Police Had No Connection to London Attacks"
Saturday, July 23, 2005
AP

ARTICLE SNIPPET: ""For somebody to lose their life in such circumstances is a tragedy and one that the Metropolitan Police Service regrets," a police spokesman said on customary condition of anonymity.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was shot Friday at a subway station in the south London neighborhood of Stockwell (search). Witnesses said the man appeared to be South Asian and was wearing a heavy padded coat when police chased him into a subway car, pinned him to the ground and shot him in the head and torso.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard (search) said on customary condition of anonymity that the man was unconnected to the incidents of Thursday, in which bombs placed on three subway cars and a double-decker bus failed to detonate properly.

The spokesman also said the man was "probably unconnected" to the July 7 subway and bus bombings that killed 56 people, including four attackers.

However, Scotland Yard would not rule out that the man was not connected to any terrorist actions."

So, the "statement" and not the shooting itself is a gift to the terrorists? Interesting.

"Scotland Yard would not rule out that the man was not connected to any terrorist actions."

Well, there are plenty of things they won't be able to rule out. Now that he's dead.

The DeLisle was a designated special ops weapon used in specific situations - such as discrete asassinations of high value targets behind enemy lines.

I've read where in WW-II Commandos would hide in the Phillipine jungles to ambush a Jap convoy. They would pick off one Jap from every third truck or so, and they never knew where it was coming from. After a while it drove them insane, apparently.

I would imagine that such operatives would have regular combat weapons and / or a Sniper security team with them in case they were spotted or had to duke it out with an enemy patrol.

In one of the gun forums a fellow - alledgedly a Brit - posted, who had a brief tour of an SAS office a few years ago.

According to him, they had four or five souped - up old De Lisles (wearing Starlight optics and such) in the weapons rack, which his guide was quite unwilling to discuss.

Not that many people would know a DeLisle if they saw one, I suppose.

At least one place is making replicas - with the "can" for those with the BATFE paperwork for same, or with a dummy supressor for those of us who don't.

A lot of Brits are modifying Enfields into pistol caliber "Gallery rifles" that they can use in indoor ranges, now that all of their grand old shooting ranges have been taken away or locked to civilians.

Push come to shove, I'd rather have a .45 carbine than try to hold off the Jihad with a golf club!

Re your #427:

"Just find an island that is hostile to human life. Air drop them in with parachutes in their birthday suits, and let them commune with each other and their hostile Allah."

Parachutes?

Jihaddis don't need no steenking parachutes!

Run them out the back of a C-130 from around 30 ft. off of the surface, about a hundred meters off of the shoreline, and let the best Imam beat the sharks in to dry land!

Plant lots of mines all around the place, and sink anything that comes within 3 miles without US Navy authorization.

That goes double for ACLU or Amnesty International!

I'm liking this idea better all the time - thanks!

I like your plan Uncle Jaque!

"Jihaddis don't need no steenking parachutes!

"That goes double for ACLU or Amnesty International! "

Make it a free fire zone. Any USN ship which sinks 5 intruding ships gets a Golden E on their gun mounts and an extra 30 days leave for each crew member.

"I'm liking this idea better all the time - thanks!"
