Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VII
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 8:10:23 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin conceded that as many as 100,000 inner-city residents didn't have the means to leave and an untold number of tourists were stranded by the closing of the airport. At this hour, people are still filing into the Superdome after security screening for weapons and contraband. National Guard have brought in 360,000 MRE (meals ready to eat) to feed the estimated 30,000 storm refugees in the Superdome.

I sooo needed that laugh! Thank you so much. I've been just so sick over what might possibly be lost here.

My pleasure. I had no idea disaster threads could be so..so different!

I worry more about other rubbish.

Boards and even cars could be picked up and slammed against the Dome. Even boats could be picked up and slammed into the dome.

I pray the 40,000 there survive this storm. Children's Hospital only evacuated the first floor. 30 foot surge would flood the second floor if not the third as well. Furthermore they will also be hit by debris that could break the windows even if boarded up.

I'm in Massachusetts and I'm transfixed with this storm. Prayers for all of the folks on the Gulf.

I'm in Alaska and we've been keeping vigil on hurricane Katrina too. A prayerful BUMP for all of those in her dangerous path.

It's a little windy, for the first time in what seems like months. At dusk the sky had a really sick-looking pinkish cast. It was beautiful, and quiet. A little.... (*eyes shift suspiciously*) TOO quiet.

Car's gassed, ice and water are stocked.

I just speculated on the mound the Dome is built on. I am really concerned about these people. I am just so scared of the forces of nature I guess. I have a lot of respect for it and try to worse case anything I do.

There is one of the best fine art photography shops in New Orleans. Wonderful images, stuff that you see in books all the time.

I hope they were able to get them all out, but I cannot imagine they would have had enough time. I guess you could just toss them into a van....Beats having them floating down the street.

If it wasn't for the comic relief and recipes shared between reports I don't know how I would have lasted when Isabel was aiming herself at us here in Virginia.

I don't know how many posts total on this multi-level thread (Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VII), but I can say that even though I'm concerned for relatives and others, it certainly doesn't hurt to have fun or giggle once in a while.

I finally caught up with this thread after running a couple hundred behind for most of the night. Thanks to all for all the hurricane info, the recipes, and enough good humor to keep everyone sane! My prayers for everyone who is in harm's way. G'night :)

Kitties like trees, let's put the petty differences aside for the night, it'll be a pleasant experience for both of you, and the next thing we'll see is you two going out for dinner and a movie.

Yep. There's two mods here now.

I feel safer already. Next time I need to board up the windows, can you do that too?
