WWL: The flooding in Arabi wasn't a levee breach, but overtopping from the Miss. River. 10-12' deep.

Am I right in assuming that the worst of the storm hasn't gotten there?

The Oct. 2004 National Geographic had a very good article, "The Big Uneasy", about what could happen to New Orleans if a Catagory Five hit it. Worth a read if you, like me, have stacks of old National Geographics lying around.

One of the big threats was as the eye passed it first pushed water into Lake Pontchartrin and then as the eye moved north the wind over the lake shifted to the south pushing the water over the levees flooding the city.

Hopefully it has weakened enough that at flooding over those levees won't be as bad as was feared. Seems just a little too early to tell.

Re: 'The armor and hull is made of some of the thickest, most homogenous steel ever produced by man. A hurricane isn't going to do anything to it if the hatches are closed. In fact, even a tsunami probably wouldn't do much to the hull.

'On top of that and unlike a building, it *floats*. "What storm surge?"'

Yes, but an unpowered 45,000 ton battleship floating in Mobile Bay at the mercy of the winds would not be a good thing...

Gov.Barber giving a good recap of what will happen when winds and water allow search and rescue efforts.

"Looters will be treated relentlessly!" ..... YAY for that! Mentions .... "rules of engagement." ...

Whoa, did you just hear Haley Barbour tell looters he has instructed LE to deal with them 'ruthlessly'? The guy behind and to the right of him smirked. Funny.
