France is 'enemy No 1'

Paris - An Algerian Islamist organisation, the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), has issued a call for action against France, which it describes as "enemy No 1", intelligence officials said on Tuesday.

"The only way to teach France to behave is jihad and the Islamic martyr," said the group's leader, Abu Mossab Abdelwadoud, also known as Abdelmalek Dourkdal, in an internet message earlier this month.

He was quoted as saying: "France is our enemy No 1, the enemy of our religion, the enemy of our community."

France was mentioned 15 times in the text and the Algerian government was also targeted, said the officials.

Nine people detained in a series of raids west of Paris on Monday are suspected members of the GSPC, officials have said.

They were being questioned for a second day on Tuesday at the headquarters of the DST domestic intelligence agency.

Interior minister Nicolas Sarkozy said on Monday the risk of terrorist attack in France is "at a very high level... There are cells operating on our territory".

The GSPC was created from a split in the Armed Islamic Group, the main force in Algeria's long insurgency, which was also responsible for a series of bombings in France in 1995.

The French foolishly thought the Islamo-fascist jihad was just about Iraq and ignored their own problem with Morroccan and Algerian extremists in their country.

Sounds like a quagmire to me.

A hit on the West (Left) coast.... Yes, it would have an unintended effect upon the WOT in the US as well, e.g., the red (socialist) flags would be unfurreled declaring their solidaridy with those who bring the truth:)

I sometimes wonder how long the war between citizens of Western Nations and criminals from from Islam will go on before Islam destroys a city or it greater population - and wonder further which Islamic city will be reduced in fire, and at what point the give and take ends.... Does it take the absolute horror of destruction like that visited upon Germany and certain Japanese cities to make a people happy to live in Peace -- peace being the object of much Islamic writing. Or will it take wiping out entire populations and strains of populations that engage in certain idealogy to end the WOT, e.g., maybe waiting for the godsend of destroyed capitals in numurous Western cities will result in rendering large swaths of Islamic terror-itory radiated and uncrossable, along with the destruction of most of the practioners.

Explusion of those following a religion that creates a state of alligance rather than the State of residence might also result in a moderating tone from these hatemongers.

In spite of their reputation, France, if hit, will not show mercy or PC when reacting.

Absolutely correct. That American libs believe the French are the epitome of pc and restraint is attributable to pure ignorance. When their own ox is gored, the French can be brutally effective.

If things get nasty, it is the leaders of each Islamic nation whose butts will be in a sling when the U.S. takes the gloves off. And those leaders know it. That is what will stop the whole show from escalating. Each leader in the region will clamp down like you wouldn't believe because they will be doing it for their own self-preservation. The first to go will be Assad in Syria, and even he has sufficient smarts to know that. At the first sign of serious trouble, he will pull a Chadafi; until then he'll stick to his rope-a-dope.

You're both right, I think. French colonialism was brutal -- perhaps especially in Algeria.

Yep, do as I say, not as I do... I remember the terrible photos of the woman who got shot in the head (more like decapitated) on Ivory Coast last year. She was shot by a French soldier for merely protesting the French being there while the French were getting trigger happy with the increasing surrounding violence. It was the same time the French got bombed by the SU-25 Frogfoots, which they promptly stormed and destroyed when they landed. Do as I say, not as I do....

There are no surprises here.

The Islamists have been at war with the whole West for a long time. They tried to plant bombs on the Toulouse TGV, but were foiled. They tried to plant bombs at another TGV line (I cannot remember where) but were foiled. They were planning an attack on the Metro, but were foiled.

Why are they foiled so often?
Because French intelligence has permeated the mosques and watches the Muslims like a hawk.
Everybody understands the threat: France was hit by Islamist terror in the 1970s and 1980s, and the intelligence services focused then on the Islamists, and monitors them all closely.

Also, France has good diplomatic relations with a number of states that are bad actors, who support terrorism. Now, obviously France opposes terrorism, but it is important to keep your enemy close, where you can see him, and where you can warn the heads of state of these states that allowing terrorists that we know they fund and control to strike French targets can have deadly consequences for themselves, their regimes, their cohorts, perhaps their closer relations.
Nobody is playing any games here.
When the Syrian government, whom France watches closely, became obstreperous in Lebanon, France immediately locked arms with the Americans and the Lebanese and the Syrians were driven out of Lebanon in a month.

Nobody in Paris has any illusions: the Islamists hate France, and should. France does not let them practice their religion in France. There will be no headscarf, no public subordination of women. There will be no madrassas, no preaching of hatred. Those mullahs given a preaching license by the French state will preach the official, peaceful, docile version of Islam. The violent version is not welcome in France, is vigorously repressed, and will continue to be so. Those who preach religion without a license will continue to be rounded up, stripped of their citizenship, and flown one way to Timbouktou or similar places in North Africa.

This is no game. The terrorists want to hit France. And they are going to try. But they are probably not going to get away with it.

Of course, these are the amateurs here, the religious fanatics. They've been captured and the public spectacle is being made to intimidate the rest of the Muslims to watch their speech and watch who they associate with.

When the really vicious professional international terrorists are captured, no one ever hears of this, and they are never seen again. They provide the other pieces of the information that is required to stay ahead of the terrorists and know what they are doing.
These people intend to kill the French people.
They are combattants.
They have information.
It is extracted.
Nobody like that ever comes OUT of a French interrogation center to report what goes on.

Of course that latter bit is a James Bond fantasy and no such thing exists in France, given that France is a nation of laws and human rights. Of course.

The Americans detain captured terrorists at Guantanamo.
France is evidently so incompetent that they never capture any terrorists, ever, because there are no known detention centers and none are ever reported. It must be that with all those Muslims in France, that France - given that no terrorists are ever captured there, according to any published reports in any source you will find anywhere - is just incredibly lucky. Yes, it must be mere dumb luck that found those bombs under the TGV lines out in the countryside.

France is lucky. She could not be either brutal nor effective. That would be unthinkable.

Were I a Muslim terrorist, I would operate out of Germany or London. There are more Muslims in Paris, but I value my balls and should not like to be made to eat them as my last meal.
But that's just another dark legend...
