From Staff Reports
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.

The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department.

The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State.

After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.

The video I was watching a few minutes ago said they did a precautionary detonation of a backpack found nearby. It would only be reported as a bomb if they got a secondary explosion when they detonated it. They did this rather than have someone open it and find out the hard way that it was a bomb, or maybe not. Could be hard on the opener that way...

Funny how they haven't put out any statement on the identity of the bomber yet. If it wasn't a Muslim, you'd think they'd rush out that information as soon as possible to quell speculation.

Generally they don't release the identity of the dead until next-of-kin have been notified

That won't hold water after this afternoon

Unless the dead person left a highly visible note or video, someone has to turn up missing for an identification.

First, I'm not your buddy.

Second - Don't assume you know what I'm thinking

Third - your sarcasm is not appreciated.

I dont believe you've defaulted to the most common answer here. I'd rather not speculate UNTILL facts arrive, thats just me though .

this is not a "stupid thread". these are the questions the media should be asking, but aren't. no one is asking the media to draw any conclusions - just ask some questions and get some information, that's all. the same questions people are asking here.

Unless it was a suicide after a biochemical attack has already occured and the effects have not yet been perceived.

YIKES!

Oh for heaven's sake..speculating, tossing out ideas-crazy as they may seem is brain-storming. Seems to me there was some completely out of control speculating during early Rathergate..God knows some folks thought Buckhead was wearing tinfoil then. As far as I can see- this is normal.

I applaud anyone who keeps a skeptical eye here- but getting sanctimonious and self-righteous is a bit much.

"I dont really think there is a media conspiracy to cover up an attempted suicide attack on a football stadium."

How many countless hours have we endured in Natalee Holloway story.

Yet, barely a passing mention of a person blows them self up outside a college football stadium with 84,000 people inside?

Does not make sense.

It is almost noon (over twelve hours since the blast) and there is not a single live report from the scene on any of the major news channels.

No interest from MSM.

Tell me why?

I just spoke with an aunt of mine who lives in Tulsa. She and her husband were at the game tonight and they saw the area marked with police tape. She spoke with one of the cops and he stated that there were "multiple devices" in the cordoned area. The cops on the scene think that the bomber was trying to attach the bombs to the parked buses when a bomb detonated before he could do so.

Weren't these K-State buses? Is Sen. Roberts a K-State alum? Isn't he Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee? Might've been quite a statement to him if they'd succeeded.

PS: Did you try to use your cell phone between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the campus vicinity?

I have relatives who work at the University and attended the game.

I called her this morning to see what was up.

She talked to someone in security and now thinks that this was more than some disgruntled student wanting to commit suicide by pipe bomb.

The facts given so far just don't seem to add up.

No, this is a quite stupid thread, bordering on ridiculous. One should never conclude a problem simply because of a lack of facts. Sometimes you don't know because you don't know. It doesn't have to mean anything.

For the record, our local teevee news (all three networks) reported the second "device" being found and detonated last night. Today being Sunday, most news is on cable/satellite, but tonight might bring more info.

Remember that the BBC and British authorities were reporting for several hours that the 7/7 subway and bus bombings were caused by transformer malfunctions and they refused to identify the perps as muslims until a couple days later. The never wanted to use the word "bomb" and "muslims". And they did their best to try to say that it wasn't suicide bombers, even when witnesses were speaking about the bomber on the bus being an agitated muslim. It looks like the same thing is going on here.
