80% of Potential SCOTUS Nominees on W's List Decline His Offer
Fox News | 10-11-05 | freedom4me

Posted on 10/11/2005 9:08:44 PM PDT by freedom4me

During the 11:00 p.m. (CST) newsbreak, Donna Fuducia reported that Karl Rove told James Dobson that 80% of the potential SCOTUS nominees on the President's list declined his offer because of they didn't want to undergo the grueling confirmation process. Perhaps this sheds new light on the reason why W chose Miers.

"I have to agree...as bad as the hoopla over Miers has been, Gonsalez would have been, and will be if it happens, much worse because Dobson and others oppose him. But if W gets two more picks, and he picks a popular conservative for his third pick, he may get away with naming Gonsales for his 4th pick...."

That is indeed prescient analysis. My hat is off to you.

Ah.........now we're seeing it all. Finally.

Shame on Krauthammer, and Kristol........for their antics in all of this. And shame on Coulter too.

Kristol Kreme loves McCain....nuff said.

Good grief - that doesn't make much sense. I am sure they considered more, then kept cutting down the list, until they got to one. Just because, at some point in the process, there was a list of length five is no reason to get your knickers in a bunch.

RINO has become a very overused acronym.

I avoid using it for that reason. I don't agree with Specter or Snowe much of the time, but they are Republicans. Not Conservative, of course -- but still Republican.

I reserve RINO for a politician who says he's a Republican but votes with the 'Rats more often than not. Two examples are Jumping Jim Jeffords (before he jumped) and Senator Lowell Weicker.

Duty, Honor, Country.

Pretty simple, when I was in the USMC I was expected to lay down my life at a momnet notice, I think a week or two of embrassing questions is doable.

Who said we are losing? As President Bush said himself, "you are with us or you are with...", referring to terrorists and countries that harbor them. So why should we be afraid of little dumocrat and rino nobodies?

Ok...I was headed for bed...

For those of you upset with the lack of fortitude in the people who turned the President down...

Is it possible that they have something in their background that might embarrass the President or his administration and they didn't want to put us all through that?

Just another angle to toss into the mix. I think it is very easy for all of us to sit here and throw stones. But this is an exceptionally complex situation, and to ignore that fact just makes us look ridiculous.

Wow. A fourth pick. That has to be a record.

Hey, what is with this President rewarding his friends and devoted supporters with lifetime appointments to the Supreme Court! Hey, if you think ya gotta do somethin' nice why not make them ambassadors to Aruba or something, like every other President has done. Jeesh, the Supreme Court is too damn important for this kind of BS. JMHO

My favorite story on this point is about John Marshall and John Adams. With the Federalist ship sinking, Adams had to work hard to persuade Marshall, his secretary of state and one of the few men he could trust, to take the job. Marshall had already turned down an earlier offer of an associate position.

Speaking of having a pair, Newsweek has the emails from the brain trust who helped get Roberts confirmed. Many on the e-mail trail fretted about their own "credibility" if they publicly took up the cause for Miers, who seemed to lack the credentials they value. All they cared about was how it looked, because Bush so obviously let cronyism dictate his choice.

So they basically threw the President and his nominee to the wolves to protect their credibility, because they were afraid of what people might say about "cronyism".

Boy, it's too bad "cronyism" isn't a lefty word like sexism is.

I am sure that these prospective candidates have an inside knowledge of the realities of these confirmation hearings. The confirmation process could be lethal to their future and I am sure the word of that reality is common knowledge in the legal community.

This next confirmation will be a huge battle. Get you husband out of bed and have him do a few push ups. We need all the political muscle (figurative speaking) we can get to give support to Miss Miers' confirmation.

As far as getting another rock-ribbed Conservative on the Supreme Court, right now I would not say we are winning. That is what I meant.
