The "Go-Go White Sox" reached the World Series in 1959. Go back further, to 1917, for the last South Side champs.

Okay, how do you explain the other 3 losses?
To: US_MilitaryRules
Umpires were the worst. Can't argue with that, although I have seen it on both sides and in both series, what a shame for sure..

Four consecutive complete games is remarkable. A Houston/CHISOX World Series would be great for baseball. I'll have to root for the Astros to finally win a championship. (Note: St. Louis still could win the NL, but it's not looking good for them.)

I actually don't think that was a clean catch! The ball changes its arc.

Sox played well all year and in this series. Too bad they lost any respect they earned.
How can they lose respect if they played well in this series? How did the White Sox cheat? How is Hillary connected to this? I thought she was a Cub/Yankee fan...

Thanks for posting that to settle a question I had yet to resolve.
It bounced off the lip of the glove and sounde dlike a trapped catch to the ump.

I think some people expect a team to argue with an Ump to take a call away from them if they think they didn't earn it. Sort of like a football player who gets away with a hold asking an Official to call him on it after the fact. That happens every.....never.

I said that here on FR the day after that infamous play. I don't know how anyone can look at those photos and say with any certainty that the ball did not hit the ground.

If by some miracle, the Cardinals do win it. It would be fun to see Ozzie going against Tony LaRussa, who managed him on the White Sox.
Also, Cub fans would have to cheer for us, just to cheer against the Cards. I'm sure the media would call it the I-55 series.
But it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

I went to every Comiskey Park post season game in, '59.. And I still have a ball signed by Sherman Lollar, Nellie Fox, Louie Aparicio, Jim Landis and Minnie Minoso!!!a real treasure.. I lived in Bridgeport, (Back-of-the-yards)

They would have won in 1919 if tight-wad Comisky would have paid his players enough.
The should dedicate this WS to Shoeless Joe.

In light of tonight's events, Hillary will not only embrace her Illinois heritage, but become a White Sox fan too...the witch.

It bounced off the lip of the glove and sounded like a trapped catch to the ump. That could very well be what happened.
An experienced catcher would have reached out and tagged the batter just to be sure. Especially with a pitcher on the mound like Kelvim Escobar with a nasty split-finger fastball who had been getting White Sox hitters to chase pitches in the dirt for two innings.

Could you believe it when they showed 97-year-old Al Lopez? Al Lopez! He was old when I was a little kid in the 60's!! I can't believe he's still around.
And he got to see the Sox back in the Series. How about that!
