Pennsylvania State police are searching for a 14-year-old girl reportedly kidnapped at gunpoint after her parents were murdered.
Authorities have issued an Amber Alert for Kara Beth Borden, who was last seen at 8 a.m. in Warwick Township, Lancaster County.
Police reported that the teen was taken by 18-year-old David G. Ludwig. Authorities say he was last seen driving a red Volkswagen Jetta with Pennsylvania registration E-H-H-0-9-9-4.
Borden is described as white, 5-feet-1, and 100 pounds, with brown hair with blond highlights. She was last seen wearing a black sweat shirt with "Pillar" across the front, blue jeans and black sneakers.
Ludwig is a white male with brown hair and brown eyes.
State police are urging people in the following counties or cities to be on the lookout for Ludwig: Lancaster, Lebanon, Dauphin, Perry, Juniata, York, Cumberland, Mifflin, Snyder, Northumberland, Franklin, Berks, Chester, Montgomery, Bucks, Philadelphia, Delaware, Schuykill, Lehigh and Northamption counties.
It was not immediately clear how authorities discovered the killings.
Neighbor John Hohman, 40, said he first noticed an ambulance on the street around 8:15 a.m. About 25 minutes later, he said he got a phone call from Lancaster emergency management officials telling his family to stay inside.
Looking out the window, Hohman said he saw teams of police running through the neighborhood; around 10:15 a.m., authorities told him to go into his basement and wait there until further notice.
"We were really upset; we didn't know what going on," Hohman said.
Hohman said Borden, who played soccer, occasionally babysat for him. "She's a very nice girl," Hohman said.
Neighbor Tod Sherman, 47, has lived in the quiet suburban development for 12 years and said that Borden was one of five children.
The Borden family has lived on the street in a tan, two-story house for several years, he said. Kara's father, Mike Borden, worked for a printing company, said Sherman.
"He was very smart and focused, a nice guy. They were super people," Sherman said. "They were just a fine family."
The Bordens home-schooled their children and knew Ludwig through a home-schooling network, Sherman said.
Sherman's son Tyler, 11, played with Kara's youngest brother, David. Tyler said he sometimes saw Ludwig at the Borden house, frequently dressed in black.
"I didn't find him to be very friendly," said Tyler.
The eldest two Borden children, both male, are in their 20s and no longer live at home, Sherman said. The whereabouts of David Borden and Kara's older sister, both of whom still live at home, were not immediately clear.
The Amber Alert system uses a state's emergency notification system to give broadcasters a description of a missing child and a suspect's vehicle. The information is also displayed on electronic highway signs.
It is named for 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, who was kidnapped and killed in Arlington, Texas. It is used in 47 states.

First thought to cross my mind.
That said, unfortunately, in this day and age, anything is possible.

Don't forget Jonathan Luna, no matter how hard the FBI and cops try.
I hope for her safe return as well--but, looking at her picture it would seem she has given up her 'childhood' and it makes me question her 'innocence'---for goodness sake, she looks 18 going on 25---maybe that is part of some young girls problems these days, that their parents let them go around looking 10 years older
"The young girl was out during the night, came home, and her parents confronted her. From what we understand, he came to the house," Seace said.
"We don't know whether she has been abducted or is willingly a part of this," Seace said, but he added that until they can determine otherwise, police are operating on the assumption that Kara had been kidnapped.
Found same quote in umpteen news articles on google news. I think they all came from the AP.
At worst, this 14-year-old girl conspired with her adult boyfriend to murder her parents. At best, her terrible decision to date an adult against her parents decision got them both killed. Of course, this is all speculation at this point but when the truth comes out, I don't see any scenario where this girl comes out smelling like a rose. This is no "babe in the woods" we are dealing with here.
So forgive me if my sympathy doesn't lie with this girl at this moment. It lies with her dead parents and her other siblings who must now grow up without them.
Haven't forgot. His fate still has heads scratching.
I believe you have "nailed it" Sam
I agree with you. These should definitely stay in Breaking News for at least 24 hours.
I don't know if she planned it, she may have been caught by surprise when he brought out the gun and shot her parents. But she clearly wasn't innocent- they are saying now that she was out all night prior to this morning when her parents were murdered.
Pennsylvania State Police ONLY issues Amber Alerts when there is immediate threat to life of child (no crying wolf in this State); most successful conclusions occur within first two hours.
Clock is ticking too long for this one, IMHO.
I surely hope all 14 year old girls don't look like this one--she looks more like what we used to call a "floozy"--then again, we raised 5 daughters and none of them looked like this at 14 (plucked eyebrows and pancake--sheesh)

Thanks for the ping. Prayers being offered now.

I know Ludwig wasnt welcome in the Borden home. It appears that Kara may have been seeing him secretly. So, whether she left with him voluntarily or not, the bad decisions of a teenage girl have resulted in the violent death of her parents, with her younger brother perhaps even witnessing their brutal murder. The four other children (two of them still living at home) are the completely innocent victims of this tragedy.
Id like to assume she has a conscience. If and when she is found alive, whether she was complicit or not, her nightmare will have just begun.
So very sad.

I suspect that they, or one, will be found within 24-48 hours. The logistics of their "escape" suggest a sparse plan for the future.
What I don't understand is why the lofty Moderators seldom or never respond to the comments directed to them. Seems rather arrogant to me, even if it is their "playground."
Yes.
