Pennsylvania State police are searching for a 14-year-old girl reportedly kidnapped at gunpoint after her parents were murdered.
Authorities have issued an Amber Alert for Kara Beth Borden, who was last seen at 8 a.m. in Warwick Township, Lancaster County.
Police reported that the teen was taken by 18-year-old David G. Ludwig. Authorities say he was last seen driving a red Volkswagen Jetta with Pennsylvania registration E-H-H-0-9-9-4.
Borden is described as white, 5-feet-1, and 100 pounds, with brown hair with blond highlights. She was last seen wearing a black sweat shirt with "Pillar" across the front, blue jeans and black sneakers.
Ludwig is a white male with brown hair and brown eyes.
State police are urging people in the following counties or cities to be on the lookout for Ludwig: Lancaster, Lebanon, Dauphin, Perry, Juniata, York, Cumberland, Mifflin, Snyder, Northumberland, Franklin, Berks, Chester, Montgomery, Bucks, Philadelphia, Delaware, Schuykill, Lehigh and Northamption counties.
It was not immediately clear how authorities discovered the killings.
Neighbor John Hohman, 40, said he first noticed an ambulance on the street around 8:15 a.m. About 25 minutes later, he said he got a phone call from Lancaster emergency management officials telling his family to stay inside.
Looking out the window, Hohman said he saw teams of police running through the neighborhood; around 10:15 a.m., authorities told him to go into his basement and wait there until further notice.
"We were really upset; we didn't know what going on," Hohman said.
Hohman said Borden, who played soccer, occasionally babysat for him. "She's a very nice girl," Hohman said.
Neighbor Tod Sherman, 47, has lived in the quiet suburban development for 12 years and said that Borden was one of five children.
The Borden family has lived on the street in a tan, two-story house for several years, he said. Kara's father, Mike Borden, worked for a printing company, said Sherman.
"He was very smart and focused, a nice guy. They were super people," Sherman said. "They were just a fine family."
The Bordens home-schooled their children and knew Ludwig through a home-schooling network, Sherman said.
Sherman's son Tyler, 11, played with Kara's youngest brother, David. Tyler said he sometimes saw Ludwig at the Borden house, frequently dressed in black.
"I didn't find him to be very friendly," said Tyler.
The eldest two Borden children, both male, are in their 20s and no longer live at home, Sherman said. The whereabouts of David Borden and Kara's older sister, both of whom still live at home, were not immediately clear.
The Amber Alert system uses a state's emergency notification system to give broadcasters a description of a missing child and a suspect's vehicle. The information is also displayed on electronic highway signs.
It is named for 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, who was kidnapped and killed in Arlington, Texas. It is used in 47 states.

Not sure I follow you there...
Just reading this now...a bit late...but seems the entire nation is into these alerts ...so...go with the flow for now!
We live in a tiny town in NY and the school does the same thing here. If they don't have a call or note from the parent that the child will not be in and their names aren't on the attendance list, they call that morning. I'm glad for it.
My daughter isn't even allowed to date till she's out of high school! She's got the rest of her life to date --
I've been trying for years to try to brainwash my kids into not dating. I like the courtship idea better. Dating is based on such fakeness. You're always trying to impress the other person and acting the way you think that they would like to attract them. The other person doesn't get to see the real you and I tell my kids that they don't really get to know the other person well either because you don't know if they are being honest with you. The best way to get to know someone is to see them in their day to day activities and see how they treat their family.
I did wonder about that possibility. That's an old trick. Not that I ever used it. Nah, not me. :o) Come to think of it - I really didn't. My Dad was known as the Hawk around town. Nothing escaped him.
you have a lot to learn, lady--appearance means much to men, at least it did to men in my day----I came up when "men were men and women were women AND we knew the difference"---we had "floozies" then and they are still around today, believe it or not---let me know in 10-20 years how your duaghter has made out---(no offense intended, just the facts of life)
the witch will get out in a couple of years since she is a 'minor'---hope they "fry" him---what kind of 'animals' carry a gun at 18 and kill their girl friend parents?---nice world we live in, isn't it?---and some bleeding hearts will attempt to justify it, even on Free Republic
That is either your basic sword-type device, or a reasonable facsimile thereof... You know, "There can be only one" /duncanmacleod
some of the "two parent homes that are not living in poverty" are the worst since they think they can "buy their way thru life"----rather hand the kids a $20 than spend any time with them--
because the damn government will step in and prosecute the parents for 'parenting'---many people want to 'coast thru life' and have the government take care of them---be careful what you ask for in this world----we raised 8 and my wife has said many times "if it was today, she would be in jail for giving them the switch when they needed it"---too bad they all turned out great, are an asset to society and themselves--along with that, we have 28 grands and greats, none of which have been in any trouble, support their communities and churches---just maybe, we did something right

What a sad situation for all the families.
I hope parents are aware that even with the computer in a family room, the kids can still be reading horrible comments in the chat rooms and blogs.
Just lately I searched and found the blog of a friend's son (I've known the boy since he was 3 years old). I was totally shocked at the perverse comments and thinking of this boy (he's 18 now).
His mom had told me he had changed the last year for the worse, but I still couldn't believe these "writings" of his came from the same nice boy I knew all those years.
I'm not going to tell his mom I found the blog---it would break her heart too much if she ever read it.
So you parents out there, beware of your children's chat times. They may not be writing terrible things themselves, but they sure can read all kinds of filth, perversion, and rebellion on those blogs and message groups.
Please don't take this lightly. If you're still doubtful, go to some of the xanga sites yourself and read some of the blogs, even some of the college students' blogs at xanga.
There's another site called openteendairy. My friend's son had a blog there too.
Apparently they write these blogs, and then their friends can post comments. It can be shocking....some of these kid's minds are really twisted.
That is very, very depressing.
Just pointing out that a woman who worked in the house for 7 years said that the dead mother had been very concerned about Kara Beth's behaviour lately, and that doesn't sound like
(a) Kara Beth was a totally innocent bystander (not that it says she was an active participant, either), or
(b) the parents were not involved or caring.
My born-again Christian friend was the guardian of her 16-year-old niece and didn't believe me about this--until I showed her some of the sites and transcripts. And how the blocking software was being bypassed. And she had me go into the chat sites posing as a teen--yikes, the stuff that went on! TWISTED and SICK!
What finally got my friend alarmed was the cybersex her niece was having with a 34-year-old.
I had heard that both of them were being home-schooled.
Right. Waaay past her curfew, which the hour-long argument between Kara's parents and the perp was all about. Police said he didn't have any weapons on his body, but a search of his car showed he had an assortment of guns, which is probably where he got the murder weapon.

Confronting their daughter, the Bordens then contacted Ludwig, asking him to come to their house and talk about the situation. Ludwig arrived around 7 a.m., according to the police affidavit.
Katelyn said her parents, sister and Ludwig talked for about one hour.
Borden was escorting Ludwig to the front door, Katelyn told police, when she saw Ludwig with a handgun pointed toward her father ... pull the trigger, heard a gun shot and then she ran into the bathroom.
While hiding in the bathroom, Katelyn told police in the affidavit, she could hear David Ludwig yelling for her sister, Kara. ... She then heard a second shot and she also heard David Ludwig running around the house yelling for Kara. After things got quiet, she then ran out of the bathroom and ran out of the house and went to the neighbors.

I've also known some very caring and loving parents who were raising polite, intelligent, wonderful children & teens and had always homeschooled their children - but there probably ought to be a distinction between the two types of homeschooling somewhere.
