For those freepers who pray, am requesting prayer for my 12-yo daughter who was in a bike accident yesterday afternoon. She has been diagnosed with damage to her pancreas and moved to pediatric intensive care.
We don't know yet the extent of the damage. There are two scenarios that lead to surgery and one that leads to hospitalization and watching and letting her recover on her own. So we're praying for that but we just don't know at this point.
Her mom is at the hospital with her, they spent the night in the emergency room and as mentioned have now been moved to ped intensive care.
They will be doing a test shortly to assess the extent of the damage, we should know more after that.
Thanks for your prayers.
Prayers for complete healing and recovery for this child, and for the entire family as they go through this ordeal.

OK, I am home for the hospital for just a few minutes - in about 5 or 10 minutes from now I will be headed back. I have news, and thank God, a lot of it is good.
The operation lasted quite a bit longer than expected, and I think it was because they were being careful and because her vital signs were good throughout. They were able to avoid cutting up the spleen, but had to take out somewhere between 60% and 80% of her pancreas. The doctor talked like he thought that her body would be able to adjust and that he believd that would be enough left to allow her to regulate insulin properly.
Her mom and I were there when she came up from recovery and Sara is wiped out and in some pain as you can imagine but was as alert and chipper as I could expect. I think she impressed everyone there by remaining calm, cooperating as fully as she could, and asking lots of questions about what was going on in her body, what they would need to do, what the function of the pancreas was and so forth.
In fact, shortly after she came out from under the anesthesia, she was telling us about what the pancreas does, and she asked me whether they had had to remove her spleen. I said no, they were able to avoid doing that. "Good!" she replied.
At the present time she is still in the pediatric ICU and is expected to remain there for the next couple of days. The only reason her mom and I are both home at the moment is that they kicked us out for shift change. I will be leaving as soon as I post this and can grab a small bag to go back up and be with her. Her mom will get to spend tonight at home with her younger siblings.
So I think since my last update everything has gone just as well as could be hoped for given the severity of the injury. Her pancreas was ruptured right about in the middle. It was kind of a freak accident. No car, and she didn't even fall off of her bicycle. She simply lost control of the handlebars and one whipped around and struck her in the abdomen. And she staggered over to the grass and lay down.
I know that when the adrenaline dies down I will be exhausted, as I've had very little sleep over the past 24 or 36 hours. I am still concerned of course about such things as complications and the loss of so much of her pancreas, and definitely still appreciate your prayers for a full recovery with no long term effects. And I also appreciate your encouraging comments. I've tried to read or at least skim everything but have had little time to do so, so I'll have to go back later and make sure I was able to read every reply.
Again, heartfelt thanks from our whole family.
prayers continue
Praise the Lord.
God speed, Luke, and thanks for the update!
CONTINUED PRAYERS.
Sounds like you are raising a fine, bright, mature young lady there. She will be FINE!
Get some rest, Dad! Prayers continue!
Thanks so much for this good news update! Prayers continue for you all. A special hug for Sara. She's a brave smart kid from the sounds of it. Glad you're going to stay there with her dad. I'll forward to more good news updates.
More prayers on the way.
Get some rest, and we'll keep praying.
After an emergency like this, we older folks feel like a Mack truck hit us, so make sure you get your rest and eat well so you can be strong to take care of things when your daughter is discharged.
Encouraging update and prayers continue. When you go to lie down tonight, push your head into the mattress and you'll be surprised how much tension you were holding and feel yourself lower those shoulders away from your ears from tension and relax. Sleep tight!
Continuing prayers for your family!

GOD is GOOD.

Thanks for the update -- it sounds like as good of news as can be expected.
You need to take care of yourself and our family. We apreciate your updates but save your energy and get some rest!
Prayers will continue for Sara, you and your family.
Praise God...
Please, you and your wife, try to take care of yourselves, too...
And give your little one a big ole bear hug from her Freeper prayer warriors, will ya please? :)
Prayers continue and Praise given to God for His hands working on your daughter and everyone involved.
Oh, thank the Good Lord! Continued prayers.
You have a remarkable daughter. This was certainly a bad injury, but it seems she is getting very competent care and with her spirit, and two such wonderful parents, things are looking pretty good. Keeping you all in my prayers.
Good news bump.
Sounds like you have a plucky girl.
Remember to get some rest.

Double prayers and I'll get some more on Sunday...
Praise God from whom all blessings flow!!!! I know you are still concerned, but it sounds as though things have gone so well in the scheme of things. Will continue to lift your daughter and your family up in prayer to the great physician.
Even if it's not, in ten years they'll be able to 'trick' the body into re-growing a full organ.
In fact, shortly after she came out from under the anesthesia, she was telling us about what the pancreas does, and she asked me whether they had had to remove her spleen. I said no, they were able to avoid doing that. "Good!" she replied.
A remarkable young lady.
