Had Patton not died, I'm sure the Dems would try to get him to badmouth Rummy as well...

Can you imagine Patton as Press Secretary? Oh man. There'd have been blood on the walls.

I love these conspiracy theories that become crystal clear 60 years later when nobody will be hurt and everyone interviewed gets a check. Roswell was a non-issue when it happened. 30 years later it was a conspiracy theory accepted as fact. now you can spot the believers by the reflections in the sun from their headgear.

Really? Kamikaze's fought the Russians to a draw in 1905? 1905? When airplanes were backyard toys they had the payload to sink anything bigger than the U.S.S. Minnow?
The "kamikazi" is translated to divine wind in Japanese. It refers to a typhoon that sank a mongrel hoards fleet that came to take Japan. About 900 years earlier.

The US was in no position to argue with Stalin's bottomless supply of the excellent T-34's and the little detail of covering Russia'ss gigantic supply of real estate. George was gutsy enough to do it, but I do not believe it would be of benefit in the long run.

I met a lady whose husband was Pattons driver throughout the war. She lived in Abbeville, Alabama and worked at the courthouse. He neve had an accident of any kind through out the war. He was replaced by the driver who killed Patton only a few weeks (I think) before the accident.

His old time driver was safe and courteous, but patton liked the new one because he drove recklessly.

seriously, I wonder if the Winter of '45/46 was a harsh one in Russia too. Besides your other (very valid) reasons, I'd hate us tempting that traditionally Russian-flavored fate....

There is no way the American People would have supported such a thing and it would not have been any walk in any case. It was the Russian People which provided the bulk of the blood lost in defeating Hitler you should remember. Turning on your ally was more of a Hitler thing I would say.

If there is anyway the dems can blame this on Bush, they will.

He was about to come out and demand Rumsfeld's resignation.

Apparently you do not know the dispositions of forces in Europe at the end of WWII. There was no way we could have forced the Soviets back no competent military analyst would back up that wet dream. Patton would not have been up against any lightweight in Zukov either. Such speculation is beyond silly.

Have you heard about the new book, Patton's Photographs: War As He Saw It?

Historian Kevin Hymel was going through Patton's journals at the Library of Congress when he noticed a listing for twelve photograph albums. He asked for one, mainly out of curiosity, and was stunned to discover that all twelve albums were filled with pictures taken by Patton himself. Apparently he was an avid amateur photographer who took pictures from the day his troops stormed the beaches of North Africa to just a few days before his fatal accident. Hymel then combined the photos with entries from Patton's journals to create a masterful book that historians are raving about.

While Kevin Hymel is listed the author, the book's photographer is General George S. Patton. (not bad for a guy who has been dead for over sixty years)

The book was supposed to be released this week, but it has been pushed back until late June.

The Japanese destroyed the entire Russian Baltic Fleet at Tsushima (Battle of the Sea of Japan).

This was the first ever use of naval radio in combat, giving rise to the resurgence of the "divine wind" moniker kamikaze for the Japanese Fleet.

Those were the thoughts of a man who did not understand how America's system works and were nothing that could have been done by any government except an autocratic or totalitarian one. After the years of propagandizing about the valor of the Russians resisting Hitler and the incredible tales of sieges and huge battles who can really believe that we could have turned on a dime and attacked that very ally?

East Asia is our enemy West Asia is our Friend; East Asia is our Friend West Asia is our Enemy. Impossible.
