"A HOUSE DIVIDED" - Pukin's FReeperversary Rant

Posted on 05/17/2006 7:47:58 AM PDT by Pukin Dog

"A house divided against itself cannot stand." – Abraham Lincoln, 1858

It is getting somewhat strange around these parts when not only the President, but yesterday the First Lady was personally attacked by someone claiming to be a ‘Conservative’. Can there be any doubt that there are forces among us looking to drive a wedge between us?

A few weeks ago, this forum’s owner attempted to remind all of us of the big picture, that regardless of any personal animosity towards the President or Republican Party over their adherence to Conservative principles, that they are still a clear choice over the alternative Democrat Party rule. At that time, I assumed that FReeper-sanity had been restored, and that some of the negative rhetoric aimed at those in Washington D.C. would be dialed back.

Free Republic is a political forum with a proud history and vision, responsible for dragging Dan Rather from his post, and providing countless radio-talk shows with their daily talking points. FReepers are unique in their determination and energy towards protecting and defending the goals of our Founding Fathers.

We are also quite a powder keg of emotion and anticipation, expecting our Republican majorities to take advantage of this opportunity to make permanent gains in our Conservative agenda. Some might argue that this opportunity has been squandered, but those persons would be ignorant of history, lacking understanding that change cannot occur overnight in Washington, and that this is the way our Founders designed our Republic.

In frustration, impatience, and ignorance, we have allowed this forum to become a haven for those who do not share our Conservative goals. I do not blame our enemies anymore then I would blame a scorpion for stinging me. If anger and stupidity were one’s nature, I would expect the trolls that infect this forum to be angry and stupid consistently, which also makes them somewhat easy to detect.

The trolls are not the problem, though. The problem is that so many of us are allowing ourselves to be taken in by those who seek only to prevent us from going to the polls in November to keep their stinking hands off our government for another term. There can be no doubt, that no matter how disappointing our current government has been in promoting the Conservative agenda, that the alternative, enabled by our staying home will be MUCH worse.

The way to deal with Republicans who have actively worked against our goals is to defeat them in Primary elections. We do not even have to defeat them all, only enough of them to send the message that we will indeed target them if they work against our agenda. It should be the goal of EVERY conservative to see that Lincoln Chaffee is defeated in November. His seat is one we can afford to lose. Were I a Rhode Island resident, I would vote for the Democrat if only to send a message to Snowe, Hagel, Collins, Graham, and especially that bastard Specter that their primaries just got a lot tougher.

We only need to get one of them, and Chaffee is the one to get. It does not really matter if a Democrat takes his seat; he will be junior and mute as long as we maintain our overall majority in the Senate.

The one thing that bothers me here like nothing else, is the simple disrespect of the President. Am I am Bush-Bot? Damn straight I am. If you want to know why, click on my handle to read Southack’s excellent list of Bush’s accomplishments in office. But if Bush had done almost nothing in office, it would be no excuse for some of the slights and disrespect he has received from some of us on this forum.

Some of the things I have read here this past week match in tone what one can find on our favorite Democrat sewer site. Someone calling himself or herself a FReeper was promoting shooting aliens at the border until they stopped coming. Is that what we are about? Obviously not, and that so-called Conservative has been eliminated from this forum.

I think it is important to remember that you and I have just as much responsibility as George Bush does in changing our culture to better reflect Conservative values. Right now, this very moment, Conservatives have the government they deserve. We put them there. They are not our mommies and daddies sent out to bring home our Conservative bread. That responsibility lies with all of us. These Republicans represent us, they don’t serve us. Our job is to pick the best individual and send him/her to Washington in the hope that their CHARACTER will see them through.

This is why it is such a nutty thing to consider punishing the Republican party, when we should be letting them know that we’ve got their back, but if they cant do the job, we will replace them with ANOTHER Republican, instead of handing the reigns of government to the party of anger, hopelessness and despair. We sometimes like to think that those people we send to Washington are different from us, that they are capable of meeting our every need and desire.

I want every one of you to think about what you would consider to be your perfect mate. Maybe some of you think you have found that person. If you are married and totally in love with another person, that is great. Now I want to ask you to think about the last time that person you love, who is PERFECT for you, completely pissed you off. Remember, this is your perfect mate, your one true love. Do they do everything you want them to do? Obey your every desire? If you answer yes, I am going to put you on my troll list.

Those people in Washington do not even cut your lawn, yet you expect perfection. Get over it.

I am issuing a challenge to every person who considers him or her to be a Conservative; why don’t we all commit to a return to HONOR? Do we honor our Conservative agenda when we comport ourselves in disgraceful ways? Is it an honorable thing to suggest that our President is a moron, as I read here a few days ago? Is it honorable to attack Laura Bush or any other person representing true Conservative values?

Some of you might argue that George Bush is not representing Conservative values to your liking. I would remind you that the first thing Bush said upon taking office, is that he was going to be President of ALL the people, not just some. You know that if you followed Bush from the beginning that he campaigned of the very immigration platform he is defending right now. Did you vote for him? Yeah?

If you have ever had a steak at a Ruth’s Chris restaurant, you know that sometimes they bring that wonderful steak to your table with a sprig of parsley on it. I hate parsley. Hate it. If I were to treat my steak the way some of us want to treat our President, I would have to throw out the steak, due to that nasty parsley that comes with it. I can deal with the parsley to get the steak, and that is what I am asking FReepers to do.

Expecting perfection from any person, group or team is a recipe for disaster. George W. Bush is my president. You can disagree with him, you can blame him for your problems if that is your desire. If you disrespect his office, his service, his risking his life to be with our troops in Iraq, his steadfast desire to bring a new tone to Washington, or if you just like the way he keeps Democrats so pissed off they lose their minds on a regular basis, I ask you to treat him and his wife with respect and cut the personal attacks. If you call him ‘Shrub’ or ‘Jorge’ consider yourself my enemy.

Right now, our real enemy are the Main Stream Media, the Democrat Party, and all who follow and support them. If you want to jump-ugly on someone, why not start with those leaky bastards and give our side a break?

Do it for Pukin.

I knew that you could.

Sorry I have been absent. Once again, read the post. I did not say YOU were sexist. Nor did Laura Bush. She agrees that there was probably SOME sexism involved. If you persist in saying that the administration called everyone sexists, what am I to think of you?

And as far as the Miers mess, why are you still dwelling on it? It's over.

And I see that you are saying that MY comment is the type to drive you away. Well, you were threatening that before I said a word.

I have spent the last 2 weeks seeing the President that I admire and trust denigrated by a bunch of classless critics who don't have any idea of what is involved in the presidency, and can only gripe that their way wasn't immediately chosen by the President as the way to go. I simply am not going to cater to this any more.

So am I and I've been here for over a year and a half. Are some FReepers more equal than others in your mind?

Not in my mind. Just correcting the record in regards to your claim that Texaggie is a troll.

I can't figure out why he voted against that amendment yesterday.

@@@@@

An elaborate game of chess is being played, perhaps. If the Senate bill holds that nothing can be done to address those already inside our borders until the southern border is "secure" maybe that would be a poison pill, stopping all progress, and leading to a continuation of the situation that exists today -- by claiming that the border would NEVER be secure, no matter how high the wall, etc.

Maybe, these Senators want to get Something into Conference so that status quo can begin to change.

"I don't agree with him on immigration either, but we got Sam Alito, baby."

Pukin Dog, I'm not a BorderBot. I want a Catholic America that outlaws abortion.

The REASON we got Sam Alito was because people like me were deadly serious that we were going to walk out of the Republican Party, fold our arms and stay home if the GOP went ahead with the Miers travesty. They looked into our eyes and realized "My GOD, they're SERIOUS", and they flinched.
That's why we have Sam Alito.

I have listened to the BorderBots. They are as deadly serious about their fence as me and folks like me were about Miers and the Supreme Court. Deadly serious. The difference is that the President has not taken them seriously and did not flinch.

The result is predictable.
I want the GOP to win in November.
But it can't keep Congress if the BorderBots go.
And they are going.
I understand them. I don't agree with them, but I understand them. And they are as serious as I was.

We need to give them their damned fence.
They can't get everything they want.
Bush wants guest worker. They don't.
But if they got their fence, they'd have something, they'd have a victory, and they'd have HOPE. They'd also have something to DEFEND.
As it is, they got the finger.
And they're going to give US the finger in November.
It's not as though they didn't give us fair warning.
They've been screaming it.
We didn't listen, and now it's going to hurt.

Once we've lost, this year, we WILL listen next year, and ilico presto the platform will be a fence, and the nominee will talk about a real fence.

I'd prefer that we not have to go through the intervening defeat.

The border fence is Harriet Miers.
But we GOT Alito.

And I never said there wasn't room for legitimate dissent and anger. I'm not delighted with some things the president has done either. And don't get me started on the Republicans in Congress.

What I'm talking about are posters who we've never seen post before but they signed up years ago. If you check their posting history, they waited until now to post and don't post anything except criticism of the president or Republicans.

And when those same posters start talking about third parties or staying home to teach the Republicans a lesson, then I think they are opinion shapers and trolls.

I signed on to post my own vanity but yours is much nicer.

Mine would have included a line something like this:

The Immigrationbots are unreasonable, and would prefer to use their keyboards to spew at Bush. When he gives them the beginnings of what they have asked for explicitly, their response is not "OK, good beginning, let's work," but "You didn't give us all we wanted, so we aren't playing."

For some reason folks around here are unwilling to call these people what they are. They are not interested in the hard, boring, adult work that would require them to sit down and discuss real world issues and methods of achieving our common goals. They'd rather strut and use their blogs and posts to call the most powerful man on Earth names, all the while demanding our national problem be solved right now, instantly, 100% their way.

These same people quote Ronald Reagan on their website, never addressing the fact that George Bush as of this moment has done far more to address this problem than Reagan ever did--except that Bush is just trying for an unwise Amnesty law, while Reagan SIGNED one.

The Minutemen as recently as LAST MONTH asked for National Guard to be put on the ground.

A month later, Bush delivered.

Now they say that's not enough.

Immigrationbots have been saying all along that a wall needs to go up.

Yesterday on Limbaugh Cheney went on the record saying walls/fences will go up.

Now they say that's not enough.

In 1973, anti-abortion forces demanded Roe v. Wade be overturned. Over THIRTY YEARS LATER that still hasn't happened, but Bush is trying through his SCOTUS choices.

You folks expect the situation to instantly alter, though this problem has taken over the headlines only in the last month.

Sorry. You're not some special class that needs to be tended to instantly. You have to WORK, not whine, not sit out votes, like all the rest of us.

Welcome to the adult world.

Alot of passion and sweat has gone into the election of these people, and to have them turn around and stab their worker bees in the back by failing to do what we sent them there to do is the cause of most of this angst.

They have largely done what they were sent there to do, and more than just quote unquote conservatives (whatever that means) sent them there. It is simply irrational to expect the President or any represetnative to march lock-step with your paticular views. The president represents ALL Republican's, and indeeed, all people of whatever paticular political affiliation.

I don't Nino - I think the dems will use everything to destroy this president and the GOP as we see daily in the media.

We have to work together because we have awesome efforts against the GOP and conservatism. To do otherwise is simply pure stupidity.

The GOP offers a menu of socialist policy, big-government spending, foreign interventionism, state subsidies, political influence peddling, abuse of power, and general disregard for the constitution.
- - -

Is that even the point?

Unless and until there were enough critical mass of a MORE CONSTITUTIONALLY FAITHFUL party WHICH HAD A REALISTIC CHANCE of carrying any election for any position

then

the GOP is the best and only realistic hope we have to even SLOW THE GROWTH OF THE INFLUENCE OF THE COMMUNIST, MARXIST, GESTAPO, MACHIAVELLIAN DIMRATS.

I don't think any of us think the GOP is perfect. They ARE what we have to work within to help our beleagured Republic and it's assaulted Constitution.

Am I missing something?

The courageous among you are cordially invited to take issue with this vanity by posting a reply, as most do, instead of petty attacks via the keyword feature. Keep up your juvenile antics and you won't be around much longer.

And banning posters based on the keywords they post isn't petty?

Forum management is exhibiting an extreme fear of open discussion by thinking conservatives as this nation slides towards socialist globalism, which will be greatly accelerated by the Presidential/Senatorial amnesty.

However juvenile posting keywords may be ... and I've done it, I don't need to tell you ... and YOUR buddies have done it, also ... the other threats that we have been receiving, including a death threat that was posted yesterday and left up on forum for 2 hours, those are plain sinister.

It's clear there isn't room for some of us in the Big Tent, but why the tactics to purge so many posters as is going on now?

I think the best advice I can give anyone wondering what kind of humor is a problem, is to ask if anything they write could appear on DU and be taken seriously. We might be joking over here, but those nutjobs couldn't tell a joke from the nose on their faces. 'Shrub', 'Jorge' and a few other terms are pure DU speak. Bush holds a Master's degree from Harvard. Hardly the stock of a 'moron'. He flew one of the most dangerous jets in military history and lived. Hardly the actions of a 'coward'. Bush beats the democrats like a drum in a parade, yet some thinks we are losing. I could go on for days.....

I'll try to explain this real slow.

Again, your history is faulty.

Reagan nominated Bork. The Democrat Senate rejected him. Reagan nominated Ginsburg, who was forced to withdraw. He then turned to Kennedy, who was confirmable.

Because the Senate was Democrat, and because of the Borking, Bush 41 nominated Souter, the "stealth" candidate with no record, who everyone at the time, including the liberals, thought was a conservative. Because he had nothing to attack, he was confirmable.

You do understand that Presidents cannot appoint SCOTUS Justices without a Senate vote? Because of that they have to nominate confirmable candidates.

Reagan's first choice was Bork, not Kennedy. Because the Senate went Democrat in 1986, he didn't get him. Because Bork didn't get on the Court, we didn't get a conservative majority and instead of overturning Roe the Court reaffirmed Roe in the Casey case.

It has taken 20 years to get a second chance at a conservative majority on SCOTUS. If the Republican-bashers persuade the base to stay home this fall, the Senate will again go Democrat and we will not get another nominee like Roberts or Alito, because Presidents have to play the hand they are dealt.
