Anheuser-Busch Cos., which brews Budweiser and Bud Light, said Friday it bought the Rolling Rock beer brand from InBev USA, the U.S. subsidiary of Belgian-Brazilian brewer InBev SA, for $82 million.
Under the agreement announced by the two companies, Anheuser-Busch will use the brand to expand its portfolio of products and begin brewing Rolling Rock and Rock Green Light in August.
Meanwhile, InBev said it will sell its brewery in Latrobe, Pa., to focus its U.S. business on imported beers and is currently in discussion with potential buyers.

Rolling Buschweiser beer. Has a nice ring to it.
I went with a can of Guinness. It had a little ball that I suppose is used to create foam. Actually it creates a fizzy horrible fuzz that one needs to lick through to find
any liquid . I have encountered it before in Double Diamond , Tetley and Boddington . Awful stuff.
Hockely is a dark ale, brewed in a small brewery north west of Toronto. Much like Guinness only a bit stronger and no ball . The closest English brand I have found is London Pride.
Innes and Gunn is from Scotland. Aged in oak barrels for 40 days. One bottle is satisfaction. I think it has a touch of Scotch whiskey , maybe a hint of vanilla too.

Rolling Rock was my first beer buzz. The thing I remember most is how thin the cans were.
They had a tendency to split open if dropped.
Happened to me more than once.

I used to watch Arnold Palmer land his plane at the Latrobe Airport. Not anymore.
As a barely legal (maybe illegal) drinker oh so long ago, we called Rolling Rock skunk piss. We drank it anyway. (Now its Yuengling)
Try one on tap or from a bottle. There's something weird about the chemistry that makes Guinness from a can taste like crap.

During Football season the liquor store was selling 30 packs of Rolling Rock for 18 dollars. I wasn't a huge fan of RR but when you can buy it for the same price as Bud Light I will get the RR everytime. Especially since unlike the Bud Light here RR is full strength instead of 3.2.
Losing Rolling Rock to the A-B Behemoth is one thing.
But A-B also bought a 35% stake this week in GOOSE ISLAND !!!!! Goose Island is by far Chicago's best micro and maker of the world-class Honker's Ale.
This situation will be watched closely.

Rolling Rock has always been overrated, IMHO. No great loss here.
I find this not surprising at all. I personally recall my friends and I figuring out that it referred to the 33 words, back around 1967.
Lager is the old standby around here. But I had a party two weeks ago and decided to get a case of Yuengling's Lord Chesterfield Ale, just for the heck of it. I never had it before, and I thought it was pretty good.
The company has had a nice turnaround. When I was a kid, Yuengling was one of the "cheap" beers and it transitioned into a mid-priced to premium beer.
This is sad news. I have Rolling Rock on tap in my house. To me, it makes me think of home in PA and I like the taste - not too light, not too heavy.
This is really going to hurt that little town. Too bad Arnold couldn't come in and save the day.
Don't blame AB for purchasing it, blame InBev for selling it. They don't realize what they've done.
