No, but it is treatable. You must engage in lots and lots of sex, preferably with your spouse.

That explains why I have managed to control myself so far - all those controlled explosions...

Contrary to what some may think, I never ram or shoot people in real life.

The perpetrator of IED, Dr. Cocarro, strikes a coquettish pose.

You'd think they could at least have come up with a name that doesn't abbreviate as "IED".

But seriously, we used to put people like this in prison and keep them there. Until we have an absolutely reliable medication to control this, and an absolutely reliable way to make sure they always get their meds (think implanted drug dispensing pump), we should still put them in prison and keep them there.

I guess if you call a lack of self-control to be a disorder, then OK...

But where did that lack of self-control come from? I would wager that a large portion comes from poor home training/parenting. The remaining part is that our society of "victims" is no longer held accountable for their actions.

The very small percentage that MIGHT have some sort of mental disorder - if they cannot be "fixed" via medication, then they should be institutionalized...

I have had a pretty "colorful" temper in the past.

And, as someone who has lost his temper a few times, I would never presume to clothe my lack of self-control in the lofty terms of some "disorder."

Ecstatic, depressed, angry, cry when happy...Anyway you turn...They gotcha. But don't worry....there's therapy and they have a special pill for you. It will make you normal.....whatever the hell that it.

MOST people are normal. The views of people like this DOC are NOT normal.

If you put a name to it, you don't have to take responsibility for your misbehaviors.

Bingo.

The majority of men who engage in spousal abuse are sociopathic and could control their behavior, but about a third may suffer from IED and impulsively strike out, he said. The largest number of assaultive acts occur in interpersonal relationships, followed by social settings, home and work.

Uh, men? I've seen some women do some serious abusive exploding toward their spouses and be very abusive. Men always get such a bad rap.

I noticed this was a government study. It looks like something a University could have paid for rather than all that time and monies that go toward bitching about how Republicans are Nazis.

By the way the suggested treatment is exactly how they have been treating people in anger management programs for years, now they just came up with some name for this exclusive set of people. Notice the last line--just walk away applies to anyone, everywhere that is ready to do some damage.

Having come from a family where my dad was a rager, I can say that utilizing spiritual tools also were a great help to him. Medications just screwed with his mind even more making him more paranoid that people were trying to screw with him. These reports act like medications don't come without side effects.

There are plenty of natural God given things one can do to up their Serotonin and Dopamine levels, none of which have any side effects--although I do think getting a relaxation massage may take some money out of the pocket and meditation and prayer may take a little time out of one's day. I suppose exercise and eating right might take a concerted effort and spending time with close friends more time. Church, well that may take some gas money . . . you get the picture.
