Toba in Sumatra a candidate for super volcano ???
India Daily ^ | Jan 6 2007 | India Daily Technology Team

Posted on 01/14/2007 3:28:48 PM PST by Beowulf9

The devastating Tusnami was precursor to what is coming in 2012. Toba in Sumatra can explode 100 times more violently than what happened 74,000 years back.

The last supervolcano to erupt was Toba 74,000 years ago in Sumatra. Ten thousand times bigger than Mt St Helens, it created a global catastrophe dramatically affecting life on Earth.

Scientists now find through extrapolation cycle study that the 74,000 years back super volcano in Toba, Sumatra was the warm up for what may be coming in 2012.

Around Toba, increasing harmonic tremors have started after the Tsunami two years back.

It would devastate the planet. Climatologists now know that Toba blasted so much ash and sulphur dioxide into the stratosphere that it blocked out the sun, causing the Earth's temperature to plummet. Some geneticists now believe that this had a catastrophic effect on human life, possibly reducing the population on Earth to just a few thousand people. Mankind was pushed to the edge of extinction.

India Daily, a website apparently located in New Jersey, specializes in the posting of completely fabricated stories that cite no real sources.

They had an article about secret underground UFO bases in the Himalayas.

Toba IS a supervolcano, it DID erupt 74,000 years ago...

But there isn't the remotest sign it's about to erupt, the 2004 tsunami didn't cause any change in anything there, and there isn't the slightest indication anything would happen there in 2012.

This article is worthless garbage.

Genetic evidence suggests that Human population size fell to about 10,000 adults between 50 and 100 thousand years ago."

Only the smartest (and luckiest) survived. It was a stringent way to clean out the gene pool.

Ten thousand times bigger than Mt St Helens last time it erupted, and next time it could be 100 times more violent than that?

That particular factoid is another India Daily "made up" special. Pure nonsense. There's no indication the next eruption of Toba could be 100 times more violent than it's last eruption.

Think about it. The Neanderthals survived it. They were still around 27,000 years ago.

The last Toba eruption was about 10% bigger than the biggest eruption at Yellowstone but it was 28 times bigger than smallest Yellowstone supervolcano event.

It looks to me that this India Daily website has some fascination with a 2012 doomsday. Several other links on that page of other 2012 earth-ending disasters coming.

We can contain it by asking Tipper Gore to sit on the volcano.

I didn't understand from this article what made them choose 2012 as the year the volcano was going to explode so we'd all die.

. . .country boys can survive.

Country boys would have a hard time surviving if all the animals they might shoot are dead because all the vegetation animals eat is dead. I'm willing to admit though that country boys would be the last to die.

No, I think the people who would survive this probably are those who live on the equator already.

Like I said, they're just making up stuff, so they probably chose 2012 because it's already the end of the Maya long-count calendar which a lot of people have already heard of.

Was a frenzy of people on FR posting India Daily crap some months ago, had died down for a while. However, you see a wide variety of Apocalyptikook idiots citing "India Daily" on their websites on the internet, particularly their made-up story with a fake graph claiming there's been a massive increase in undersea volcanoes.

Not certain what is behind the fascination behind India Daily or why people don't realize they're just making up completely false stories - I think it's because the name "India Daily" sounds pretty boring and official, and they've hit upon hot-button topics to fake their stories about.

I thought it was going to be the Yellowstone supervolcano that's going to do us all in...

Sorry folks. Gotta say it:

WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!

Sooner or later.

I never heard of India Daily before, I just was searching the news for info on Sumatra volcano's. I've always thought we'd live to see Krakatoa blow again, and it's overdue but I never heard of Toba before. Sumatra is pretty volatile but I'm not a 'mayan calendar' kinda girl.

On the good side it would shut up the dems.
