here is a certain unhip hipness and hypocrisy in hillary clinton's 'I'm in.' This even without considering the "to win" she tacked on the end, a clear acknowledgement of the electability problems plaguing her candidacy.

Add to this 'laughable' and 'hopeless,' witness her video attempt at human. (Not even real human, mind you-- virtual human.) There is no way--none--to make this creature credible.

So forget 'likeable.'

The performance, oozing a cloying, saccharine-coated evil, pulsates to the metronomic swing of stubby appendages that, together with the ample corpus, always remind me of parentheses too short to contain the stuff between them. (Gesticulation is a dud's only sign of life... and then only if she has a speech coach to prod her.)

The performance is nothing if not humiliating: A direct measure of hillary clinton's hunger for power. Which reminds me... enough of that red Klingon power jacket already. Please.

"I'M IN"

No she is not.

She is INaccessible. ¹ (INane, too.) ²

The clinton machine understands well the paradox of this peculiar candidate: In order for missus clinton to have any chance of winning elections, she must all but vanish from the public stage. ³

How to do it?

THE PLAN

According to hillary, herself, the plan is to use 'technology,' by which she means 'virtual reality.' It will shield her from the risk of real questions from real people in real time and space while conferring to her an aura of accessibility. Missus clinton cannot afford a Katherine Prudhomme moment, ⁴ you see.

But the clinton machine cannot keep the candidate cosetted in cyberspace and softball venues forever. That is why this early entry, forced by Obama's meteoric rise, is missus clinton's worst nightmare.

That, and the fact that Obama will be the standard against which she will henceforth be measured. Which is not a good thing for missus clinton. Obama's charisma and blank slate are the perfect antidote to clinton's repulsiveness and baggage.

I would call missus clinton's 'I'm in' anticlimactic, but for the fact that an anticlimax requires antecedent impressiveness or consequence.

... While America appears not to be ready for a female president under any circumstances, the post-9/11 realities pose special problems for a female presidential candidate. Add to these the problems unique to missus clinton. The reviews make the mistake of focusing on the problems of the generic female presidential candidate running during ordinary times.

These are not ordinary times. America is waging the global War on Terror; the uncharted territory of asymmetric netherworlds is the battlefield; the enemy is brutal, subhuman; the threat of global conflagration is real.

Defeating the enemy isn't sufficient. For America to prevail, she must also defeat a retrograde, misogynous mindset. To successfully prosecute the War on Terror, it is essential that the collective patriarchal islamic culture perceives America as politically and militarily strong. Condi Rice excepted, this requirement presents an insurmountable hurdle for any female presidential candidate, and especially missus clinton, historically antimilitary--(an image, incidentally, that is only enhanced today by her clumsy, termagant parody of Thatcher), forever the pitiful victim, and, according to Dick Morris, "the biggest dove in the clinton administration."

It is ironic that had the clintons not failed utterly to fight terrorism... not failed to take bin Laden from Sudan... not failed repeatedly to decapitate a nascent, still stoppable al Qaeda... the generic female president as a construct would still be viable... missus clinton's obstacles would be limited largely to standard-issue clintonisms: corruption, abuse, malpractice, malfeasance, megalomania, rape and treason... and, in spite of Juanita Broaddrick, or perhaps because of her, Rod Lurie would be reduced to perversely hawking the "First Gentleman" instead of the "Commander-in-Chief."

RE: a not-so-modest proposal concerning hillary clinton

Dear Concerned Americans,

Hillary Clinton's revisionist tome notwithstanding, 'living history' begets a certain symmetry. It is in that light that I make this not-so-modest proposal on this day, exactly 64 years after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

The context of our concern today--regardless of political affiliation--is Iraq and The War on Terror, but the larger fear is that our democracy may not survive.

We have the requisite machines, power and know-how to defeat the enemy in Iraq and elsewhere, but do we have the will?

In particular, do we have the will to identify and defeat the enemy in our midst?

Answerable to no one, heir apparent in her own mind, self-serving in the extreme, Hillary Clinton incarnates this insidious new threat to our survival.

What we decide to do about Missus Clinton will tell us much about what awaits us in these perilous new times.

Hillary's announcement video is one of the most extraordinary pieces of political theatre I've ever seen. The production values were first-rate. Every word of her script was painstakingly crafted. The modulation of her voice, her head-nodding and her hand gestures were carefully controlled for effect. The swaying camera movement seems to be intricately synchronized with her script to evoke a sense of warmth, intimacy, sentimentality and sycophantic agreement in the viewer. This is a far more sophisticated piece of political propaganda than Harry Thomason ever produced.

It precedes them: IRS audits (Where IS that unredacted Barrett Report already... and why was it REALLY redacted in the first place?), raw FBI files, trashed reputations, intimidation--both verbal and physical, and, oh yes, the deaths. It matters not one whit whether each and every item on this list is true. That it could be true is sufficient threat: Perception--reputation--IS reality.

So it is not surprising that it took the better part of a year for the Left to summon the courage to dump hillary. Dumping hillary is not a reversible act, you see. Dump hillary and you're on her hit list. For life. Yours... which won't be long and happy if hillary retakes the White House and her repertoire of revenge is for real....

So dumping hillary is not your ordinary finger-in-the-air, go-with-the-flow tactical maneuver. It is a lifetime commitment.

Chris Matthews, David Geffen, Mike McCurry and Leon Panetta were on the front lines making that commitment. They had the guts to dump hillary before dumping hillary was de rigueur.

It is not that they understood hillary clinton is a dud and everyone else on the Left did not. Everyone knows hillary clinton is a dud. It is that they put loyalty to party above loyalty to the clintons, and had the courage to act on that loyalty.

But now that "hillary clinton is not electable" is the conventional wisdom and dumping hillary is the Democrat plat du jour, all the weak-kneed, Bush-hating Leftists--which is virtually everyone to the left of John McCain (and would include John McCain except for the fact that he trounces her in the polls)--will join the dump-hillary ranks and the dump-hillary movement will grow exponentially from this day forth....

Heading up health-care reform was the only major administrative job she has ever tried to do. And she was a complete flop at it. She had neither the grasp of policy substance, the managerial skills, nor the political smarts to do the job she was then given. And she wasn't smart enough to realize that she was in over her head and had to get out of the Health Care Czar role quickly.... there is no reason to think that she would be anything but an abysmal president.

illary clinton's equal and inapposite reactions seem to be, at first blush, instances of the immutable First Law of The Betrayed and Humiliated Wife: Outdo the errant hubby's doxy...at all cost.

Thus, Vanity Fair's glamorous Marilyn-Monroe spread of Monica's digitally reduced spread was answered by Vogue's lushly Elizabethan, gauzy-focus, hindquarter-cropped-pleated-and-flounced, Queen-hillary-for-President cover.

And now we have hillary clinton doing a Martha Stewart, who herself, is purported to have been "done" by the aforementioned errant rogue (notwithstanding the plain fact that Martha is more well-known for her tarts than for being one).

Seems hillary clinton is now writing a book titled "An Invitation to the White House" in which she will follow the format of the Martha Stewart classic, "Entertaining", claim multifarious Martha-Stewart talents and wrap her indecorous and corrupt, backwoods, backroom style of White House "entertaining" in Martha-Stewart elegance and purity. (NB: Written years before Martha ImPloded.)

"The clinton White House has been noted for the...innovation of its events," said Carolyn Reidy, president of Simon & Schuster's (aptly named) Trade Division, the book's publisher.

hillary clinton's spokeswoman, Marsha Berry, added that the book will focus on how the clintons have "advanced the availability" of the White House by increasing the number and diversity of people; that it will "highlight the access that the clintons have given to more people, more types of entertainment..."

It should be emphasized that it was without even a trace of irony or the slightest smirk that both women related the above.

On closer inspection, hillary clinton's bizarre behavior is more than simple Ivana Trump-eting. It is vulgar, compulsive, shameless, smarmy, contemptuous, demagogic, megalomaniacal, in-your-face naked clintonism.

It is one thing for the frumpy, chipmunk-cheek, huge-hindquarter fishwife to insinuate her image -- albeit Elizabethan-shrouded and low-res-clouded -- onto the cover of Vogue; but it is quite another for the corrupt harpy to trumpet White House access even as new charges emerge of the clintons' rapes and other predations, of the clintons' corrupt quid-pro-quo arrangements with a menacing and motley assortment of drug dealers, gun runners and nuclear weapons makers.
