WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Democratic-controlled House issued a symbolic rejection of President Bush's decision to deploy more troops to Iraq on Friday, opening an an epic confrontation between Congress and commander in chief over an unpopular war that has taken the lives of more than 3,100 U.S. troops.

The vote on the nonbinding measure was 246-182.

Resolution criticized President Bush for his decision to send more troops to Iraq is a rare admonishment of a wartime commander-in-chief.

"The passage of this legislation signal a change in direction that will end the fighting and bring our troops home," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said before the vote when she endorsed the measure that takes issue with Bush's decision to send an additional 21,500 U.S. troops into battle.

Perhaps some want to make certain IF or When we are attacked on a large scale we actually have a military left to fight with and money left to fund it?

.......er, let's see now........do you think they mean, "Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes"? Seems like I've heard that one before. Along with "conserve your ammo, keep your powder dry, blah, blah, blah".

Doesn't work for me.

It doesn't mean they are anti-war if a nation attacks the USA either. Perhaps some want to make certain IF or When we are attacked on a large scale we actually have a military left to fight with and money left to fund it?

Right. Let's wait until we're attacked. Then fight back.

Today's word game:

From wikipedia:

Copperheads nominally favored the Union but they strongly opposed the war, for which they blamed abolitionists, and they demanded immediate peace and resisted the draft laws. They wanted Lincoln and the Republicans ousted from power, seeing the president as a tyrant who was destroying American republican values with his despotic and arbitrary actions

Some Copperheads tried to persuade Union soldiers to desert. They talked of helping Confederate prisoners of war seize their camps and escape. They sometimes met with Confederate agents and took their money. The Confederacy encouraged their activities whenever possible. [1] Most Democratic party leaders, however, repelled Confederate advances.

PRESTO!

DEMOCRATS nominally favored the TROOPS but they strongly opposed the war, for which they blamed GEORGE BUSH, and they demanded immediate peace and ATTEMPTED TO RE-INSTATE the draft laws. They wanted BUSH and the Republicans ousted from power, seeing the president as a tyrant who was destroying American LIBERAL values with his despotic and arbitrary actions.

Some DEMOCRATS tried to persuade US soldiers to desert. They talked of helping ISLAMIC prisoners of war seize their camps and escape.(WITH THE AID OF THE ACLU) They sometimes met with ISLAMIC agents and took their money. The ISLAMIC JIHADISTS encouraged their activities whenever possible. [1] Most Democratic party leaders, however, repelled JIHADIST advances.

"Most"...but not "all"...

Democrats...wrong 150 years ago...wrong today...

Right. Let's wait until we're attacked. Then fight back.

One of his {Duncan's} points is we are spending ourself into a debt in Iraq we may not be able to recover from. That would include not being able to fund future defense programs and or pay veterans benefits to those wounded in action. Read it for yourself. A person may or may not agree 100% but he makes good Conservative sense that should be considered.

14 Republicans signed the Surrender Resolution.

Vote for a liberal, you'll get liberalism.
Don't vote (D/L). Don't vote (R/L). Don't vote for a letter of the alphabet.
Vote for a philosophy.
Vote for a Conservative, and you'll get Conservatism.

I guess you don't know Ron Paul very well. He's been against Iraq from the start. He's right, too. A true American patriot.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but anyone who voted yes for this ridiculous, political grand-standing GARBAGE is no patriot. A patriot doesn't stab American Soldiers in the back. Ron Paul and the rest of them who went along with this "resolution" did just that.

May I suggest to everyone here that the most effective way to get your message across to to these (bad words self censored so as not to get removed by an Admin) is to send good old-fashioned snail-mail. E-mail just pretty much gets dumped right into the ole bit-bucket, phone calls may just get a tick off on a positive or negative column, but a letter has to be handled, opened and read by somebody. It is regarded by business professionals as the medium of communication most likely to be noticed. According to a Capitol Hill switchboard operator, they routinely get to their destination in a matter of a few days, no more waiting several weeks like it was in the period right after the anthrax letters.

Please, take to time to write a letter & get it in the mail.

Yeah, PeLOSE-i, it's a signal all right. If I was in with the islamokazis, I would be breaking open a fresh jar of goat's milk and drinking a toast to the 110th congress. They've set no doubt that there's a political division to be exploited by enemies the world over.

This is the closest they can and will ever get to impeachment. that's the game they are playing and if the Republican party doesn't get it's act together, they will count one less member in me.

Lexicon Should be "troop reinforcement"

I refuse to use the term surge. The dems use lexicons such as "escalation". Well, from now on Im using "troop reinforcement" when posting in newsgroups and Freerepublic and that's exactly what the dems and some republicans are voting against in their 'non-binding' message.

You notice how many of these cagey phony b****ds make sure that you can't email them? No problem. I spend the little bit of money it costs to call their offices and tell the hack who answers:

"You are working for a coward and a traitor to our country. For God's sake and your own, go find a person of integrity to answer phones for."

Wait a minute, what on God's earth did you think Democracy was if it's not mob rule?!! The majority(50.1% or greater) forces the rest to do what they think is right. That's a mob governing/ruling the rest of the population. Immanuel Kant said it best, but I doubt most of you know whom that is.

"Democracy is necessarily despotism, as it establishes an executive power contrary to the general will; all being able to decide against one whose opinion may differ, the will of all is therefore not that of all: which is contradictory and opposite to liberty." --written in 1795

Oh No!! You wrote him?!! I'm sure he'll change his mind now because you wrote a nasty letter. Their interns "read" the letters. It's better than nothing, but politicians do what they want. He may not have done your will. He probably did the will of the majority that voted for him and then again he may have just done HIS will. You might as well send him a letter saying thanks and I voted for you because you had an (R) next to your name.

What ticks me off is that they go through with this circus act and make themselves proud and still offer nothing to the American people of what to do about the WOT. They offer no real courage because these are the very same people who are ruthless on the abortion issue and have no moral compass for themselves or to lead this country in a time of war!
