A balanced and reasonable response....imprisonment would hardly make the accuser's life worse, though I must say a felony conviction would at least remove her from the voter rolls.

For the supposed 'grown-ups' in this mess, like Nifong, and Duke, one can only fell utter contempt.

It won't really be great news until Nifong is disbarred. I am happy that one of the mothers didn't seem to want to move on. She had vengance in her eyes. At least, Nifong may be tied up in civil suits the rest of his natural life.

Yeah, but not like this one. This was a beaut with every caricature imagineable out in full display: Lunatic Left Professors in an uproar, insane residents, people so Low Class they make the Lower Classes look like aristocrats, the Black Panthers, lol all that is missing is Tom Hayden.

"In her case though, my own anger is preempted by horror and pity."

What you are saying here is that you care more about her than about the Duke Lax players. You seem to think she is a victim somehow, when in relaity she is the one who has brought trouble upon herself with her own choices.

Just because someone has messed up their life doesn't mean we give them a break when they go out of their way to mess up other people's lives.

I see your point, but what about Jesse Jackson giving her a free ride through college , regardless of how her case turns out? Granted, she couldn't anticipate that, but I do recall her "friend" giving a statement to the media in which she claimed the accuser had boasted soon after the "rape" that she was going to get a lot of money from some "white boys." If that's true, then she's less a troubled young woman than a manipulative conniving creature who made false statements primarily for financial gain .

I don't see her being punished. I DO see her using JJ's money to get her degree, and I also expect she will find a ghost writer who'll write a book about the case, in which she'll be a Poor Downtrodden Victim of a Racist Legal system. IOW, she'll be well set for life, thanks to her lies.

I guess I don't feel much pity for her because there's a real possibility that this case's worst fallout is yet to be seen....

I don't think this is true; the accuser was just interviewed today.

Fox reported that her family said she was summoned to speak to them today, they said that it is very possible they were telling her ahead of time that the charges would be dropped, I think it should have been to tell her SHE was being charged, even though Shep said the maximum penalty in NC for falsely accusing rape is a $500 fine. Her family says she is wanting the charges dropped so she can move on with her life....barf.

So little time, so many victims.

I hope those boys and their families turn around and sue every single person they can in Durham.

Where do they go to get their reputation back?

I personally think that any suit against Duke itself has little chance of winning.

I totally disagree.

The University not only allowed 88 sitting professors to attack these young men, there is evidence some members of the Duke University administration encouraged it through e-mails, phone calls, and the posting of flyers on campus. There are records that their lawyers will demand from the University. Count on it.

Secondly, the University had an obligation to treat these young men and the entire team as innocent until proved guilty before the law. They didn't. On the contrary, it will be argued that Duke conspired to deny them their civil rights and due process.

The University will try to argue it was just complying with the DA and the local police, but they can only play that game so far - especially since the DA is now going down for unethical and illegal practices!

Third, the University had an obligation to be an advocate for students under the care of an institution that the parents paid big, big bucks for. The University threw them to the wolves.

I am sure their player's lawyers and the parents have had plenty of time to think of scores of other reasons to rightfully sue Duke.

Believe me, they will. The Endowment of Duke is in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

The accuser and Nifong have no money. Nifong wanted to get reelected to secure his pension. He won't ever see a dime.

The psycho accuser could get charged for perjury and filing a false police report. I think that may happen, but a lawsuit against her would be financially unproductive.

How touching, she wants to move on with her life. Does she think the young men have been able to move on? This woman s/b locked up, so she does not try this again. She tried a similar thing some years ago when she was a teenager. She has serious problems that s/n be inflicted on the rest of society. A trip to Dorothea Dix (that is the local state mental institution) will do for starters.

She has cost Durham County, the state and worst of all the young men a boatload of money.

Where do they go to get their reputations back?

Duke has a huge piece of crow to eat, expensive crow if I had my way. The professors involved have best moved all their assets into someone else's name a long time ago.

I better hush now before I tell you all what I really think of this "ballsed up mess"! Don't get a Southern woman riled, we all have a bit of Scarlett O'Hara in us. ;-)

"They should argue that in court, but in practice I don't think it's true.
I wouldn't recognize any of their names."

They and their families have been put through hell! All because of a lying whore and a despicable DA and his crew!

I guess she doesn't know what to do without Nifong on her side....I hope she never moves on with her life. She doesn't deserve it.
