My point mirrors yours. Every analysis that, at this point, comes to a conclusion about whether a mistake was made starts by knowing what the outcome was, a luxury not available to the guys making the decision at the time. And, for each scenario where taking an action might have helped the current outcome, it’s possible to construct one where taking that same action would have been the wrong thing to do. For example, if they’d cancelled classes and the guy had shot up any of those thousands of nearby student apartments, killing students who would have been in class if it hadn’t been cancelled, we’d be hearing questions about that.

It’s too early to make any decisions about fault other than that of the guy with the guns. And it’s always too early to assign blame by starting with a known outcome and then reasoning backwards instead of placing yourself in the same situation authorities were in at the moment it occurred and limiting your knowledge to what they knew. One of the things they knew is that there are thousands of incidents around the country of jilted lovers shooting their significant others then running for the hills. The number of those incidents that result in the suspect going nuts and shooting up a school approaches, if not equals, zero. Until today...

This isn’t a high school. It’s a huge campus with a huge student population. Between students and faculty and staff there are probably more than 30,000 on campus.

Yep. There is way too much lack of, or distorted info everywhere right now. If we find out there was negligence or poor judgement on the part of LE, there will be plenty of time to learn. Right now, it’s hard to even KNOW what happened, we only know the result.

PRESS CONF ON NOW.

Lots of puzzle pieces don’t seem to fit at all, much less snuggly.

Thx.

It's gonna take a while to process than many bodies and crime scenes.

Can you imagine the parents who know their kids were attending class in those rooms? They must want to be breaking the doors down.

"I saw some airsofts on the internet (M60 replicas) That were selling for over a grand!! I never got into airsofts but some of them are pretty good looking detail wise."

Sounds like Tokyo Marui or one of the other high-end brands. Mine are just cheap knockoffs from China, but they look and work great. (Got them on eBay)

Everyone wants all the answers to everything right now. A horrific crime, and they want the investigation wrapped within a few hours with no details in dispute.

Hell, file the lawsuits against the university tomorrow! Let’s hold senate hearings on why the press conference wasn’t more informative!

We demand complete unvarnished truth right this minute, or we’re sure a coverup is already underway.

Never mind how many hundred people need to be interviewed, including those who might not be able to talk at the moment since they have a bullet in their gut.

Never mind that they don’t seem to know for sure who the shooter was, much less the motive.

We demand answers now. 12 hours is far too long to conduct an investigation.

If there is a murderer on the loose in a small city anywhere in America, should we "lock the town down"?

How exactly do you do that?

I didn't advocate "locking the town down". I'm saying it would be better to have civil-defense-like sirens that can be heard throughout the area. People would have prior training on what to do when the alarm sounds: duck, cover---and stay hidden until the all-clear signal!

I was reacting to the university president's going on and on about how sophisticated their notice system is with all it's email, text message capability. It doesn't take a high tech system to warn people. Especially people who might be asleep or away from their device.

OTH, if the administrators are too dumb to even USE the system, it matters little what that system is.

In hindsight, I’m sure they regret that they did not. However, they were first under the impression that it WAS a domestic situation. I’m sure this happens way more often than people even know, so there would be no reason to shut down a campus of that size (26,000 students) - it’s like a small city, if you think about it.

I’m sure this event will change how things are done in the future. Maybe they won’t be so quick to conclude what kind of “situation” they have, as they did here.

And not a damn one of them could be legally armed. By liberal edict, and feel good legislation, the damn government restricted the ability for willing, armed, law-abiding citizens to possibly either stop, or mitigate the carnage.

I spit on gun grabbers and liberals.

Purely tongue in cheek for you--you and I seem to be in complete agreement on this. I probably could have directed all of my comments to ts alone, but since I was trying to agree with what you were saying, I pinged you as well.

No harm, no foul.

Why would a gunman with a specific personal target kill that person then wait 2 hours to rampage and massacre people he did not know?

Act of passion, followed by killings on the way out.

I didn’t even think about that but you just know the guy has to go into damage control mode or his school could lose out big-time with enrollment next Fall.

"There was never any engagement between the gunman and police."

That says a lot.

But I can well imagine a party with a bunch of out of control drunk students and a couple of guns.

I can imagine lots of things. Doesn't make 'em real.
