“Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. “I’m sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly’s actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus.”

The bill:
HB 1572, which would have allowed handguns on college campuses, died in subcommittee.

This tragic event WILL be used to push the NEW AWB and further gun control legislation...

IT SHOULD DO JUST THE OPPOSITE!

The gun grabbers are going to be out in force on tonight’s news. Batten down the hatches.

What is interesting are the news people are saying when police showed up, they were trying to figure out who or where the bad guy was, yet they clearly have video/audio of lots of shots being fired. It would seem to me, all they had to do was follow the sound of the rounds being fired.

Aren’t most places where there are a lot of people in a relatively small area ‘gun free zones’? What would a similar ‘non-gun free zone’ be, other than maybe a gunshow or shooting range.

*snort*

And you can bet that neither Hincker nor anyone else involved in pushing HB1572 feels there's a single drop of blood on their hands today.

Let him repeat that to the families of the slaughtered students today.

Looks like the SWAT team couldn’t save anyone. They raced to the scene with their bullet-proof vests and automatics weapons and proceeded to hide behind cars in the parking lot while the unarmed students were left to fend for themselves - for more than 2 hours - against a heavily armed gunman.

Makes you wonder if they're transfers from the Columbine Police/SWAT Dept.

Fistfights would become gunfights. Insane.

Bullsh!t. You anti-gunners claim this every time the right to carry is expanded, and it hasn't happened yet.

Their first and foremost responsibility is to ensure that no police get hurt. SWAT teams are great at kicking in doors for 90 year old black ladies and killing them, but real danger? Try to avoid that.

Only in "non-CCW" states. In states that allow CCW, there might be an armed person almost anywher except where specifically prohibited (like schools!!!!). Case in point was the recent shootings in a Washington (state) mall. Unfortunately, this dumbass gun-owner HELD HIS FIRE because the shooter was a juvenile, got shot for his trouble, and is now paralyzed. He should have just SHOT the little bastard.

I'm sure they don't. To liberals GUNS are the only problem, not deranged killers. It wasn't the killer who killed these people, but the fact that he could get a gun. To pond scum like sara brady and diane Feinstein, this is proof positive that there should be total and complete civilian disarmament in the USA (You probably think I'm kidding)

College students age 18 to 22 running around campus armed with handguns? There would be far more killed and injured than what happened at VA Tech. Based on my own college experience, I would hate to think what would happen. Fistfights would become gunfights. Insane.

Possibly one of the most ignorant posts I've seen here EVER. You're post sounds just like the statements by the guns banners that Detroit would become a free fire zone if shall-issue passed in Michigan. The law passed, and no free fire zone resulted.

BTW, how old do you think most of our troops are? Last I checked, they carry guns. Do you think the rules for carrying are different for 18 to 22 year olds? The penalties for using a firearm improperly? Can 18 to 22 year olds drive (cars kill far more than firearms every year)?

You post is the pinacle of feeling-based abject stupidity. (Note to mod: I'm criticizing the post, NOT the poster.)

Here's a line from the NYPost

FBI spokesman Richard Kolko in Washington said there was no evidence to suggest it was a terrorist attack, "but all avenues will be explored."

How quickly they jump on that phrase.

“Based on my own college experience”

Really? And exactly how many shootings have you witnessed. When I was in school in Ohio, students had guns in gun racks and I never saw a shooting.

“Fistfights would become gunfights”

The only thing insane here is your logic. EVERYWHERE concealed carry has passed, crime is reduced. Believe it or not people are intelligent enough to tell the difference between a fight and a killing.

“This guy was allowed to shoot unarmed people for over 2 hours.”

I don’t think that the shooting went on for two hours. I heard that there was a two hour gap between the first shooting, on one side of the campus, and the second. The police and SWAT team were on the opposite side of the campus looking for a suspect in the first shooting, when they got word of the second event. The campus, at 2,600 acres is quite big, or seems so to me at least.

If you’re not an idiot, then you’ve been watching too much TV. Cops are trained to methodically advance on the threat. Tactics are used to minimize the threat to victims and law enforcement alike. It would do no good to turn a tragic situation into a more tragic one. How would you react to the cops charging in “guns ablazin’”, wounding and killing innocents?

They already are - just not LEGALLY. Good luck with getting lawbreakers to willingly obey the law...

Good point. The last report I read was that the second round of shooting lasted only a couple minutes. Two hour gap between the two rounds, not two hours of shooting.
