Social conservatives bite bullet, back Rudy [his backers pray]
Politico ^ | May 28, 2007 | David Paul Kuhn

Rudy Giuliani, whose positions on abortion and homosexuality mark him as the most socially liberal Republican presidential candidate in more than a generation, is so far winning the contest for the support of social conservatives, according to a new analysis of recent polls.

Widespread perceptions that Giuliani is the most electable Republican in this year's field are driving his support among social conservatives, according to the analysis by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life.

If the trend holds, this apparent willingness to support a candidate who fails what were once regarded as litmus-test issues would mark a landmark shift in the political behavior of a constituency that has been a pillar of the modern GOP. Already the shift is spurring sharp debate among prominent Christian conservative leaders, some of whom warn that Giuliani backers are abandoning core principles.

“No, they do not.”

Dittos here. I’ll go third party or not vote rather than vote for a lib. I’m not a GOPer, I’m a conservative. We don’t need another lib like Bush either.

Let’s see, Clinton, a NY lib. Guilani, a NY lib, Bloomburg, a NY lib. We are really getting screwed up in this country.

I agree Bruce, but I don’t think any of the big 3 can tale the White House. Too many do not support them. Why the RNC is not promoting the conservatives in the primary is beyond me.

Yes I have, the way that this cycle is shaping up, Hunter may to mild to send the message that needs to be sent to Capital Hill and 1600 PA Ave.

If Hunter could make it through Iowa and NH, I would love to vote for him.

What a load of crap! They are misreading the base on Rudy just like they are missing it on the amnesty bill. The GOP better get their heads out of their @sses or they will be in for a very rude awakening! This is a promise, not a threat!

“The perfect is not the enemy of the good,” he says, arguing that Giuliani is still significantly closer to social conservatives on key issues than leading Democrats. After all, Land adds, social conservatives “understand they are voting for commander in chief, not Baptist in chief.”

I am voting for commander in chief, not Satan’s foot soldier!

“How is Duncan doing?”

Duncan Hunter is doing great! Do you know that when you build a skyscraper, you can spend months building the foundation and it appears that nothing has been accomplished. But all of a sudden, the base is built and the building seems to be built over night! Everyone is totally amazed because they hadn’t been paying attention the most important part. Building the foundation! Just wait!

“I love my country way too much to deliberately allow her in by voting 3rd party. Country over political party anyday. And that’s what 3rd party voters and stay at homers don’t get. “

I believe we all love our country, but I love my God more than I love my country. And as I love my God, My Heavenly Father, I could never in good conscience vote for anyone who finds abortions acceptable. The truth is that you and those who agree with you don’t get it!

But, I protest, Republicans are stupid by nature. I never expect them to oppose the Democrats. They want to be invited to all the parties. I am not surprised only 3 Rs voted against her.

I thought Rudy might have a chance, but I realized, even if he won, the libtards would bring up the Kerik connection and probably a million other tiny things. Coupled with his past left-wingish statements, its clear he should bow out.

All the information about Rooty Tooty's morals or shall I say, "lack of morals" hasn't got out, but when it does, Christians will drop him like a hot potato!

He may not be running for pope, but I expect him not to be a shill for abortionists or a gun grabber. Rudy gets my vote approximately the same time hell freezes over. RINOs can kiss my butt. I wish the media would stop trying to anoint this creep. He’s a “republican” like Hitlery is “compassionate and warm.”

We have a few ‘genuine’ conservatives running now.

But none none that would be considered top contenders.
