MONTGOMERY, Ala. Session-long tensions in the Alabama Senate boiled over Thursday as Republican Sen. Charles Bishop of Jasper punched Democratic Sen. Lowell Barron of Fyffe in the head before the two were pulled apart.
The 69-year-old Bishop said he punched Barron, 65, in the head after the senator called him a "son of a bitch."
"I responded to his comment with my right hand," Bishop said.

My continued FR membership forbids me from saying what I want to say...
Why stop at just one? ;^)
Crap! Bayliving beat me on that one!
Notice, like a true pantiewaist male 'rat, instead of Barron defending himself like a man, the wimp is thinking about filing charges.
Bishop 08!
The excuse that "It's an Alabama thing you wouldn't understand and we're proud of it" sounds...well, to be blunt, ignorant and childish.
Next time, please kick him in the family jewels.
Thanks for the clip, looks like he caught him right on the jaw. Maybe he will think twice before insulting someones mom now.
If folks out of state knew how crooked Lowell Barron and his cronies really are, they would ask....’why just a single punch?’
The excuse that “It’s an Alabama thing you wouldn’t understand and we’re proud of it” sounds...well, to be blunt, ignorant and childish.”
Like the man said, mikeus_maximus, it’s an Alabama thing that you apparently don’t understand.
By the way, Mikeus, when was the last time you called a man a son-of-a-bitch?
Be careful watch you call a man's mother.
LOL!!
My dad was born and raised in Alabama.. When he was 75 a man called him a liar (a mechanic over a bad repair). The much younger man ended up with a bloody nose and a black eye. Yes, the police were called, but they believed my Dad..
and, yes, I’m quite proud of him...
I have to add, he was the epitome of a ‘southern gentleman’, but he would always defend a woman and his honor (in that order).. He’d have made a grand Texan.
If it was the other way around you can bet the headline would be "Democrat Defends Himself From Republican Verbal Attack."
Ding ding ding...
In the right corner, from Alabama, weighing in at 2 terms as state Senator...
Chaaaaaarles Bishooooooooop!!!
Ding ding ding...
And in the left corner, from New York City, weighing in at 6 years as Councilman...
Charles "Slappy" Baaaaaaaaaaarrooooooon!!!

It really makes me shake my head when I read some of the comments that are made regarding this. This dimwit assaulted another man because he was called a name. I’m sure if I was in his shoes that I would feel the urge to strike out also, but I wouldn’t. It’s called self restraint, something this guy is obviously lacking in.
He is not the kind of person we need in a position of power. People like this are easily manipulated to the detriment of their party and associates. He is not worthy of the position he is in and he should be replaced by a Republican who has self control.
Sittin (readin this) Bull
For the most part, I would agree. But I think most of the reactions stem from sheer frustration...and by this I mean typically when Dims say “jump” our “conservative” Rep’s and senators say “how high?”
I think the double standard that conservatives are expected to follow the Marquess of Queensbury to the letter and that libs can act like jackasses leads to a lot of those types of respones. Anyway, thats how I see it.
