3rd Annual TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot
TheMom | TheMom

Posted on 06/20/2007 5:36:02 PM PDT by TheMom

Hi Everyone! I know this is really early, but I thought this would give everyone a chance to make plans & start saving pennies for the trip.

The 2008 shoot will be held May 3rd, at Schwenkes Gun Range (4407 FM 1069) in Aransas Pass, Texas (35 miles SE of Corpus Christi. The cost will be $15.00 per person.

Schwenkes is a private gun range, that charges its members $50.00/year. I met with Mr. Schwenkes today, he said since “I seem like a nice lady”, he would allow us to use his range. He also said if I would give him the time we will be there, he would close the range to his members. He smiled as he said the following, “This range is for members only, some may complain, but I own the darn thing and can make up the rules as I go along.”. I am thinking 10:00 – 2:00. Let me know if you think it should be longer or shorter.

There are only two rules set in stone; 1) pick up your brass and deposit it in a tub at the end of the shooting area, and 2) when shooting at the rifle range aim at the mounds, there are cows in the area and he doesn’t want them dead! The maximum target distance on the rifle range is 200 yards.

For our Memorial Shoot attendees that do not shoot, there are lots of tourists stuff for you to do so you want be bored at the range. The U.S.S. Lexington tour is awesome, Padre Island (Port Aransas) is always fun to cruise and Rockport is right around the corner.

Food & fun will follow at Deer Camp South after the shoot.

The trailer at DCS will sleep about 8ish people, if anyone wants to sleep there. If you are a camping type person, you can pitch a tent in the yard or if you have a camper, you can park it in the yard. For those that like luxury lodging, there are several hotels in Aransas Pass and the surrounding area (Rockport, Port Aransas and Ingleside) and Corpus Christi is 35 miles away. To get to Port Aransas you will have to ride the ferry ~ a whopping 5 minute trip (the wait in line may be a bit longer). MAJOR BIT OF ADVICE - - Choose a major hotel/motel chain when you pick your lodging!

The closer it gets to the date of the shoot, the more I will go into details.

I was told (1) the game warden would not come out unless the thing was in the “yard”, and (2) it is illegal to shoot them.

That pretty well sums up the mindset that causes my "attitude" against government. "We won't do anything, but you can't either". Illegal immigration is the first example that comes to mind.

DCS is in a non-core county.

Looks like alligator may be on the menu in May.

Fried gator is real good too.

He looks about a four footer, yield maybe 25-30 pounds of meat.

What is your firearm of choice in rifle and pistol? There is a good probability that I have one.

“Ya don’t have to FEED the darn things already! EGAD!”

We will just tie Eaker to a stake near the lake and take away his weapons. I would guess that the gator verses Eaker would be just about a 50-50 contest.

Allegra, we will have some .40s&w's and a sweet .357 Magnum handgun.

Can any one bring a .22 rifle for some of the ladies?

I like pistols that fit my hands well like the Glock or Browning. That damn Beretta I get issued overseas took a while to get used to handling, but I'm used to it now. In fact, it's the only one I'm used to at this point, so I want to shoot some different stuff.

I've never shot rifles much except on ranges a few times. I ike to shoot 'em, though. The AK is fun except it's so heavy and I've shot an M4.

I'll bring whatever ammo I need to bring.

Looking forward to meeting you!

I think Eaker has Glocks.
I will bring a couple of 45s one of them is a Springfield Ultra that is quite small. Also a Browning Parabellem 9mm. If you can shoot that Berreta the Browning will be no problem. Long guns will be M1-Garand, AR-15, a Winchester bolt action.223 with a bull barrel, and an SKS 7.62-39.

Do not worry about ammo. You have been our eyes and ears on the ground in the green zone and that is payment enough.

If Eaker shoots my Garand stand back 20 feet. They explode when he shoots them.

I wasn't sure I was bringing my 7.62x51 and/or my shotgun. NOw I think I'll bring the shotgun, with slugs and buckshot loads. Trouble is, the shotgun has no sights... so I'd better bring the Battle Rifle too.

Be good if that SOCOM M1A shows up too, that old boy might have friends.. :)

NYTexan and I have alreday arranged for you to shoot my Ruger 10/22, a .22 rifle. You can shoot the Ruger 22/45, a .22 pistol, if you’d like, Frou can as well.

I would thing predatory critters would be legal to shoot

Just like with the two legged variety, only if they are trying to prey on you or yours.

Ya'll should have seen them last summer when it was raining, they were constantly getting run over on the highway.

In all other counties (‘non-core’), the open season is from April 1 through June 30.

Guess we oughta have at least one person with a huntin license then. I bet Humble has one. Probably others too.

I'll bring the 10/22 rifle and the 22/45 pistol. The 10/22 has got to be feeling pretty neglected. Can't remember the last time I, or anyone, shot it. The 22/45 has been shot, and it's a couple of decades newer. :)
