But something has changed. I don’t know if it’s an industry change in the way they get cleaned or if imports are the issue, but most shrimp I eat now don’t have much taste.

I guess those tasteless $10 2 lb frozen bags of 16-20 in the supermarket are on the way out. Probably a good idea.

Walmart won't go out of business if Chinese imports are banned. Walmart has the most flexible and responsive supply chain in the world. They sell Chinese goods because Chinese consumers choose cheap Chinese goods over more expensive domestic ones.

If Chinese goods get banned, Walmart will find another source for the goods. There will be temporary shortages that will hurt retail businesses, and people will likely end up paying more for the goods which will drive up inflation and possibly retard sales because consumers will be able to afford less, but it isn't going to be any worse for Walmart than for other retailers. If anything I would expect that Walmart would do better than their competitors because they have generally shown themselves to adapt to changes in their supply chain more quickly.

This is a great personal policy. Many areas have local Farmer’s Markets for great deals on locally grown produce. We have sought out and found suppliers locally of various consumables.

Disclaimer: We make all our own meals from scratch, no boxed anything, and only canned or frozen from reliable sources goes into anything we make for ourselves. We also make all our own breads, pies, cookies, cakes etc. utilizing many ingredients we grow here at the ranch.

The objective is to know what is in what we consume, as well home grown, fresh local, made from scratch tastes so much better than all that prepared stuff available at the Supermarkets.

Agreed. But I’m still wondering as far as food goes, how are we supposed to know where it came from, if distributors don’t have to list it? I’ll bet there are plenty of these fish in the stores and restaurants already.

I can't tell you the going rate right now, but we're headed for the coast this afternoon to see my son graduate from Navy Sea Cadet training so I'll be able to tell you soon . . . .

. . . . but last summer when I bought some off the dock it was a buck or two a pound through the sorter and 50 c. a pound if they just shoveled your bucket full. Of course, that really cheap pound includes sticks, seaweed, dead fish, and unidentifiable marine life along with the shrimp!

I know what you’re saying, I spent many summers on Colonels Island back in the 70’s. I didnt realize there was still shrimp to be had there.

That's why I said that we've got to anticipate and compensate for the unintended consequences. Don't chuck the old system until the new one is up and running.

Yes, and it may not be a bad thing at all. A country that doesn't produce anything doesn't have a good economic foundation. PLUS - I can see the quality of most products slipping from year to year. (But the prices don't). We have a 50 year old American_made sleeper sofa that's in better shape than most 5 year old sofas. Everything made these days seems to be made to be disposable.
