I'm not going to call Bill O'Reilly a liar... yet, but...

Posted on 07/31/2007 8:35:37 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

I'm not going to call Bill O'Reilly a liar... yet, but... on his TV show today, he read off a laundry list of ridiculous "hate" statements like "I hate blacks," "Hillary should be assassinated" and "homosexuals are dogs" that he said he personally found on Free Republic and claims that they were posted here today. I do not believe that. I doubt that he personally logged on to FR and I doubt he found any such thing posted here today.

Who knows what we may have missed and is buried deep in our archives of millions of posts, but our readers do a pretty good job of alerting us to anything out of bounds that is posted and we pull it. Also, one of our readers found a couple of the quotes he alleges, and if they are the ones O'Reilly is complaining about, he took them way out of context. They were simply quotes in the articles posted not statements posted by FReepers.

As soon as he provides me a list of the alleged posts and their URLs, I'll believe him. If he doesn't... then... well, guess he'll deserve to be known as what he is.

What I am trying to understand is why he singled this website out and the way it was presented on TV it was as if all you had to do was point and click and you would see these’s posts.

AN irate moonbat from Kos called his radio show and asked him why he was singling out DailyKos when "right wing hate groups like FreeRepublic" were much worse. Like a good armadillo splattered on the center line of life O'Reilly went with the FR hate theme. He really is a shallow fellow.

I agree, I doubt very much if he logged onto FR to see for himself. It’s very possible that his staff isn’t doing their homework informing Mr. O’Reilly about FR. When I tune into O’Reilly, I get the thrust of the program from the git-go. The day I heard him talking about Jet Blue and Daily Kos, whammo! there’s Freerepublic representing the other end of the hate spectrum. In my mind (not to mention two perfectly tuned ears) what he said was offensive to me and others as well. As I posted a few days ago, Freepers are just about as main stream as they come. I’ve met them, I’ve participated in rallies in Kansas City in support of the site. Some days I can’t take 2 hrs of O’Reilly. But the gap between Rush & Savage leaves me only two choices: O’Reilly Radio Factor or Hannity (aka concert promoter and GM Cadillac Escalade expert and spokesman). Thanks Jim for addressing this topic. I stand by my post and my comments.

I’m not going to speculate. I can’t nor do I think anyone can read Bill’s thoughts.

What I do no as fact is that he violated every jounalistic standard to get the message out Free Republic is a right wing hate site.

When there is no objectivity or fact behind a public accusation, you’re left to believe he is acting as a spokesperson on behalf of your competitor or out of personal annimosity.

Either way he tipped his hand. All Freepers now know he hasn’t a shread of journalistic integrity, and the way he treated Kristinn (out of fear of having those papers exposed live) tells you he new he was lying while demonstrating every liers givaway with the exception of smoking furiously on a cigarette.

You’ll never get a straight answer regardless of how sound the speculation.

I want justice and I want it now.

This thread is the first thing that has made sense in all of this.

:)Like you description. If this is what lead him down this path then why not include others like a little sample of what is out there. Also if what I am reading is true he went with articles from 04 and 01 and they were articles not posts.

There is a thread with that phrase, but it wasn’t a FR poster who said it:

No doubt rejection of an illegal invasion is called racist when it has absolutely nothing to do with race at all.

I was saddened during the discussion of the illegal immigration bill, that O'Reilly repeatedly claimed that people were race-prejudiced and just don't want society to change from the "white Christian male" standard. I just don't believe that's true, except possibly in border states where the populace has been rubbed raw by the increases in taxation, overburdened services and crime due to a huge illegal influx of undocumented aliens.

I believe, rather, that American citizens don't want the rule of law flauted, especially the many who sacrificed and worked for years to become naturalized. They do not want illegal immigrants moved to the head of the line. It's fundamentally unfair.

I am also appalled that Mr. O'Reilly promotes appearances by Medea Benjamin, head of CodePink. Her organization provided $600,000 to "the other side" in Fallujah — a major bomb-making center for insurgents in Iraq — just as our troops were preparing to go in and clean out the terrorists. Those actions presumably put dozens of our troops into their graves or into Walter Reed hospital, where Ms. Benjamin has sent her operatives to stand outside and protest war policy every week — the worst kind of morally offensive hypocrisy. Why does O'Reilly legitimize her, or even give her the time of day?

It was an article from March 2001 about the vile and depraved left-wing tyrant Robert Mugabe. HE is the one who used the ‘dogs’ reference, and the poster who commented on it merely said that it’s not something Mugabe should be arrested for saying (the article was about a gay activist trying to have Mugabe arrested somewhere, Belgium I think....). It came up in a post asserting a free speech issue, not asserting the statement ala Mugabe. I’ve searched FR with Google and have not seen any other instance until yesterday when people were merely discussing and condemning the expression.

...I’ll be[t] we could review some of BOR’s tapes and find some questionable material. But if BOR is suggesting that FR fosters or encourages bigotry, he is dead wrong....

Ping to post 448.

This is SO not a hate site. I’ve seen too many FReepers jump on posters who post racist comments, etc., to know. BOR is 180 out on this one. There is NO comparison between FR and KOmmunistS — except that ones that show FR as a positive example.

I've downloaded the video from last night's program. The screenshots posted here only represent a portion of the screenshots on the video. The video of the program shows a video of someone cursing through the thread's page then selecting a thread (more than once). Thus, the screenshots posted here are fragments of what what was shown, and not necessarily representative of where the 'comments' came from.

I would imagine one would have to replicate the thread structure at that time to determine what stories were involved.

This makes the screenshots provided earlier of no practical use.

So you've had the opportunity to parse the bit of FR video clip inserted by BOR's staff. As well as it can be, anyway. Does it seem strange to you that the visual is blurry and that BOR doesn't allow the viewer to read the offensive statements he says were there? You'd think he'd have been proud to let the viewer "follow the bouncing cursor" to keep up.

I contend that he deliberately did not demonstrate it to the viewer because he couldn't. I think it was meant as a show for the non-discerning viewer who thinks it's good enough that he shows a webpage from FR, and then accepts him at his word.

Wouldn't surprise me if it went the same for the DKos.

O'Reillygate, anyone? LOL

He tries to gain credibility with "the center," by slamming conservatives every few shows -- even as he becomes wealthy for positing semi-conservative views

Only people with no vision thing that there is a "center" in between a left wing and a right wing. In reality, formerly-Democrat social conservatives and mainstream Republicans are the majority of Americans, and the Democrats have increasingly chosen to represent the extreme fringes of society, from mega-weathy Hollywood and financial tycoons to the poor whom the rich use as human shields.

I've seen a "Hillary is a Dog" on[c]e though...

I stop short of calling for anyone's death, but once called Hillary "old piano legs."

I know, I know — vile.

Let's meet at the nearest Japanese restaurant for a nice dish of sosumi.

Kristinn did a great job on the show. I saw the replay at 11 PM. O'Reilley constantly stomps on his guests before they have a chance to fully explain something to him. He must've been a teacher before his TV gig, because allot of teachers (not all) do that same thing. And I bet you are right about him not visiting FR. He probably had some intern do the research. One that is going to some liberal journalism college and has to have a job over the summer.

He did the hit piece probably because he got bombarded when he, rightfully so, called the DailyKOS a site that is full of hate. So, someone on the left probably said we are just a bad over here.

Did we have a spike in new member sign ups today? Just curious....

I want to know why he couldn’t give Kristinn the printouts he held in his hands during the broadcast?
