Welcome Congressman Duncan Hunter - LIVE Thread (virtual Free Republic press Conference)
From San Diego, CA | 8/13/07 | Duncan Hunter/Freepers

Posted on 08/13/2007 1:24:44 PM PDT by pissant

To members of Free Republic and friends, I would like to introduce a candidate for President of the United States and the current congressman from the 52nd district of California, Duncan Hunter!! To Americans who value the patriotism and missions of our Armed Forces, to those who want to put fear into the hearts of our adversaries from Beijing to Tehran, to those who value the rule of law when it comes to illegal immigration, to those who realize that the unborn deserve full legal protection beginning at conception, to those who believe Peace through Strength is far more than a motto, to those who do not like giving communist China unfettered access to our markets while they cheat at every turn, to those who want to halt and reverse losses of US sovereignty to global entities, and to those who want the GOP to return to Reaganism, Mr. Hunter is the Best choice.

Congressman Hunter currently is the ranking Republican on the Armed Services Committee, after spending the previous 4 years as its chair. He is an original co-sponsor of the Fair Tax bill and he is the author of the Secure Borders bill, signed by President Bush in 2006, which mandates 800+ miles of double fence across the smuggling corridors of the SW. He also is the man who has led the fight against NAFTA’s Mexican truckers having free reign on our roads, has forced congressional oversight of the executive branch’s ‘Security and Prosperity Partnership’ with Canada and Mexico, and was instrumental in saving our military intelligence officers from having to jump through bureaucratic hoops unrelated to combat.

A Vietnam combat Veteran himself, he currently has a son in the Marine Corps, Capt. Duncan Duane Hunter who is busy hunting jihadis in Afghanistan after two tours in Iraq. Congressman Hunter has been the anti-dote to the liberals in Congress doing their damndest to cut and run from the battlefield. Mr. Hunter knows that this war is our generation’s calling, and “the only way we can leave is to WIN”.

Below are 15 questions we compiled last month on Free Republic, which we sent to Congressman Hunter a few weeks ago. They are followed by his answers. This is the springboard we will use to kick off Mr. Hunter’s live “virtual press conference” on FR today.

Please stop by and say hello and you may post additional questions. HOWEVER, Please realize that time limitations will prevent him from answering all the questions you may have. Though he may get time later to forward answers to many left unaddressed during this session.

Please drop Jim Robinson a note of thanks as well. For not only hosting this event, but for having the best conservative website in the country!

Also, no disruptors allowed. Your posts will be removed.

The following is our Kickoff Q&A session:

When elected, if Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean are still incarcerated, what would you do, if anything?

In my opinion, a politician must seize political opportunity in order to win...which might be more difficult than it sounds.

However, I can identify at least one political opportunity currently ripe for plucking: the news media isn’t asking Senator Hillary Clinton “the hard questions.”

Now, people may disagree with my examples below of hard questions, but the principle stands even if the true “hard questions” are different from the following examples.

If I was a political advisor for Mr. Hunter, I would suggest asking these questions that “the news media won’t ask” in order to shock the news establishment as well as become “newsworthy” on a regular basis...hitting her with a new “hard question” on a regular basis.

My own examples of what the news media won’t ask her:
1. Should U.S. or UN food aid be given to Zimbabwe
2. Should China and India keep their Kyoto emission compliance exemptions
3. Should Chinese firms be required to carry product liability insurance in the U.S.
4. Should the U.S. go to war over Kosovo (again)
5. Should the Senate filibuster SCOTUS nominees
6. Should Hollywood movies be taxed based upon the number of guns shown therein
7. Should new nuclear power plants be built in the U.S.
8. Should government always grow larger
9. Should a sales tax replace our income tax
10.Would you nominate a practicing Christian to the SCOTUS
11.Should Wall Street be bailed out by the Fed
12.Should all doctors be government employees
13.Should guns be banned
14.Should immigration and borders be open and unlimited
15.Should inner-city parents have school-choice vouchers for their children

Rather than base a Presidency on the satisfaction of interest groups, I will work to shape an America where our citizens are more independent of government the day I leave the White House than when I take office.

Thank you Congressman Hunter for your valuable time!

Would you ever consider decriminalizing marijuana or eliminating the “war on drugs” completely? Such a stance would be welcomed by many voters from both sides of the aisle.

Congressman Hunter, It is truly an honor to be on a forum with you especially here in the best truly conservative forum there is. It was a deep thrill of appreciation to many of us here when you showed the honor of standing up for Terri Schiavo during that debate.

I am doubly glad that we have in you a candidate anthentic in the mold of Ronald Reagan and a veteran of those days.

I have no question, only a deeply heartfelt request. Please win.

God bless you.

Ping to warriors on Terri's List and prolifers.

8mm

Mr. Hunter, you’ve got my vote first chance I get and have already recieved a campaign contribution. I’m praying for your success.

Can you say anything regarding the campaign and how you see a breakout happening for you? You don’t have debt but didn’t take the “shot” that some did by focusing on the Iowa straw poll.

Congressman,

Many of us in the PetroChem and refining engineering field have watched aghast as critical skills are shipped oversees. (Not to mention all the plans and details of refineries which are pretty much bombs the size of a small city.)

Therefore I applaud you when you recognize that some limits on trade are good and are a strategically important both to our security and economy.

Is it fair or accurate for detractors to call you a “protectionist” in general or an “isolationist”?

I hope to be in Pennsylvania within the next six weeks! I was last there speaking in support of the great Congressman Joe Pitts (Air Force Pilot, Conservative, Patriot).

Supporter in WA State. Just going over the thread now to read your answers. One worrisome problem - wish ALL candidates had the same time to answer questions. I have never seen such a disgraceful manipulation of these so called “debates.” The left has made a sham of them.

I LOVE this. I hope that it helps to get him the attention that he deserves.

Coulter likes him, and so does George Will. That just about runs the gamut on the right.

Hunter ‘08

If my husband loved me, he’d win the lottery. Then I’d write a big, fat check to the Hunter campaign.
