A controversial week of events, billed as Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, launches at the University of Washington and some 100 other colleges next week drawing condemnations from Muslim groups here and across the country.
The UW College Republicans...say the week is intended to foster awareness of the terrorist threat posed by a small number of extremists within Islam.
But some local Muslims say the week fosters Islamophobia and racism and attempts to paint all Muslims as terrorists.
Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, launched this year by a recent graduate of Duke University...is intended to "confront the two Big Lies of the political left: that George Bush created the war on terror and that Global Warming is a greater danger to Americans than the terrorist threat"...
The Web site includes suggested campus activities such as holding sit-ins outside women's studies departments to protest "the silence of feminists over the oppression of women in Islam" and holding a memorial service for the "victims of Islamo-Fascist violence around the world."
The UW week won't include all those elements...
And it's hosting two events open to the public: a showing of "Suicide Killers," a documentary about suicide bombers, at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Smith Hall, and a talk by conservative author and talk-show host Michael Medved at 7 p.m. Thursday in Kane Hall...
Amin Odeh, a board member with the local Arab American Community Coalition, said he agrees that "radical anything is dangerous radical Muslims, radical Christians, radical Jews. Education is needed"...
Hala Dillsi, a member of the UW Muslim Student Association, believes Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week promotes fear and intolerance. She is distributing green armbands and encouraging people to wear T-shirts that are green traditionally the color associated with Islam on Wednesday in solidarity with local Arabs and Muslims...

The difference between a moderate Muslim and a radical Muslim is that the radical Muslim wants to kill you, while the moderate Muslim simply wants you dead.
“”Aside from all their genital mutilations, oppression of women and genocide of homosexuals.””
5% terrorist is a considerable underestimate for supporters — polls have shown >30% of those mussies between 18 and 35 support mass murder of innocents. Don’t forget we have the GLBT alliance here and the T is for the transgendered which is nothing more than the genitally mutilated on steriods. Furthermore there is no genocide of homosexuals since it is a chosen behavior and not a gene issue.
Are they upset that others have perceptions of them?
The phrase is an accurate descriptor for the phenomenon of terrorism in the name of Islam. If you have a problem with it take it up with those who started doing it. Precise use of language to describe the world around us is not the problem. It's not the word "Islamo-fascist" that causes people to dislike Muslims it's the fact that Muslims don't take care of their own. If Islam wants to be part of the civilized world then it's time for Islam to step up and defend it. Until then Islam is suspect and deserves to be.
Hala Dillsi is half right, everone that would like to, should wear green shirts with some 2-3” holes all over it. Thereby showing how worthless Islam is.
I’d like a case of those armbands. I see a lot of possibilities.
Educate me, Amin. How many radical Christians and Jews have strapped on suicide belts and blown up innocents in the last 50 years? How many have flown planes into buildings? How many have blown up embassies? How many have blown holes in somebodies warships docking for supplies in peace time? How many have bombed London subways or Spanish railways? How many have kidnapped civilians and cut off their heads alive and videotaped it?
I'm getting tired of typing and I've barely scratched the surface.
All Muslims are innocent to all Muslims, it’s a teaching of the Koran.
Reads right, thanks. Source?
I’d like to use this.
That is the national flag of Saudi Arabia - - what would you do with those armbands? - - if it offends SA, I’m on board.
While a Muslim may reject “fascism” a Muslim cannot reject the Shariah.
And Shariah cannot be reconciled with western ways, therefore a true Muslim could never become western.
It is a religious duty for Muslims to give aid and assistance to those engaging in Jihad. Anything from donating cash to pro-Jihad groups to actually providing materials, ID, and safe houses. It is a duty of ALL Muslims to support Jihad in some way. See my FR Homepage for details
> paint all Muslims as terrorists
Well, let’s see.
In August a Turkish airliner was hijacked.
When the authorities retook the plane, the very first thing that the terrorists said was “We are Muslims.”
That pretty much sums it up. Out of their own mouths, Muslims equals Terrorists.
I don’t need to know anything more.
All muslims are terrorists by their own admission.
It’s possible to paint Muslims as terrorist b/c so many Muslims are terrorists. You can’t paint Hasidim as terrorists, or Amis. D’Uh!
They'd work great next to the Grill to set the spatula on when grilling pork chops.
One should always wear a couple when out in the woods for use as emergency wipes. Probably less irritating than poison ivy or bark.
And the list goes on.
Welcome to Free Republic.
Everything you say can and will be used against you.
Gotcha - - I’m on board.
Moderate Muslims most emphatically do NOT want you dead. Or at least not right away. They want you alive and paying the Dhimmi Tax. They want you in second class status, and following sharia law, but with few rights, and paying that tax.
You'll be dead soon enough, and when you are, you will be a righteous Muslim's slave in paradise. However, if a moderate Muslim has a more militant friend, whose idea of Jihad is to kill you, the moderate Muslim is duty bound to support Jihad. You know, like put the guy up, get him airline tickets, false documents, money, help him get away, etc.
I hope this information was reassuring to you. I wouldn't want you nervous about your Muslim neighbors.
Well the few non-religious ones don’t. Kind of like the people that go to church only on Christmas and Easter.
