Five good Samaritans disrupted the alleged rape of a 22-year-old Oregon woman, chasing down and tackling the suspect until authorities arrived, police said.

Clearly, this hood might have injured those 20 year olds.
And given that the rapist might have been 400 pounds, I feel the 3 men and 2 women did what they had to to stop this rapist and subdue him...
There is a fix for that situation -- pack your own piece (gun)...
That is how I viewed the criticism of the 5 young people -- three 20 year old men and two 20 year old women...
The rapist looks like he weighs in at about 300 pounds to 400 pounds, so I do think the use of force was excessive but probably defensive given the fact that the pervert had strangled the rape victim...
Seriously though, I am glad they gave this dude the pounding he deserved. Now, a fish-knife to a certain bag would have been far better, but hey ...at least he is out of the streets for now.
And the guy looks like something out of the Dawn of the Dead.
I agree if more people carried this would be rare.
But i do believe that commending civilians for clear and direct actions in support of the rule of law (in this case against the crime of rape) is not easy for the police. And the question is why?
The bit I've bolded here got my attention: When police arrived, they found a bloodied 37-year-old Paul Landingham being detained by three men and two women, all about 20 years old.
While I'm all for chivalry, I'm also all for women not waiting to be rescued. I'll bet there are some high-heel marks on delicate parts of this MF'ers anatomy (a carload of 20-year-olds out on a Friday night, they were probably in their club clothes).
Good advice in general; it's usually safer to chase a perp off than to chase him down, especially if you're unarmed and untrained. But sometimes you have to make a judgment call in a millisecond, and these kids could hardly have done better.
You could second-guess their decision, but they had a 5-to-1 advantage, and looking at that fat f---, he was probably winded in the first ten yards. Especially if he was trying to pull his pants back up at the time.
One of the young male adults hurt his hand during the scuffle with Landingham, an injury photographed by police.
1) "Young male adults" was "young men" when I was in school (assuming that young, adult, and male has "human" implied). And, when I was in school, writers were taught to extirpate extraneous verbiage that fails to enhance the central core function of communication; or as William Strunk put it, "Vigorous writing is concise."
B) I hope his hand injures were in the form of knuckle-bruising. Something you can show you your buddies over a beer and say "you should see the other guy." Then show them the picture.
If someone has a weapon and you have none, and he demands your wallet, give it to him. Nothing in there is worth your life.
If someone grabs you and tries to drag you into a car, fight like hell, scream like hell, bite and scratch and resist to the last.
It's not as simple as "fight or don't."
They were rescuing a rape victem you dipshiitte! They werent taking justice into their own hands.
If these folks had killed the alleged rapist, that would have been "taking the law into their own hands." All they did was detain him until the police could arrive and investigate, then take the case to the courts.
When the rapist ran away, they were rescuing the victim. When they pursued the victim, not so much. And there's no one-size-fits-all for that call.
You're a liberal democrat....right?
He is fugly! Looks like the kids gave him a night to remember.
he he he !
Which means you beat the cr*p out of the guy, regardless.
Damn shame the other one lived.
Heroes know what they’ve done. They sleep at ease for doing what is right.
“I do think the use of force was excessive”
You’re either an attorney, or your tagline is out of sync with your comments.
Okada, the spokesman for the Salem police, warned against civilians simply taking justice into their own hands. You dont know whether a suspect is armed or what their mind frame is, he said.
-—Which is why we all need liberal conceal/carry permits-—
Can you provide more info about that photo? It’s amazing!
It’s no less than what he deserves.
Glad to see that they worked this fat loser before they turned him over.
Okada is a dic*head. With statements like these coming from law enforcement officers it’s no wonder people hate cops.
