If there's no FRed and no Hunter and we're left with the four headless RINOs, then what?
January 10, 2008 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 01/10/2008 3:40:52 PM PST by Jim Robinson

The question was posed to me last night, if the only two conservatives in the race were to drop out, leaving the hapless RINOs Giuliani, Romney, Huckabee and McCain to ward off the Evil Witch of the East then, Jim, what do we do?

Well, I think four issues that most of us conservatives will agree on that are at the top or near the top of our priority lists are National Defense, Border Security, Guns and Life should be considered. We can argue all day long on whether or not these guys are constitutionally minded, small government fiscal conservatives, and I don't believe any of them are, but we'll leave that for another day. Let's concentrate on National Defense, Border Security, Guns and Life.

Well, I can see right off that that rules out Rudy, the draft dodging, gun grabbing, sanctuary city abortionist. At least the other three claim to be pro-life, although Romney has been a pro-choice abortionist for all of his elected history until he decided to run for president. I think Romney's pro choice, big government nanny state (RomneyCare) record gives him two big black eyes and should knock him out of any further consideration. That leaves Huckabee and McCain.

Now, all four of these guys are terrible on border security even though they're all claiming now to be border hawks. McCain led the charge for amnesty and the rest fell in line like dutiful RINO troopers. Can't really make a distinction among these guys on the border issue. All fail, though I think most conservatives would rank McCain at or near the bottom.

Guns. Rudy's definitely out. McCain's out. Romney's not much better. Guess Huckabee the big duck hunter outshoots the others in this category.

Rudy fails in all categories, McCain and Romney fail on guns, and all fail on borders. So I guess Huckabee has more to offer over the others at this point as he is at least pro-life and pro-gun.

Now comes national defense. Sorry, but I can't see the draft dodging, gun grabbing, gay loving, cross-dressing, illegal alien pandering abortion activist Rudy Giuliani as a very appealing or effective guy to head up our military, even if he did make some rousing anti-terrorist speeches on 9/11. The "gays should be allowed to serve openly in the military" Romney (no military or national security experience that I know of) doesn't give me goosebumps either.

So, again, we're down to Huckabee and McCain. Now you all know that I like Huckabee as he is a likable fellow, and I hate McCain, but wait. If the whole shebang is going to be decided on which of the still standing Republican wannabes should defend America from the terrorists and the surrendering Democrats, I think I'll have to go with McCain over Huckabee. At least McCain served in the military and has a whole lot more military and national security experience while serving on various committees in the senate than does Huckabee. Huckabee has none. And I doubt Huckabee can defeat Hillary. But then, McCain probably won't either, so guess that leaves plan B. Squat down, tuck your head down between your knees and kiss your ass goodbye.

Here's praying that the only two all around consistently reliable conservatives hang in there and one of them gets the nod.

Go Hunter!! Go, FRed, GO!!

Its a sad state of affairs when all you can do is vote AGAINST rather than FOR ideas. Thats the problem I have with the GOP. Use fear to motivate us in voting but forget the ideas. We voted AGAINST Clinton in 92, and 96. Wanted a conservative and everyone sold out to Bush. Voted AGAINST GORE. 2004 voted AGAINST Kerry.

In the meantime we failed at reforming social security, reducing spending, eliminating government regulations (added prescription drug bill, NCLB) Where is the idea of freedom and liberty and less government in our lives (economically and socially?

Fiscal conservatives are few and far between and are my preference since we seem to be spending our way into oblivion.

Rudy has the best economic record of all. He cleaned up NYC, wants to cut capital gains tax and believes in freemarket ideas. When Larry Kudlow interviewed him this summer, Rudy’s policies are what we need for stellar economic growth.

I WILL NOT VOTE FOR ANY REPUBLICAN WHO DOES NOT SUPPORT MAJOR TAX CUTS AND HUGE SPENDING REDUCTIONS.

I will sit out and not vote. If a democrat is elected president, then maybe the GOP will get off its keister and truly support major economic and regualtory reforms. A shakeup would be good and we can get more Jack Kemp, Jeff Flake, Mike Pence and Tom Coburns elected who will actually take a meat cleaver to the bloated bureacracy.

Our Al Qaeda enemies send you profuse thanks for your willingness to vote for Ron Paul the paleosurrendermonkey and Al Qaeda mouthpiece in time of war, no less.

What do you think of McCain wanting to stay in that hellhole for another 100 years? Do you think independents are going to vote for him over this?

Green Party socialists will be elected to Congress and you guys will still be talking about the need to stay the course and calling those who want the war to wind down a bunch of surrender monkeys. At what point do you want to continue fighting when gas shoots up to $5 a gallon and the dollar becomes as worthless as 1920s German Marks?

It's an awful position we're in. According to the quizes on VAJoe and CNN I match up with Hunter then Thompson then Romney. I guess they go by the candidates STATED positions not their past actions.

Although I hate a flipper at least Romney's flipped to a more conservative position on Life, Illegal Immigration and Guns. I guess I'd rather take a chance that Romney's flip is sincere rather than to support either McCain or Giuliani who I KNOW will be liberal because they do not repudiate their past liberal positions.

It’s like deciding whether you want to drive off a cliff at 60 mph or 90mph - either way, we’re going over the cliff.

That brings to mind one of the many memorable quotes from The Lion In Winter, with the retort delivered by a much younger Anthony Hopkins as Prince Richard.

Prince Geoffrey: My you chivalric fool... as if the way one fell down mattered.

Prince Richard: When the fall is all there is, it matters.

Romney is not pro-amnesty. Tom Tancredo endorsed him. I trust Tom’s judgment on the issue.

Why?

Because Tom knows where the money is and is going to need money with his up and coming bid for a Senate seat?

And you think he supports Romney out of conviction. ROTFLMAO!

I am almost at the same point as you. I am biased on this subject. I count the appointment of Justices to the Supreme Court who will obey, rather than rewrite, the Constitution, as the longest impacting action any President can take.

No, signing an amnesty bill will be the equivalent of signing this nation's death warrant. This will have the longest impact and most important action any President will ever take.

If more folks would get behind Fred we won’t have to choose a RINO.

Go Fred Go.

How long will it be before they start asking Fred when he’s going to drop out?

If they haven’t already?

If they did it to Duncan, they might do it to him.

Fred & Duncan are the lone conservatives running for President. A vote for anyone else is an insult to our republic. If the GOP doesn’t understand this today they will November 4th. The election is the GOP’s too lose IMO.

Just as you have been saying since day one and catching grief for here. As ya stated.....lets see if they harass JR as they did you .......:o)

It needs to be said with conviction by a candidate and not just a talking point to get elected.

Yes, he does. You can believe what you want, but our grassroots immigration reform group has been in contact with Tancredo and the Romney campaign. Tom has far more principle and conviction than the others in this campaign. He is the one who has suffered the attacks and insults as the lone voice in the wilderness on immigration and illegal aliens.

One deciding factor mentioned was the Supreme appointments.

But if the 4 frontrunners are almost the same as the dems, can they really be trusted to give us decent appointees?

If Tancredo’s so anti-amnesty, why in tarnation didn’t he endorse Hunter who built the darn fence in San Diego, and pushed the bill through to get the fences built in the other states?????????????????????

Sorry to but in here, but, imho, Tancredo wanted to throw his endorsement to a candidate who was strong on immigration that he felt could actually win in November. That candidate is Mitt Romney. I like Duncan Hunter a lot, but he is not a contender.

Personally, I trust Tancredo's judgement and see him as an honest guy who really cares about the issue of illegal immigration.
