Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

Like most of the charges against Huckabee, it was taken out of context, distorted wildly, then put through a partisan media amplifer turned up to 11. Hunter knows the difference between reality and the Club For Growth's bought-and-paid-for garbage. A lot of people around here don't. Hence, all the exploding heads and their sudden realization that, OMG, Duncan Hunter is also "a tax-loving, illegal-immigrant-coddling SOCIALIST!!!" Couldn't possibly be that they allowed themselves to be swayed by misinformation from loud partisan sources, and then, like Leacock's famous knight, rode off in all directions.

I never understood the enthuasiasm for Hunter. He not only voted for the Prescription Drug boondogle but for No Child Left Behind. He also casts more than his share of pure pork barrel votes.

Wake up folks. Romney is NOT a conservative at all - he bends with the wind. All Romney has going for him is nice teeth, a nice hairdo, money, and mormon connections. The man isn’t fit, politically speaking, to lead a proverbally horse to water. He isn’t competent enough to pour pee out of a boot with instructions written on the heel. He has no business being considered for high office.

Wow, I've been going through this thread, and yours is the first really sane post I've seen so far.

It seems like some people have difficulty disagreeing with someone's decision without vilifying him. If you trusted Duncan Hunter to be leader of the Free World, you should trust him to decide who he wants to endorse and respect his decision for what it is.

Duncan Hunter is a human being and a politician, not some abstract, Platonic ideal of what a conservative is. That means he won't always do things his supporters agree with. His supporters ought not take it personally.

Huck is the only one (ron paul doesn’t count since he’s just crazy) who is really soft on national security. Mccain is also against gitmo and waterboarding but at least he has other things to make up for it.

I think Huckabee wanting to "shut down gitmo" has been overblown. He doesn't want to let anyone imprisoned there go.

HUCKABEE: On the Guantanamo issue, I felt we should keep it open until the court case had come down indicating that there was no real substantive difference in whether they were in Guantanamo or Leavenworth. And I think that sort of changes the picture.

I went to Guantanamo, I visited it. Quite frankly, I visited every prison in my state. I know a little bit about the difference between what we operate and what we were operating at Guantanamo.

The conditions down there were amazingly hospitable. I thought a little bit too much for my taste, considering what these people had done.

Bush never said anything implying he would have a weak approach with national security. Huck did and he also pardoned many people. The charge sticks.

Bush was soft enough. I don’t want someone softer on crime and terror.
