NYP: WHAT REALLY HAPPENED ON FLIGHT 800?-- NATIONAL GEO AND THE LI MYSTERY
New York Post ^ | January 29, 2008 | Linda Stasi

Posted on 01/29/2008 12:45:23 PM PST by OESY

...Tonight's "The Final Report: Investigation of TWA Flight 800" on National Geographic Channel presents a brilliant, well-researched look into what the investigators found - and what they didn't find.

The show details the animosity that existed from day one between the NTSB and the FBI.

The NTSB is usually the final word in all air crashes. But because a number of eyewitnesses on the ground saw streaks flying towards the aircraft right before it exploded, and air traffic controllers reporting blips around the aircraft, the FBI came in and took over the investigation, calling it a possible crime.

There were immediately three prevailing theories. One was friendly fire. The US Navy runs weapons training exercises in a 300-mile-wide swath near the flight path.

The second held that it could have been terrorists with ground-to-air missiles.

The third was that there had been a bomb on board.

The producers interview most of the players in the investigation including eyewitnesses; Robert Francis, the former chairman of the NTSB who was not happy to have the FBI crawling over his investigation; James Kallstrom of the FBI, who knew that 747s just don't randomly blow up; Leon Panetta, then-White House Chief of Staff; as well as cops who dove for the wreckage, like Vincente Termine.

After this show, you may trust the government even less than you do now. Or you may think they are as honest as they possibly could be in simply admitting that they just don't know.

Whatever you conclude, you won't conclude that National Geographic didn't do a very thorough job. Great reporting.

***Remember when the building was blown up in Oklahoma.***

I remember the news media (ABC) saying “Dark, swarthy men of Middle Eastern extraction” were seen running from the scene before the explosion.

Anyone watching CNN that night would have heard a call from a ret. Air Force Colonel who had just landed at Teterboro and said ..live...that he saw a missile hit the jet from his own airborne plane.. That call, to the best of my knowledge, was never repeated in later coverage. I heard it and remember his voice on the line.

I remember that too.

I saw that video clip as well. It was taken during some kind of get together on an outside deck. As soon as I saw it I told my wife it liiked almost exactly like the patriot missiles I had seen in Saudi Arabia during the first gulf war.

I too remember that video with the details about the deck and a party. It's amazing that it can't be found. Kind of 1984ish...there's no video yet we all remember it.

I have read all of his books, but I REFUSE to read Wildfire. I have to say, he has written so many great books I don’t think I could choose a favorite.

Anyone remember a similar incident just in the last three or four years? I think it was on the west coast where a pilot reported a missile streaked by his aircraft which was several thousand feet in the air. Several on the ground also saw it.

The government concluded that it might have been a “bottle rocket”.

Maybe I’m dense, but I just don’t get why anyone would cover up an attack. What would be the point of that?

The incident occured in July 1996. The Atlanta Summer Olympics were just beginning. There was a Presidential election just four months later, and the campaign was in full swing.

Clinton had every motive to make this go away.

Several things bothered me about what went on with TWA 800. The conclusion, a spark in the fuel compartment, was not followed with any recommendation for a change. No procedural changes, no physical changes to the aircraft, nada.

Second, Al Gore put together a committee at Clinton's request to improve safety. The committee was formed in response to TWA 800. This is from Democrats.Com

On July 25, 1996, shortly after the crash of TWA flight 800, President Clinton asked Vice President Gore to chair a commission on improving air transportation safety. As a result, the White House Commission on Aviation Safety and Security, commonly known as the Gore Commission, conducted an in-depth analysis of the U.S. commercial airlines' safeguards against terrorist attacks. In its final report, the Gore Commission found that security measures used by U.S. airlines were extremely inadequate, and made over fifty recommendations to improve security.
Why did a committee formed to improve safety after an accidental crash focus on deterring terrorist attacks? Finally, George Stephanopoulos referred to the "bombing of TWA 800" once, and other than that, refuses to talk about it.

Why didn't someone or group take claim? That's a good question and I don't know nor do I know that they didn't through private channels. Too much speculation for me to know or guess at an answer. What I have are memories of numerous opinions from airline pilots and mechanics I know as I was working in the industry at the time who all said they didn't believe the "official" explanation of a spark from frayed center tank wiring. Missile or bomb is what each of them attributed the cause to.

That a/c was an older design B747 and newer models don't use that wiring, but there are enough of that model, plus other aircraft with similarly designed wiring, that were it a problem, Flt 800 would more likely been one of many rather than the most famous example.

I'm from Phoenix and the summer temps there get way hotter than almost any other airport. If vaporized fuel and a low voltage spark from a poorly designed wiring were a problem, I've always thought that statistically it would have happened more often, even to well maintained American carriers or to the various cargo a/c.

My experiences watching Clinton tell the most outrageous lies, as well as the numerous stories of the Clinton Crime family's heavy handed tactics only add to my disbelief for the official CIA/FBI/NTSB story. "No controlling legal authority", all the missed chances to take out ObL, the many Janet Reno examples such as Waco, Ellian Gonzales, etc., etc., etc.,...so many examples we know of. How many more we don't?

Regarding all those witnesses, to the best of my knowledge, NOT ONE reported, on the same night of the incident, anything vaguely resembling "I just saw a missile take out an airliner".

This can only be because you have no knowledge, or worse.

Here's one (pdf) for you to read.

And here's a hundred more.

Another thing that makes the missile (either from a boat or the shore) seem plausible is that the rocket launching tripod I mentioned earlier was turned up when there was an OFFICIAL search of the dunes. That is, there were park rangers and police, in addition to citizens, out there searching the dunes. They wouldn’t have had a search like that unless there was considerable suspicion that it was a missile attack.

I think the launching tripod was actually found by some hikers or birdwatchers a little later, however, and not in the official search. IIRC, the tripod story disappeared almost immediately and then I think later they said it was probably just used for launching fireworks. Possible, I suppose. But there was definitely official suspicion right off the bat that it was a missile attack.

>>>gut says he's dirty....<<<

I think Kahlstrom is in a selfimposed living hell for what he had to do.

But remember who he was ultimately answering to. A gun at the back of your head is a strong incentive....particlularly when you have Ft. Marcy Park as a recent example.

I have little doubt that such an action is not within the capability of the Clintons.

“Transparency in governing?? I know I’d like it.”

Me to- I was not trying to defend the actions, just trying to explain it.

If there were Muslim terrorists demonstrably involved, then say so. If it was a shoebomb, say so. If there was smoke at the grassy knoll then so be it.

There were Lebanese, Jordanian, Egyptian and Lebanese victims.

According to CNN, and it is true that the hijackers died.

BTW, saying Lebanese twice doesn't double the number of Lebanese fatalities...

Just FYI:

Here are the figures I extracted from primary sources.

Muslim countries without 9/11 WTC (non-hijacker) fatalities:

Afghanistan
Albania
Algeria
Akaran
Azerbaijan
Baharain
Bashkortostan
Bangladesh
Bosnia & Herzegovina
Brunei
Burkina Faso
Chad
Chechmya
Cocos Islands
Comoros
Cote D'Ivoire
Dagestan
Djibouti
East Turkistan
Egypt
Eritrea
Ethiopia
The Gambia
Guinea
Ingushetia
Iran
Iraq
Jordan
Kabardino & Bakaria
Kazakhstan
Kosovo
Kuwait
Kyrgyzstan
Lybia
Malaysia
Maldives
Mali
Mauritania
Mayotte
Mindanao
Morroco
Niger
Oman
Pakistan
Palistine
Qatar
Sanjak
Saudi Arabia
Senegal
Sierra Leone
Somalia
Somaliland
Sudan
Syria
Tajikistan
Tatarstan
Tunisia
Turkey
Turkmenistan
United Arab Emirates
Western Sahara
Yemen
Zanzibar

Muslim countries with 9/11 WTC fatalities:
Indonesia (92% Muslim) 1 dead
Lebanon (75% Muslim) 3 dead
Nigeria (75% Muslim) 1 dead
Usbekistan (88% Muslim) 1 dead

I suspect that these 6 either didn't get the memo, or are from the non-muslim part of the populations...

FWIW, according to Al-Ahram Weekly Online 27 Sep. - 3 Oct. 2001 Issue No.553:

But Israel, in response, confirmed that 140 Israelis died in the rubble of the WTC.

The maintenance records for this particular aircraft documented a lightning strike on the left wing tip! The aircraft was at 30,000 feet and descending for a landing at the Athens airport. The electric charge flowed through the wing which is full of fuel and exited the mid fuselage area. The "report" wants you to believe that a millwatt "leak" in the midfuselage area caused the explosion while the multigigawatt lightning strike had no effect!!!

If you visit the TWA 800 website that I linked to you will see some of the photographs that cannot be ignored. A women was standing with her back to the bay. It was her birthday and she was smiling. Above her head is the streak that was ignored by the FBI investigation. 500+ eye witness were ignored.

A search of the Long Island Sound was made and the search was for evidence of a shoulder fired igniter which is carried along with the booster for a coupla hundred feet. Results? CLASSIFIED!

The final proof that it was a short circuit in the center fuel tank is that they NTSB grounded all 747’s to inspect the wiring...

Of course, government bureaucrats also seize all nail clippers to prevent plane hijackings...

Well, you wouldn’t want stray nail clippings working their way into th wiring harnesses and chafing the insulation, would you????

Aviator, you clearly missed null and void's cleaver sarcasm. The NTSB never grounded the 747’s fleet to inspect the wiring.

Well, they were THINKING about it, maybe... ;-)
