“Neither do you.”

Actually, I do. And so do McCains handlers. They’ve got the numbers and wouldn’t be where they are if there wasn’t a respectable level of confidence in them.

McCain was the dart board of right wing conservatives and here he is the pub nominee. Don’t think you’re smarter than them...maybe more conservative, but they know the numbers.

Okay, okay......you're an insider ....guess that means the plan is to try and "get out the conservative, independent, and WOT-conscious liberals vote" then, doesn't it. Numbers, numbers, numbers......I'm sure the McCain crowd had all of what's happened in the last few months pegged down to the last count. I don't buy it. Drop me a line election day and tell me again how right you are.

When John takes office, it will have been 20 years since a Conservative that truly ‘got it’ led this nation.

In this context I hope you’re not talking about Reagan, he signed the first idiotic illegal amnesty bill.

I am frequently approached with that rejoinder.  Let's take a look at what Reagan did.

In 1986 a bill was proposed to 'fix immigration'.  That bill included an out right amnesty to the illegal aliens that had been inside our nation for a period of five to ten years or more.  I don't remember the exact term required.  It also provided new sanctions to employers and other measures to end illegal immigration.

It was claimed that there were only one million illegals inside the nation at that time.  Those one million had accumulated since the mid-1950s, when the last immigration fix had been implemented.  Anotherwords, in thirty years only one million illegal immigrants were assessed to have come across the border.  This would have indicated a flow of around 33,000 per year.  Today it's more like 1.5 to 3.0 million.

Even at the paultry pace of 33,000 illegals coming across the border per year, Reagan wanted the problem addressed and resolved.  And for this reason he signed the bill.

I disagreed with him.  I thought it was a mistake to reward illegality, but with an estimate of one million illegals and the prospect of putting teach into the employment end of things, I thought it would help.

After the bill was signed, 3.5 million illegals signed up over the subsequent few years.  Was that bad?  Absolutely.

Then along came the champion of the New World Order, President George Bush (the first).  Starting with his administration a very low priority was placed on securing our borders.  And it basicly remains that way today.  In the ten years from 1990 to 2000, about one million illegal immigrants came across our border per year.  Since 2000, something like two million have come across.  The current President Bush telegraphed his intentions in 1999.  Since that time a torrent of illegals has flowed across the border.  In one nine month stretch about 18 months ago, nine hundred thousand illegal immigrants were apprehended coming over the border.  Traditionally about ten to fifteen percent of illegals have been caught crossing the border.  The implications of these numbers are staggering.

Let's review.

Reagan saw a problem at even 33,000 illegals coming across per year and tried to fix it.
McCain saw upwards of two million coming across the border each year and tried to exploit the situation.

Reagan Intended to approve of an amnesty of one million illegal immigrants.
John McCain intended to approve of an amnesy of between 25 and 35 million illegal immigrants.

Reagan signed a bill with increased sanctions on employers of illegal immigrants and other measures to put an end to illegal immigration.
John McCain devised a bill with increased work visas in order to make sure the flow continued.

John did propose a $2,500 to $5,000 dollar fee per household, to compensate the U.S. for illegality.  What John didn't mention is that these are in most instances folks who cannot afford to pay for the healthcare of their families.  They can't pay for the education of their children.  They can't support themselves in many instances.  They get other government funds and services.  John still remains convinced that they can afford $2,500 to $5,000 in fines.  And I think John is a fool for doing so.

McCain went so far as to hire on a former staff member of the President of Mexico as his liason on matters concerning Mexico.  That staff member devised a Mexico First policy, and John McCain defended it.

Do you really see this as the same thing Reagan did?

Before you go saying that Reagan's measures didn't stop illegal immigration, please take note that when Oklahoma and a few other states started to enforce the laws we have had on our books for the last twenty years, illegal immigrants suddenly removed their children from the state's schools and left the state.

If Bush I, Clinton and Bush II had enforced the laws of our nation, we wouldn't be in this mess.

And today some of us are determined to enable John McCain to do whatever he damn well choses as soon as he is the CIC.

Just damn...

No, I’m not an insider, I read. If anything, I’m an insider (or was) of FR. Check my about page.

Dude, this is FR...it’s what we do here. And I’m not a surrogate, but thanks for stereotyping.

I know, that is one of the privileges of posting here: discussion. I am not trying to stereotype anyone. But there are a lot of posts at present that lecture us as to what we should do 8 months from now. Between now and November, there could be another 9/11, Katrina, or other events. Who is the Democrat nominee? After tonight, it is an open question.

McCain does have a responsibility to tell conservatives, why to vote for him. He needs time to do so, and we need time to digest where we are.

The point of the original article is one of, if not the only, reason to vote for him: our troops. At the same time his approach to Gitmo and interrogation means, he will castrate our troops and facilitate terrorists by moving the terrorists into the court system, instead of dealing with them as we did the German saboteurs of WWII, who were tried in military court and hanged.

Supporting our troops is not, in this instance, the same as supporting McCain except that he is less vile than the democrats. None of them have the strength of FDR, no republican, on this subject.

I’m not a McCain fan, I’m an America fan and dead set against the dems.

Sometimes one has to take a step back to take two forward. But allowing shrill or barry to sit in the oval office for 8-16 years is not a step back, it’s a step into the grave.

Active duty and still not voting for Juan McInsane. If the GOP was so concerned about “Commander in Chief” Hillary or Obama, It shouldn’t have nominated Benedict Johnny.

I looked at your page and it doesn’t convince me that your assessment is any better than mine. What you are trying to do is to prop up a candidate that can’t stand on his own because he’s spent the last 20 years kicking out his conservative legs. It just doesn’t wash. The rest of you can go out and vote for him - I will not, neither will I vote for Hillary or Obama. I will concentrate my voting on more local candidates.

One of my calls as well. Cannot imagine; nor tolerate the thought of; Repubs who cannot understand the over-riding need to support our Military. Allowing a Demrat win here; a Military-hating, American-hating Commander-in-Chief close to treasonous; IMHO.

'Support our troops' could not be more meaningless, if we cannot hold our nose and vote; when our soldiers have to sacrifice so much more than a ' nose-pin'.

A Commander-in-Chief, who has more respect for our worst enemies than for our Country and it's safeguarding, is totally, abjectly worthless and the worst insult we could deliver to our Military.

Not to mention the most dangerous of signals fired from America to friend and foe alike, around the world.

“The rest of you can go out and vote for him - I will not, neither will I vote for Hillary or Obama. I will concentrate my voting on more local candidates.”

Fair enough. But don’t forget that casting a vote to “cancel” another is just as responsible as casting a vote “for”.

IN other words, you could cast a vote to cancel one of shrill/barry’s but in your heart be confident it morally wasn’t a vote for McCain.

That may be true, but we are where we are. Do we raise the white flag to our enemies because we disagree with the CO?

“But there are a lot of posts at present that lecture us as to what we should do 8 months from now.”

I don’t mean to lecture, just give a different perspective. Each individual has to make up their own mind.

Exactly right. The RP got just the guy they wanted. He’s a pliable tool.

2008 is over. If McCain truly isn’t the guy they wanted for 2008, then I guess it’s time to clean up the nomination process so this doesn’t happen again in 2012. Otherwise the RP can just hang up their hat.

I’m tired of watching our side implement the democrats favorite pipe dreams. One idiot had grandure plans for national healthcare.

Lordy. Don’t we have enough people beholdin to the government already?

Just say no to evil, even the lesser one.

If we can survive eight years of Bill Clinton with Hillary running the show, why can’t we survive four years of Hillary?

What’s this overpowering love fest with McCain really about?
