The flight from California is not good news for the rest of the nation. The refugees bring California with them wherever they go. “Colorado is nice but it needs more land use ordinances.” Idaho is nice but it needs more regulation of(fill in the blank).” That leads to the (excuse me)Californication of the rest of the West.

Liberals foul the nest with over-legislation and then wonder who ruined the state.

I was visiting my parents a few years ago, and we were sitting in the nice little Episcopal church in Sequim, Washington one Sunday morning. A new family had just moved up from California that week, and were introducing themselves. The Priest said a lot of people in the congregation were from California, and asked them all to hold up their hands. After hundreds of hands went up, he asked the people who were not from California to hold up their hands. The only people who raised their hands were me and my wife, and we had to explain that we were from New Jersey, but were just visiting for the week-end.

But one nice thing about people from New Jersey is that when we move to a new state, we do not feel compelled to re-create the pathologies of New Jersey everywhere we go.

I agree completely. Seems as though the liberal elite have nothing better to do than to focus on taking others peoples' monies and then telling them what they can or cannot do.

FYI: Californication = Collectivephornication

One thing Californians have brought to the Northwest is much higher housing prices. The combination of the number of Californians and the equity they bring on exiting the insanely-priced California real estate market has had a huge impact.

In New Hampshire they call the same kind of refugee population Massholes for obvious reasons. Having wrecked the Bay State, they move on to New Hampshire, bringing the same statist attitudes that led to the conditions that made them flee Massachusetts.

I am a CA native that moved to Texas and believe me FRiend, any thing that even looks like the CA of running things I oppose.

I like being able to homeschool my kids without a ministry of indoctrination looking over my shoulder, buy firearms without a 15 day wait, and build whatever the hell I can afford to build on land I own.

Many of the people leaving CA do so to get away from that crap and have no interest in replicating the government they fled from. Those of us that have working brains saw how CA got turned into a socialist craphole over the last 30 year sand have no desire to replicate that anywhere.

Idaho is nice but it needs more regulation of...

Yes, California's loss is Idaho's loss as well. They are moving into our little rural town and about the first thing out of their mouths is, "gee, that's not the way we did it in California". They even complaign about people giving them the finger just because they have Ca plates on their Volvos...imagine!

And this is one of the core reasons the country is “moving left”, and why conservatism, per se, is in danger of becoming a shrinking force within American politics.

As the blue state refugees flock to the red states, we are seeing the once “solid red” states change to purple. Eventually, the purple may fade to blue.

Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to halt these changing colors, at least in some of the “border states” like Nevada.

I was one of the first to predict this migration, posting a series of articles in the old, long-gone “Issues” forum of America Online in 1993. Back then, I called my theory “The Coming Cultural White Flight”. And it has become exactly that.

Precisely. Thank God we have nothing but flat and cold. Lots of cold. I reckon they just wouldn't like North Dakota...

Agree... Living in Colorado, our legislature went from being conservative to being liberal. Also look at Arizona. Their governor is a piece of work. She is pushing for "big brother" type of technology on the roads such as photo radar.

I also recently lost my job and there is not much work for high tech here. Unfortunately, one of the places being considered is California. The company I work for, I was strongly told that I should consider work on the East Coast (DC, MD, VA) if I wanted to stay with them. Unless you are high management, relocation stinks. One of their requirements for relocation in order to get the money is you are required to sell your house.

It could be worse - what if the Hollywood people moved out into the rest of the country?

When I first moved to Nevada you could ride your horse anywhere. We use to enjoy leisurely rides into the Sierra Nevadas from the valley. After Californians moved in they created so many barriers to using the land that it was all but impossible to access the mountain. They bring their 'controlling issues' with them.

Even places like Denver Colorado have more crime per capita than Los Angeles, Ca. Much more, as a matter of fact, Denver has higher crime in 4 out of 7 of the major crime categories

"The refugees bring California with them wherever they go"

I moved from California a few years back and lived there for over a decade.

Over that time Colorado became almost indestinguishable from California as far as nanny-state-ism and general silliness was concerned.

So I moved back to California to be closer to my family and old friends.

California was already screwed up before I was born. But seeing a beautiful state like Colorado go the way of the Dodo bird was just too depressing to stomach.

I lived in Bellevue, WA in the late 80s and there WERE bumper stickers which read "STOP THE CALIFORNICATION OF WASHINGTON STATE".

Within a couple of years, property values were greatly increased (hey..., they were dirt cheap if you sold in California), driving civility and courtesy were greatly diminished, and, in general, the whole social atmosphere declined.

As people flee they bring their problems with them to roost in their new environs!

So true! They escape California but bring their liberal voting habits with them. They don't seem to get the connection between liberalism and what California has sadly become.
