WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan formally denounced on Thursday the Tennessee Republican Party's use of Barack Obama's full name in a recent news release questioning the Illinois senator's commitment to Israel.
"The RNC rejects these kinds of campaign tactics," Duncan said in a statement. "We believe this election needs to be about the critical issues confronting our nation."
The statement in question, which was released Monday, said the state party is joining a "growing chorus of Americans concerned about the future of the nation of Israel ... if Sen. Barack Hussein Obama is elected president of the United States."
It also included a photograph of Obama from a 2006 trip to Kenya, in which he is dressed in traditional attire.
The news release was sparked by recent praise for the senator from Nation of Islam Leader Louis Farrakhan, who has made derogatory remarks about Judaism and has indicated his support for Obama.
At Tuesday night's MSNBC debate, Obama said he denounced those comments and did not seek Farrakhan's support.
On Wednesday night, the party removed both the photo and the reference of "Hussein" from the statement after Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander called to express his belief that using them had become a distraction, Tennessee GOP Communications Director Bill Hobbs said.

Thanks!!!! Now I have to change my shorts, get a new keyboard and head to the emergency room to get my side sown up.
Good thing his name wans’t “Hussein Hussien Hussein”.
We would have to refer to him as “He who must not be named.”
Barack Obama was originally named Baraka. It is not an African name. It’s an Arabic word meaning blessed and comes directly from the Koran, Hussein is a Muslim name, which comes from the name of Ali’s son—Hussein Ibn Ali, the grandson of Mohammad
And while Obama may not identify as a Muslim, that’s not how the Arab and Muslim Streets see it. In Arab culture and under Islamic law, if your father is a Muslim, so are you. And once a Muslim, always a Muslim. You cannot go back. In Islamic eyes, Obama is certainly a Muslim. He may think he’s a Christian, but they do not.
That is a bunch of Bs.
I appreciate that, but a healthy political campaign also throws in some red meat and sly insinuations to keep people laughing and jazzed, and throwing in a few "Barack Hussein Obamas" is perfectly in keeping with that. McCain is spurning his supporters, and creating an unnecessary news story that concedes the point that Republican McCain backers are dirty bigots, for what is in reality ordinary politicking.
I’m sure the Muslims see him as a Dhimmi.
Anyone with a massive supply of testosterone pills needs to ship them to the leadership of the GOP. Severe shortage of gonads in the leadership. Gutless and worthless, IMO.
Maybe a more mellow graphic will soothe your pain.
No he is apostate !!
In Iran new draft penal code currently before the Iranian parliament, imposing the death penalty for apostasy. In the past, Iranian courts have handed down the death penalty in such cases, but have done so relying on Sharia law. If the draft is approved by parliament, the sentence will be formalized in the country’s criminal code.
Who is an apostate according to the legislation? Anyone in the world, born to a Muslim parent; also, any convert to Islam who leaves it. Only one parent needs to be a Muslim at the time of conception for Islam to own that child for life. Islam is Ummehist. Islam doesnt recognize nationalities and national boundaries.
You mean an issue like support for Israel, where Barack Hussein Obama is endorsed by Farrakhan, and his pastor and mentor supported Qaddafi?
You nailed it. This wimping out so early by the republicans means that they will do absolutely nothing to stop BHO. It wouldn't be "nice" and republicans are "racist" for even thinking about not supporting him.
The time to use the Farakhan endorsement or the Qadafy mentoring would be just after either F or Q made the news with some new flub or new anti-American spiel...or just prior to the November vote.
You don’t just attack...you time your attacks.
Not sure if he was talking about the photo or not.
I agree.
How is "Hussein" an attack?
John Fitzgerald Kennedy
Lyndon Baines Johnson
Richard Milhous Nixon
Full names which were constantly used and well-known by all Americans.
Barack Hussein Obama...that's his name. He pretends he is worthy to be president. Why can't Americans know his name like they knew all the above?
Is he ashamed that his father named his middle name after the grandson of Mohammed?
What about his FIRST name? "Barack" is an Arab name meaning "blessing".
>> Did you miss it?
No.
But McCain needs to be more than a single-issue campaigner or he will not win the race for POTUS.
So far, that’s the only issue he’s brought to the fore. If there are no others*, he is toast.
*you and I both know there are others — does McCain have the spine and skill to press them?
I think it's more a matter of connecting him with Saddam Hussein... but even if not, I don't see the connection between "racial heritage" and "cultural heritage" here. 'Hussein' is pretty much a Muslim name. Most Muslims are not black, and most blacks are not Muslim, so I don't get the point. Sure, his father was both, but then, his father is a person, not a race... and a comment directed specifically at his father (however cheap or unfair) would be no more "racist" than Ann Richards talking about GHWB being born with a silver foot in his mouth.
Out of "respect" for his Islamic family heritage I shall henceforth refer to him only as "Barak Hussein Obama."
Yeah! Don’t forget William Jefferson Clinton!
Outstanding!
