A tornado has been reported in downtown Atlanta...some injuries.

Apparently there was a fire in the building a while ago - don’t remember how long ago they said it was though - recent enough for them to say they’ve had “recent” bad luck there.

A shame the building has collapsed — for the historical value, as well as for all the people who have now lost their belongings... Prayers there are no injuries there.

I wonder if the stacks were left standing after it was turned into lofts. Surely them falling on the building would cause a collapse.

Boy, you sure are nice. Since you are so observant, did you read my post below where I learned people were injured and my local news hadn’t reported that yet? Hmmm, maybe not. Maybe you were too busy being a smarta&&.

Yeah, we saw it about a mile away and hoped we were safe. We were told to go back to work and when I saw the restaurant sign fly by me ON THE THIRD FLOOR I knew it had made it. Nothing flies by the third floor except pigeons! But it did hit the corner of our block. I can’t imagine a direct hit.

Since my parents lived in Roswell, I know that area rather well.

Tornado? OR DID JET STREAM CAUSE TORNADIC WINDS IN ATLANTA?

The Stacks Lofts are renovated versions of the poorly rated Fulton Cotton Mill Lofts, which are currently in their 2nd phase of conversion. So far they’ve done two buildings that used to be used only for rental, and have basically performed an extreme facelift in order to have them sold rather than rented. All the major complaints I’ve heard about Fulton (the walls are too thin, weird tenants, etc) are basically fixed here, as the walls have been reinforced with insulation to prevent noise leakage (I haven’t heard so much as a peep out of my neighbors yet) and the fact that these are sold automatically ups the kind of people that are around.

The general ambience of the outdoors of the Stacks sold me on it immediately. Located in the remains of a huge Cotton Mill that burned several years back, before renovation, it kind of looks like you’re on the set of A Clockwork Orange, or in Warsaw. The grounds are well kept in the midst of strange urban decay: a beautiful decay rather than just ruin.

Another problem with Fulton has been parking, which is currently being fixed, as they are in the final stages of a new two-tier parking deck. By summer, there should be parking abound.

The units themselves are gorgeous. Exposed and weather brick mixed with high wood ceilings and high quality appliances. They range from studios to two bed two bath, some with lofts. Each is unique.

So far, of all the places I’ve lived both downtown and outlying Atlanta, the Stacks is already the most peaceful and rewarding.

Thanks much for the update... that really stinks. Even if it doesn’t hit Atlanta one hopes it isn’t conducive to another tornado. Even the rain after damage isn’t good for rescue, clean-up efforts and such.

They should have took the stacks down. I bet we find out that the stacks collapsed on the building.



also from the pictures I am seeing there was a lot of decay on the buildings (mortar and bricks) and they left it that way to give the place that old feeling.

Many years ago we had a old 5+ story factory (Welch Baby Carriage Factory) in St. Louis that had a full wall collapse (all 5+ stories). Instead of tearing the building down they rebuilt the wall and turned it into lofts. There is no way I would ever live there.

My son just came back from riding his bike through downtown Atlanta. Broken glass and debris for blocks and blocks. But clean-up has already begun.
