Saying No to the Nanny State (FIRST THEY CAME FOR THE SMOKERS AND I DID NOT SPEAK OR OBJECT.....)
Intelectual Conservative ^ | March 13, 2008 | Lisa Fabrizio

Liberals get really testy when some folks, devout Christians for example, choose to live their lives under God’s laws; but have no compunction in compelling others to live under the tender mercies of the Nanny State where they make the rules.

Five years ago, when the smoking ban in restaurants first went into effect in my home state of Connecticut, I told a few folks who were happy about it, that it was only a matter of time before the government came after their private property rights or other issues that were near and dear to their hearts. Most people scoffed at my defense of the restaurant owners’ property rights and one fellow actually said, “"The problem with you people is that all you care about is the Constitution."

You should have threatened to sue the bitch if she continued to harass you about your truck.

Always stand up to the fascists and the fascist wanna-be’s.

There is a Senate Bill 1200 introduced in Missouri (and several other states almost word for word, -collusion anyone???)

that makes it illegal to possess ammunition after Jan 1st, 2011, that has not been somehow stamped with an ID number, or sell ammo after Jan 1, 2009 that is not ID stamped.
Also provided for record keeping of purchaser name, address, Social Security # etc.
Provides a 1/2 cent tax per bullet to finance the enforcement and administrative costs.
Allegedly this crock of BS is supposed to help police keep track of firearms incidents, and trace back to the sale of the ammo.

Talk about nanny state! We are only barely scratching the surface of what the nanny state is trying to do in the name of “protection” racketeering sanctioned by our elected “friends”.

"No, first they came for pot and other drugs, and you not only didn’t object, you supported them vociferously because you agreed it was “bad for you.” Now that they have come for the smokers, trans fats, and candy you have no cause to object because you helped establish the precedent. Pity."

Not I, friend.

While a simple Conservative and not a libertarian (nor an indulger in mind-altering substances) I have taken a position that the War On Drugs has been a complete waste and a failure.

As for suggestions as to a remedy or alternative, I readily admit I don't have a substantive "clue."

For all the billions of dollars wasted on trying to stamp out illicit drugs, the problem has not and won’t go away.
It is all about money. Government giving money to local PD’s for drug enforcement.
And the government can’t collect taxes on product sales they do not sanction. Even your garage sale could be held as illegal because sales tax is not being collected.

The great lengths that government is going through repress the citizen is staggering. Some repression is directed by the elected, but a whole lot more repression is directed by the unelected and unaccountable cabinet underlings.

Does a JD trump an MBA?--which is my claim to fame, though I rarely admit it.

As an aside, I went back to school to get a BA in my mid 30's and had always thought of College Grads as a "cut above" and College Professors as something to be revered and Omnipotent.

Learned quickly that ANYONE who wants to invest the time and make a little effort (and qualifies for student assistance) can get a degree.

Moreover, as to College Profs, it soon became evident that there is such an animal as an "Educated Idiot"--LOTS of them.

If I was "coming down" on anything, it was "intellectualism."

My other favorite target is lawyers.

Thank you for posting, and bump to the top!

Though lurking here for years, am not familiar with "pings." or "bumps"

Also, if it means what I think it does, do you--or anyone reading this--know that lady from Maine who regularly posts about smoking issues (her screen name escapes me) and could somehow alert her as I am certain she enjoy getting in on this fray?

Regarding spelling......... FR should be a place where we feel comfortable, relaxed and safe from spelling nannies. SO what we misspell the occasional word or use poor grammar?

Yes, I know that dear lady, and love her very much. SheLion, I hope you enjoy the post, pinging you at OP’s request.

Bump to the top is usually written as “bttt” or “btt” and it gets the article on the “Latest Posts” page where people can see the title.

Thank you again.

“Ping” means to put a poster’s name in the “To” area at the top of the post. Then they will get a notice that there are new posts to that poster.

Just like you got a ping, from me, for this post. Some people have lists of posters who are interested in a particular topic. If you want to ping the smoker’s list, you can ping SheLion and make that request in a post.

We have decised to spend our $600.00 economic stimulus check on more firearms and ammo.
If there is any industry that needs our support, firearms and ammo will equally be supportive of our Constitutional Rights and Freedoms.
