The Muslim perspective is that there is no such thing as a "former Muslim". He is an apostate Muslim. Islamic law demands the death penalty for that offense.

Hmmm. This would explain his affinity for Farrakhan. It also squares with the fact that whatever Wright is preaching, it's not Christianity. Add another possible former Muslim to the picture and things get very interesting indeed.

Wright's "church" could be taqiyaa (Nation of Islam flavor) on a commercial scale (and typical white people would never suspect a thing).

These people must be Muslims operating under a false “Christian” conversion in order to come into power under the radar.

I've also seen posts here on FR in reference to the "church's" website...According to their own web site (since deleted IIRC) , some of their members are MOSLEM. Now, why would moslems regularly attend a Christian church, unless....

No, I don't have a link. I saw an article on that here a few days ago (say, 03/17-03/25) and some posts that referred to it, but I didn't save the link, and I've since deleted my browsing history. If you're interested, maybe someone here will post a link.

Muslim congressman speaks at symposium

April 7, 2008

By Michael Drakulich, Staff Writer

The first Muslim elected to U.S. Congress shared some of his experiences as an elected official with those who hope to follow in his footsteps one day.

Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) was keynote speaker at the Muslim Youth Leadership Symposium, hosted by the Chicago office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

The symposium was held at the Mosque Foundation Community Center, 7260 W. 93rd St., in Bridgeview.

The two-day event brought together Muslim high school students from the area to inspire them to use their faith values toward constructive citizenship, benefiting their communities and country.

Ellison told the 100 or so students in the audience being in a position of leadership means not only recognizing problems, but finding the solutions to them. And he said it would be up to them to build cultural understanding.

He encouraged students to look within themselves and embrace the challenges they face as Muslims, even if those challenges seem unfair.

“You’ve been given a gift, an opportunity to face adversity with courage, with patience, with the assistance of prayer. And to come out on the other side of it more successful than you were before. Find out about things about yourself you didn’t know before,” he said.

Ellison told of the adversity he’s faced as a Muslim such as during his run for Congress when Robert Fine, brother of his opponent Alan Fine, called him a terrorist.

During such trying times, he received support from his family and friends during the campaign. He said it was his faith that helped carry him.

He said teachings in the Koran could help the racial divide in America. And he encouraged students to embrace and answer questions about their faith, even if those questions seem repetitive.

“Let’s use what we have, what our faith is all about, to help America get over the barrier of racial division and false barriers based on color,” he said.

Ellison went on to say if more people knew of what Islam had to teach, the controversy created by statements from presidential candidate Barack Obama’s former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, might not have occurred.

Ellison took questions from the audience. At one point, he was asked whether Republican presidential candidate John McCain should be forgiven for saying he would never vote for a Muslim presidential candidate.

He reiterated Islam’s teaching of mercy.

“That’s what it means to be Muslim. To want the best for everyone, even if they want to chop you up into little pieces,” he said.

What a load of BS from another Obama politician

Makes sense. Wright’s rants are virtually indistinghuisable from those of Muslim black nationalists. A Christian, he isn’t. ...and neither is B-HO.

I'm pretty sure Religion "as we know it" has nothing to do with any of these characters. A Church is just a building to meet at and talk grievances against people they perceive are holding them back.

Christian, Muslim, Black Muslim, whatever it takes.

Alinsky's contribution to community organizing was to create a set of rules, a clear-eyed and systemic approach that ordinary citizens can use to gain public power.

I would suggest that Conservatives need to learn how to gain public power. It is something that is clearly lacking in our mindset. I'm not all that familiar with Saul Alinsky; I know that Hillary Clinton was a devotee of his. And now we find out Obama was. Whatever. We need to rip a page out of their playbook (maybe even the whole book) and read it, study it, learn it, and apply it. Why are Conservatives so LAZY??? No wonder the Liberals are rolling over us, and changing our society daily. They're changing our society, and we're letting them. This forum is good for an exchange of ideas. But I'm coming to the conclusion that we're just talking amongst ourselves and not DOING anything. We're not out in the real word WHERE IT COUNTS. The Libs are organized, they've got playbooks, they've got power. What do we have?

# Dr. Wright is a student of the history of religions. His master’s degree from the University of Chicago is in that discipline and his area of concentration as an historian of religions was Islam in West Africa. While a student at the University of Chicago (U of C) he studied with the esteemed Islamic professor, Dr. Fazlur Rahman.

# Dr. Wright’s Master’s thesis at the Divinity School of the U of C was the Tijaniyya among the Bambara, the Fulbe and the Tuckolour. The Tijaniyya was a 19th Century Sufi movement (a sect of Sufism) which swept into West Africa during the period of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade.

I would say his “preachings” are probably not much different than you would find in a Madrassa in Pakistan.

>>>Wright is a "former Muslim"?!<<<

I read someplace that Rev. Wright majored in "Muslim Studies" at Howard.

I'll see if I can find it in my extensive O'bama file.
