Will the Right Sit It Out?

If John McCain wins the presidency, his comeback -- after the bankrupt debacle his campaign had become in the summer of 2007 with his backing of the amnesty bill -- will be the stuff of legend.

And as nominee, he is entitled to conduct his own campaign and be cut slack by a party whose brand name is now Enron.

That said, McCain seems to have decided to win by love-bombing the Big Media and putting miles between himself and the base.

Consider his "Forgotten Places" tour of last week.

It began in Selma, Ala., where McCain went to Edmund Pettis Bridge to hail John Lewis and the marchers night-sticked and hosed down by the Alabama State Troopers on the Montgomery march for voting rights.

Now that was a seminal movement in the fight for civil rights.

But this is not 1965. Today, John Lewis is a big dog in the "No-Whites-Need-Apply!" Black Caucus. The Rev. Jeremiah Wright is sermonizing White America. The Rev. Al Sharpton is trying to shut down the Big Apple. And the fight for equal rights is being led by Ward Connerly.

A vote for McCain will mean he’ll appoint Supreme Court judges who won’t force public schools to spend more money on English classes for illegal aliens? That would make McCain a hypocrite, LOL.

“Why is it that McCain gets all the blame for your problems in your neighborhood?”

That’s a very easy answer. He is FOR amnesty for illegals.

“This country cannot withstand 8yr of socialist themed POTUS!”

You’re exactly right! That is exactly why I can’t possibly vote for McCain because he is a socialist.

Well, let’s say your right and McCain is actually for amnesty for illegals. Is he the person responsible for all those illegals being here in the first place? Did he hold open the door for them? Your arguing about something that has not yet happened. I’m trying to have a discussion about what is, not what may be. As things stand, my question has not yet been answered.

Uncalled for BS. You sound like the RNC's Rev. Wright.

Wow! Your post sure hit a nerve here on Free Republic. I’ve never seen such vitriol aimed at consevatives by other conservatives. The pending nomination of John McCain has been the most devisive and disastrous I can remember for Republicans. I expect his Presidency (if he is elected) will be the same. While he will support the war and might name good Supreme Court justices (on this issue even non-RINO Republicans have a mixed record) his/Kennedy’s fraudulent immigration bill will almost certainly assure Democratic victories in the future. We will surrender our future as Republicans to avoid surrendering on the war.

All I can hope is that McCain makes some horrible mistake (a public temper tantrum perhaps) before he is nominated and we can nominate a real conservative (Hunter comes to mind, although I am unimpressed with his cutting and running
when the going got tough in the primaries).

So all you who think McCain is just ducky and don’t seem to care about that ‘immigration thing’ can flame me now. I don’t care anymore.

Most of the ratings for McCain are high prior to his losing the election to W. If you look at his votes since then his rating is not so hot. Besides I do not trust him and never will.

Juan McCain broke the sacred trust. For that he can NEVER be forgiven:

Lt. Colonel Hal Moore: I can't promise you that I will bring you all home alive. But this I swear, before you and before Almighty God, that when we go into battle, I will be the first to set foot on the field, and I will be the last to step off, and I will leave no one behind. Dead or alive, we will all come home together. So help me, God.

You may find the answer you seek in a copy/paste of SoConPubbie’s post on another thread:

“So, while McCain is certainly not everything I wished he was and there are several problem areas that he has failed us on. The fact is, he is head and shoulders above ANYTHING the democrats have to offer.

“Here is McCain’s Recent History over the last 7 years:

1. Gang of Fourteen (Kept some of President Bush’s best judges from being presented for a vote)
2. McCain-Fiengold (Assault on Free Speech and Pro-Life groups and Gun-rights groups)
3. McCain-Kennedy (Amnesty for criminal Illegal Aliens)
4. McCain-Lieberman (50 cents a gallon tax)
5. Total support for global warming scam, including carbo cap and trade system.
6. Support for embryonic stem cell research (Murder of unborn babies).
7. Leaked top-secret information concerning CIA prisons in Europe
8. Wants to close Gitmo and give Terrorists access to our legal system.
9. F grade from Gun-Owners of America.
10. C- grade from NRA.
11. 60% score from American Conservative Union in 2006
12. Wants to bail out sub-prime losers (many of which are either illegal aliens or lied on thier applications) with US tax money.
13. Voted against President Bush’s tax cuts (called them tax-cuts for the rich)
14. Flirted with the idea of crossing over to the Dems in 2004.

Now you be the judge as to whether or not his principles match up enough with your principles and whether or not you can vote for him!

What you might want to add into your calculation is if you are willing to destroy the conservative nature of the GOP, the GOP itself, and more than likely, hasten the destruction of our nation.

There are two probably scenarios that will play out during the next four years:

1. A democrat is elected President and the GOP in both the House and Senate finally find their backbone and fight all things socialist that the Democrats would like to push through congress. This will guarantee a stalemate and the success of the agenda of the Left will be severly limited.

2. Our RINO McCain is elected and the benefit, as perceived by our congressmen/congresswomen, of standing up against socialist measures will be severely diminished as John McCain will be pushing most of the same socialist/liberal agenda including Global Warming (Kyoto II), Cap and Trade system, Illegal Alien Amnesty, some form of socialized health care where you and I are footing the bill for others, etc.

Just by McCain granting Amnesty, the GOP will be relegated to minority status for decades to come. The impact will be two-fold: first, 20-30 million+ illegal aliens who vote 70% for Democrats will be immediately dumped into the American Electorate thereby erasing the thin margins between Democrat and Republican voters. Secondly, by ignoring the strongly held principles of the base of the GOP, conservatives, he will have driven millions of conservatives from the party and also dis-engaged millions more.”

SoCon, your post is becoming very popular. :-)

LOL! Don't worry, you''l be in good company. BTW, ease up on DH. He dropped out because of lack of funding and even worse, a lack of support from the republican party he has faithfully served his entire political career. I guess they couldn't stomach his conservatism but they could go with a liberal like McCain who pisses on the republican party with regularity. That speaks volumes about the GOP.

1. Gang of Fourteen (Kept some of President Bush’s best judges from being presented for a vote)

From my own readings of this issue, it was due to the influence of the "Gang of 14" that President Bush's nominees for federal judgeships came to a vote, not the other way around. The gang of 14 came together for the purpose of demanding that the appointments come before the judiciary committee for an up or down vote instead of those appointments being sidelined. This is according to the information I read on this issue. So, what was the problem here? I thought conservatives would want Bush's appointments to be voted on, and not held up in committee?

As for numbers 2 through 12, and 14, I'll need to spend some time in researching all the facts for each one. It's amazing that with item 13 you have conveniently left out the rest of the story. John McCain was not opposed to the tax cuts. He was opposed to tax cuts without corresponding spending cuts. That is a completely different argument than just painting his as being against tax cuts.

I refuse to engage in knee-jerk reactionary commentary without the full picture in front of me. That is the tactic the left loves to use, and does not serve conservatives well. When all the information is not presented in an argument, and then the rest of the story comes to light to paint a different picture it gives the appearence there is dishonesty being perpetrated for political reasons. Dims excell at this tactic. I'm appalled that conservatives use it too.

You might think it would be that way, wouldn't you (and others)? But, fortunately, another's rights aren't dictated by you. They are enumerated in the US Constitution. What you (and others) said is essentially the same thing as calling someone who chooses to not vote for a fraud unpatriotic and his 'rights' should be infringed.

People here who don't choose to prolong this useless Don Quixote maneuver (still trying to work with the 'Republican Party') don't need to be castigated for their beliefs and chided with claims of "for the soldiers, our progeny, etc." Go ask a wife whose been beaten over and over and see how much longer she's willing to take it for the sake of the children.

Honestly, I'm not trying to lay the blame on you about this and I don't really want to piss you off or put you down, nor do I think what you said in and of itself is reprehensible, but taken collectively with what else has been said here and other threads about us holdouts, it really does add up to something. ...I'm just really sick of this crap.

Perhaps, but he's no worse in that sense than McCain stammering, backpeddling and apologizing to liberals at every turn in front of the camera. The fact is that the pubbies eschewed him for not being sensitive enough to hispanics (code for illegals) and bucking shamnesty. He was simply bypassed to die on the vine.

I will vote for the most conservative candidate (including all parties), and that likely won’t be McCain.
